  1. It will never happen, but I want the Twins to go all in this year (and maybe 2 years after that). Love the idea of trading for Bumgarner AND Syndergaard. Our division is down-the time to go for it is now! Let's say we gave up a combo of Kiriloff, Graterol, Cave, Gonsalves, Romero and a couple prospects outside of the top 20. How would you like a rotation of: 1) Syndergaard 2) Bumgarner 3) Berrios 4) Gibson 5) Pineda/Odorizzi This is a rotation that gives you a chance to win every night...no matter who is in our lineup. * This is absolutely a rare year where multiple aces are available at the same time...all while we have the prospects to go get them **rambling on here...but if we managed to get to the playoffs, those top 3 would look mighty nice in any playoff series.
  2. Okay then you have to take into consideration that we might have saved money by signing Cron as well...instead of Santana/Cruz/whoever else. Austin's splits against lefties are NO WHERE NEAR Cron's! (nor is Austin a proven MLB player) Kepler is a mystery replacement at 1B. Sano is a mystery replacement at 1B. Astudillo over Cron? You want a 5' 9" (or shorter) 1B? Love the guy but do not want him playing over there. Also, if $5 million makes or breaks a "big" signing, that means it was never going to happen any way. If they want Miller at 12...if Miller is willing to sign with us for 12, this $5 million will not cause it not to happen. I just can't see them saying, "if we didn't sign Cron for 5, we would be willing to sign Miller for 12." Just do not see it. Obviously none of us know for sure. But this seems highly unlikely to me.
  3. Not sure how...how are you connecting the two? just saw your last post. nevermind. 1 year and 5 million seems like a good gamble. You guys are acting like it's a crippling move. It literally does not effect any other FA signing we make.
  4. I don't like either one of those guys for the money they are going to make. I would rather: 1) Sell the farm for 3 cheap years of Noah 2) Sign Garrett Richards to a Pineda-like deal 3) Sign Bucholz to a cheap 1 or 2 year deal 4) Sign Britton
  5. Option A DH only. 140 games. Option B split DH/1B. 140 games. Average defense. Option C split DH/1B. 140 games. Below average defense.
  6. .255 34 bombs 105 rbi 18 million .250 28 bombs 80 rbi 5 million .230 25 bombs 70 rbi 550k Who do you choose? To each their own...
  7. At age 28, Cron hit .307 with .929 ops against lefties. For a good team. Most of you are saying Austin did pretty much the same thing...or has potential to do the same thing without spending $5 million. I'll take my chances on Cron far more than Austin. What has Austin done to make you guys think he is as good as Cron?
  8. Austin: AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB HBP SO SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS vs. Left 89 9 21 3 0 8 20 9 1 32 1 1 .236 .307 .539 .846 vs. Right 155 25 35 7 0 9 27 10 1 63 0 1 .226 .275 .445 .720 Cron: AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB HBP SO SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS vs. Left 150 24 46 11 1 8 21 14 4 47 0 1 .307 .376 .553 .929 vs. Right 351 44 81 17 0 22 53 23 13 98 1 1 .231 .300 .467 .767 I like what Cron did against lefties last year. Might have been a nice, cheap upgrade. (whoops-sorry for the hard-to-read stats)
  9. I heard Boston was pretty good last year...and also the Yankees. TB ended up still going 90-72 (which is pretty damn impressive). They are they definition of a team...no major components but a lot of solid players. Cron was one of them, as he contributed in 140 games. For those of you upset about the Cron/Austin redundancy, I'm guessing this means Austin is gone or AAA depth, and we look for a left handed bat to platoon. Whether that bat is Santana, Marwin Gonzalez, or someone else, I really do think they will add someone of relevance. Cron is an upgrade over Austin, if used properly-think that is what this is. For $5 million, worth a shot, especially if they land a bigger fish to work with him.
  10. Donaldson 1 year/23 million to Braves. IF he stays healthy, great deal and they are going to be fun to watch!
  11. Who do you think the top 5 FA players will go to and why? (let's just the say the top 5 are Harper, Machado, Kimbrel, Corbin & Keuchel) Mine: Harper goes to SF. They are dying for some offense and someone who can supplement Posey. Also, could help Bad Bum re-sign. Who better than Harper to hit souvenirs into McCovey Cove? 8 years/300 million Machado stays in LA. Dodgers promise to keep him at SS and move Seager to 3B. Turner moves to 2nd...but those 3, along with Chris Taylor, can move all over the field. Dodgers all in for Kershaw's last years. He will be young enough to sign one last major deal after this deal is up. 5 years/200 million Kimbrel stays with Boston. This team is so good, and will be in "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" mode. More annual $ to keep him less years. Becomes the highest paid closer in those terms. 3 years/60 million Philly misses out on Harper and Machado and panics. They overspend on Corbin, thinking a rotation of Nola, Arrieta, Corbin, etc. will make up for it. 6 years/150 million Keuchel switches leagues and joins a rotation of deGrom/Syndergaard and Wheeler. One last chance before the Mets blow things up. 3 years/75 million Who goes where??
  12. Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Fun discussions about Goldy and Thor-both are unlikely, but as James Q. Carey once said, "So you're saying there's a chance!" Having an IPA and doing some pondering-looking at our division, is now the time to go all-in, even if we might not have a team perfectly ready to do so? Cleveland-maybe a bit weaker now. Will be without Brantley (although they will probably sign a FA OF). Do they trade one of their aces? Does their bullpen get weaker, and pitching staff in general? KC-rebuilding for a year or two. Chi-rebuilding for a year or two. Det-awful. That being said, would you empty our assets to get BOTH Goldy and Thor, if we are able to extend Goldy? Let's say it takes this combination of players to get both...would you do it? Sano, Kiriloff, Lewis, Rooker, Gordon, Gonsalves and Romero. Let's say we sign Daniel Murphy, Cruz and Marwin Gonzalez in FA (I know, seems a bit much, but again, we are going all in for a 3 year window-3 year/40 million contracts for Marwin and Murphy, and 1 year/18 million deal for Cruz). Here's a sample lineup: Buxton CF Murphy 2B Goldy 1B Rosario LF Cruz DH Kepler RF Marwin 3B Garver/Castro C Polanco SS
  13. Any 3 of our prospects outside of the top 3. Then try to extend 5/150.
  14. I'm going to half to agree with Nick on most of this. 1) the price to pay to get (an injury prone) Paxson was too high 2) Sheffield way better prospect than Gonsalves (and probably even Graterol) 3) The Padres made a huge mistake in trading away Turner (who was MLB ready when they traded him) That being said, I agree with most of the rest of you that we do need to start making some trades and not worrying about holding onto our precious prospects. I've been going on forever how I would give up Gordon/Gonsalves/Romero/Kepler for Realmuto and would give up anything to get Syndergaard. Just didn't feel the heartbreak or frustration most of you did by not getting Paxson.
  15. Would have been nice to get Paxson...but I understand why we didn't. Pretty injury prone guy to give up Kiriloff or Lewis, which is probably what it was going to take. If you're going to trade those guys-better be for Syndergaard. Wonder if Sea firesale happens and if we have any interest in Gordon. *Not saying Syndergaard has been 100% healthy either, but he's much younger.
  16. Agreed-they need bats. I'm waiting for them to empty out their farm system to trade for Trout, if he's willing to sign an extension (which might be $400 million).
  17. Can you give more info on Harper please? I know nothing about him and his K/BB ratio is pretty darn good!
  18. Arizona is in a really interesting situation. Do they go all in or completely start over? Do they trade Goldschmidt/Greinke/Ray? Resign Corbin? If they tear it down, things are going to get very interesting. I like the Greinke idea...if they are willing to take B and C list prospects (10-20 range maybe?).
  19. Clay Buchholz and Garrett Richards please. Both are affordable. Clay can pitch out of the pen or start...had a quiet great year last year. Richards can be our Pineda signing of last year. Pitching is at a premium right now-the top 15 guys are going to cost quite a bit. *Britton is not going to be a bargain, but signing two affordable guys like Buchholz and Richards will allow us to spend a little extra on him.
  20. I would LOVE to sign Donaldson to a 1 year deal...whatever $ it takes. I just see someone taking a chance on a 3 year deal for him, which I would not.
  21. I don't see this being an issue. Players, at any level, realize very quickly if their coaches know what they are talking about or not.
  22. I'm a "no" on Santana..unless they eat a lot of the contract, which they probably will not. I would rather trade Kepler and sign Brantley...high OBP and BA.
  23. Both Kris Bryant and James Paxton are on the trade market...Bryant under club control for 3 years and Paxton 2. Obviously the price will be high. Who would you rather trade for between these two and Realmuto? Would you empty out the system to trade for 2 of them?
  24. Looks like we've been linked to J A Happ, according to mlb.com. Would be a nice signing...hoping it means that we trade some of our young pitching/Kepler for Realmuto (who has been linked to the Braves).
  25. So you're saying the Portland Weedpatch or Portland Cannabis baseball teams will never exist? All of the distributors can buy the suites...a lot of happy people at those games.
