  1. Paying him 2 million this year to be in the bullpen in September, as many of you have mentioned. Paying him 8 million in 2019. If he stays healthy the entire year and has a decent year, completely worth the money. What will a #3/#4 starter cost in 2 years? I'm guessing more than 8.
  2. The only way I want to trade Dozier to the Mets is if we make a package for DeGrom. Dozier/Gonsalves/Gordon. But not going to happen.
  3. I was actually going to say the same-maybe even the Mariners bring back Ichiro for another part time year to help the transition.
  4. I would agree with you-if Kintzler had been a proven closer for at least a few years or if he was a bit younger. I think the move was in between buying and selling. We had other replacement options in our bullpen. Obviously it worked out ok...other guys had a chance to prove themselves in expanded roles and we got prospects, while making the playoffs. Hard to argue with any of that-and being able to sign him (Kintzler) back right now is just icing on the cake.
  5. I constantly went back and forth with Garver when I saw him in action. I would go from, "I don't think this guy can hit up here well enough," to, "man, this guy has such easy power to right field." I hope he at least gets a fair shot...but who else is going to take away his ABs besides Castro? Any other catchers on the rise or radar in FA? Do Wade's numbers and size/athleticism remind anyone else of Michael Brantley? Or am I way off here? Anyone know what he looked like in the minors?
  6. What makes you say he is a number 2 pitcher and not an ace? He might not be a top 10 pitcher in the game (although pretty damn close), but I'd say he's still an ace...
  7. Let's get a team going in Hawaii. Tell me you wouldn't want to see your team play the Hawaii Hoola Hoopers. Just kidding but seriously. Have the Carolinas ever been considered? Bad spot or good spot?
  8. I didn't get much sleep last night. Too excited. Read this thread and fell asleep for a short nap. Had a dream where I was on a roller coaster with Tom Petty and a goat (from a Zombie Zoo). We were drinking good bourbon. The Twin's bats were on fire and we free fell into Cleveland.
  9. Royce Lewis. 3rd base. You can all say he is the best athlete on the field. But who is he going to replace?
  10. Definitely a tough spot to be in as a pitcher. He probably should have stepped off the rubber and talked to his infield and catcher...but I guess sometimes you just decide to roll with your coaches decision.
  11. Sorry, should have phrased that differently. If he shows he can be good/trustworthy late in games, another team may want to add him as a bullpen piece.
  12. My guess is they want the "vet" out there right now in the 9th. Also, if he shows he can close and we drop out of WC contention, we might get a few takers on him.
  13. Where you play also makes a difference. Much easier to hit in Ari. Much easier to get away with a mistake changeup at Target field.
  14. Bob-thanks for posting that. Quite interesting to read. My point is if you are close, why not try? I'm not saying to sell the farm. But you never know how a few small/medium sized deals can impact the last 2 months. I also think the run differential is skewed from about 5 really bad games. But I get your point. I'm just naively optimistic and want to go down with a fight
  15. Are you really worried about run differential? I'm sure there have been plenty of teams that have snuck in the playoffs with bad run differentials. If you get in, you get in. Does not matter how. Wins are the only thing that matter right now. I guess everyone has their own gambling tactics...to me, being within close reach at the end of July means time to throw in some chips. An evaluation has to be made about how many. It seems like a lot of good teams have been vulnerable this year (minus Hou). A ten percent chance of making it might be as high as it's going to be for a while.
  16. Those of you who don't like this trade are CONSERVATIVE! You never know how a trade will work out. Sometimes you get burned. But don't you want to TRY to win? This will not be the only move. Let's go get Britton now baby!
  17. Jaime has a lot of experience, and most AL hitters have yet to have faced him. Also gives us an option to vary our arms in the rotation and put less pressure on Berrios. Santana (RHP) Jaime (LHP) Jose (RHP) Mejia (LHP) Whoever is pitching least worst
  18. I guess I'm optimistic our OF is set for awhile. If Royce goes to the OF, so be it...I won't be disappointed. I just like the idea of having a great 3rd baseman with range for many years. Obviously we're a ways away...Will be fun to watch him progress and see what happens.
  19. Call me crazy, but I hope they move Lewis to 3rd sooner rather than later. Gordon seems to be our SS and it seems unlikely Lewis will be staying there long term.
  20. This feels like one of those games where you bet the over on every runs category thinking it will be a 9-6 game and then these guys pitch out of their minds to burn you. I don't know why, but I'm thinking we win this one 4-3.
  21. I would be shocked if the Dodgers gave up Urias. I wouldn't be shocked if the cards gave up Reyes. They are looking up at the cubs in their own division. They need power. The juice may be worth the squeeze for them.
  22. Just for the record, I mentioned a week ago Polanco reminded me of Cano-lite. Dick mentioned the same tonight. Just wanted to say I beat him to it. He's a genius, so I must be really smart.
  23. I wanted Benintendi badly-and the Red Sox picked him with the next pick. I hope he fizzles out and Jay shines, but here's what he hit at low A ball. I have a feeling he turns out to be a 20/20 guy who strikes out about the same amount as he walks. All that being said, I hope Jay starts and he and Berrios lead our rotation for 5 years. 24. A lot of good arguments here. I found myself going back and forth with how I feel about this. Ultimately this is what I think: The chances of Nolasco helping us be a better team is slim. The chances of Shields helping us be a better team is pretty good. Also, many of you are saying the only way he opts out is if he has a great year. Why can't he have an "ok" year and not like it in MN? He could easily opt out and go for a 1 or 2 year contract worth close to 15-20 million/yr to someone like the Yanks/Angels/Dodgers. The chances of us getting a good year from him, getting rid of Nolasco and getting a comp. 1st is pretty decent I'd say. Do I think San Diego does it straight up? No.
