  1. Marwin covers everywhere. But from what I've seen, he's a better IF than OF... basically we are knit picking. comes down to...do you like Schoop or Listerine more? Both work.
  2. Ordered a Smeltzer tee shirt and it arrived today. Just sayin.
  3. I get it, and good point, but it is still more useful than having 3 UTIL guys or 2 pinch runners (especially with Garver and Castro both coming off of injuries). I'm choosing Arraez over Ehire. Think he has done some good things for us and supplied some good depth. Just think his time is over with us.
  4. I know there was a big thread on this, but it is an interesting topic. Why are you choosing Ehire over Luis? You don't think Luis can get enough ABs? Afraid of losing an insurance policy if Arraez goes cold (in which case, isn't that Gonzalez?)?
  5. A lot of valid points made throughout this debate. I trust the FO to make the right moves, whichever moves they make. Here's my take...time for Ehire to go. He is never going to be more than an average utility guy. In many cases, he would be valuable. I'm just not seeing it any more. Arraez can get groomed into playing 2B and/or UTIL next year. He can occasionally spell other IF spots (maybe 1 game a week at 2B/SS/3B). Having Gonzalez seems to afford them the opportunity to prepare Arraez vs. being cautious and keeping Ehire. As long as Arraez plays 3-4 times a week, he's getting great exposure and experience. (to add onto this, Astudillo staying on as catcher #3 and Util seems more valuable than Ehire)
  6. If Syndergaard and Scherzer are both "available" come the trade deadline, it would be an interesting debate in regards to which direction to go. What would you do if this is what we would give up for both? A: Syndergaard FA in 2022. Young, cheap. Chance of extending if all goes well. We give up Lewis, Graterol, Gordon. B: Scherzer FA in 2022. 34, but still one of the best in the game. VERY expensive. We give up: Graterol, Rortvedt and Gordon. Washington eats 1/3 of his contract.
  7. I believe if we hit 3 bombs tonight we tie the record for most homeruns through 50 games (1999 Seattle?).
  8. Not saying my deal would work by any means, but again, who would you trade for 1/2 year of Smith? Doolittle has a team option for next year, so he is going to be a bit more expensive. But he is another guy I would love to add.
  9. Just curious...who would you give up for 1/2 year of Will Smith?
  10. You're probably right about Panik and Crawford. Middle infielders used to be a lot more sought after. There are so many rising stars and so much depth around the league at these positions that these guys might not be worth much. Good point. Would you offer 2-3 top 10 prospects in a package to get Bumgarner and Smith/Gott?
  11. Just to add to this: What if Cle is 10+ games back of us and the wild card spots at the trade deadline (just a hypothetical, I know I'm getting ahead of myself a bit)? Do they get hauls for Kluber and Bauer and build around Clevinger and Bieber? Or do they go all out the next 2 years?
  12. This is kind of what I was thinking. Good take on the rest.
  13. I found it interesting during one of the last games that the announcers were talking about Rocco's respect for Ehire and how he thought he would make an excellent coach one day. To me, that means Ehire is out the door, and Rocco is playing politics to ease the move.
  14. (1-Just a conversation piece. I am at work lol) 2) Fair take. Will be interesting to see which or any of the aces they unload as well. 3) Probably a bit light-we'd have to include a Nick Gordon-ish type prospect as well. Smith is in the last year of his contract. Ehire and Cave would be place holders. They need to trade away everyone and get as many prospects back as possible. Guess the point was we get 2 relievers without giving up our top guys. If we have to give up anything else than what I mentioned, why not just give up the draft pick and sign Kimbrel?
  15. I like the "3 Things" bit in the game thread introductions-so I am going to borrow it and use it for its own topic. 1) With starters going less innings these days, should a quality start be 5 innings and 2 earned runs or less instead of 6 and 3? 2) Will the Cleveland Indians be sellers at the deadline? (Talk about a big decision for that team-which direction would you go if you were them?) 3) The Twins will have some pieces to move around, as many of you have eluded to. Here's my first deal: Trade Ehire back to the Giants, along with Cave, Rooker and Jay for Will Smith and Trevor Gott. (This allows them to trade Crawford and/or Panik for more prospects. They need to blow it up and start over.)
  16. I'm hearing that he has zero power from a lot of people...but he just missed a double down the left field line that was hit well on one of his first ABs and doubled to the gap for his first hit. He's young enough where he will still get a bit stronger. If he is a high OB% guy that hits .290 with 5-10 HRs and 40 doubles, he might be hard to keep off the field. GREAT problem to have with our logjam of middle infielders. Agree with everyone in that we probably make a move or two at some point for some pitching.
  17. I think so. He said he's feelin stronger every day. (My jokes are corny, but it's hard to say I'm sorry)
  18. For those of you saying we should wait until we don't give up a draft pick for Kimbrel-I look at it the opposite way. We need to bite the bullet and give up our draft pick. It is what would separate us from the rest of the field right now (at least, supposedly). We wait, he signs with someone else. This might be a good way to sell to Kimbrel how bad we want him on our squad...he might say "wow, they are the only team that is willing to give up a draft pick for me. And they have the best record in baseball (something he obviously could not say at the beginning of the year). 2 years 25 mil. lose the pick. Go get the elite closer. (10 this year, 15 for next)
  19. We need to bring Morin. As in, more relievers in.
  20. My mind must be scrambled. When I first read his name, I saw "Lou Ferrigno."
  21. Twins win 5-2. Vlad Jr. hits his first HR.
  22. I'd be more than okay trading Graterol for a different pitcher. I just don't think Stroman is a guy that gets it done in the playoffs vs the powerhouse teams. Help you get there? Yes. Totally get your points though.
  23. I am a "Romero needs to be a starter" guy. Just think he has a starter's mentality. He can still be a #2 or #3 but whether he receives another shot is another question.
  24. Your overall statement is more than likely accurate. This is just a case where I like Graterol more than Stroman. A year and a half of Stroman doesn't do it for me. I'd rather roll the dice on Graterol, but I am definitely a gambling man.
  25. Not sure I would give up Graterol for him. Larnach yes.
