  1. You think he'll get more than Wheeler?
  2. I like ideas 3 and 4...but you're going to have to combine all prospects into one trade and choose one!
  3. Will Angels go after Cole or Rendon? Texas and LAA could getting into a bidding war for Rendon...
  4. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/robbie-ray The more I think about it, the more I like the idea of trading for Ray...if we are able to extend him. Let's say 5/100? (or we could match Wheeler's deal) We would have him ages 28-33. Tons of talent and ceiling is high. Had a good, but not great 2019. Would cost a lot, but not as much as Syndergaard and probably Gray. ...and he could be a guy that shuts down anyone in playoffs. Swing and miss stuff at an elite level. What you guys think?
  5. This thread was Tiger/Matthew Boyd related, but wanted to see who else might be out there. Tough coming up with a list of realistic trade candidates. Here's what I got. Robbie Ray-Arizona has him under control for the upcoming year only. They are kind of in the middle of going for it/rebuilding. Going to take a big haul. Worth it for one year? Could we extend him? ($10.8M in 2020) Jon Lester-2 years and $40 mil left. Pretty gross. But if a trade could include Kris Bryant = worth it. Jon Gray-cheap, under control for 2 more years. Another guy that's going to cost a haul. Kyle Freeland-was terrible last year. Bounce back candidate? Cheap, under control for 3 years. Danny Duffy-basically has 2 years/$30 mil left. Again, pretty gross...especially for a 3 or 4. Sandy Alcantara-What is Miami doing? Nobody knows. Gallen would have been sweet. Do they sell off Alcantara as well? 4 years of cheap control. Worth Kiriloff? Vince Velazquez-cheap and under control for 2 years. Has Philly had enough of him? Who knows. Chris Archer-2 years/$20 mil left. Will Ptt try to salvage something for Archer? They probably should. Johnny Cueto-Seems like he has been around forever, but is still only 33. 3 years/$64 mil. Yikes. But could probably be had for cheap. Joe Ross-only 26. Cheap. 2 more years of control.
  6. Going to be weird seeing MadBum in a uniform other than the Giants, but I do hope it is ours. He seems like he would be a good complimentary pitcher to Berrios and Odorizzi...and Graterol/Balozovic whenever they come up.
  7. I'd be happy with 3/60.
  8. He more than likely wanted to stay in the NL. Now go offer 6/220 to Cole! (this would be the largest contract in MLB history-time to change our history and win some playoff games)
  9. I am a realist and realize we will more than likely not end up with Cole. But for some reason, it feels like this is a year we have a chance. There are a lot of really good FA out there, both pitching and position-wise. Would not be surprised if the Yankees sign Cole. But I would also not be surprised if they signed Rendon or Castellanos/Didi instead...or went the Strasburg route instead. There are only so many teams that afford Cole right now. We are one. If we are ever going to throw an offer out there for an elite ace, now is the time to do it. There are not many opportunities like this. If Wheeler signs before Cole does, we add other pieces. Bumgarner, Ryu, Keuchel, Gausman, Aaron Sanchez, ect. I do not see a huge difference between Wheeler and those others. I see a HUGE difference between Cole and everyone else. Like, the difference between winning playoff series and not. *I am leaving Strasburg out, not because I do not like him, but because I am paranoid of his injury history.
  10. Sorry to get a bit off topic. Castellanos is one of the best hitters in the game and is still 27. He's going to get overpaid?
  11. https://www.mlb.com/news/largest-contracts-in-mlb-history-c300060780 I think you are right in that it will be a bit higher...but it is in the same ballpark as the highest paid pitchers of all time.
  12. Just thinking out loud here. Feels like the 5/110 prediction many of you have made is about right. Would you rather OFFER (because ultimately it is up to the player where he wants to sign) that $ on Wheeler, hoping he improves, or offer 6/200 to Cole, hoping he stays the same or does not fall off the cliff? Basically 22/yr vs 33/yr. with medium to high risk vs. very little risk (yes, I am using my own risk parameters).
  13. Texas hoping he is Lance Lynn part 2.
  14. Yes. I'm also intrigued what he could do in bullpen. I'm thinking Trevor May with control.
  15. I like this idea. Jose Iglesias???
  16. Ultimately, if you are going to spend this much on a SP, whether it is 5/89 or 5/110 or whatever it is, you better believe in his stuff to win a playoff start or two. I am tired of playing to GET to the playoffs. Sign someone who will WIN playoff games. Is Wheeler one of these guys? I trust our front office and coaches to determine that.
  17. Mookie Betts will be a free agent after this year and will be making $27.7 million. He will probably sign a HUGE contract with someone after this year. That being said, is he a player you would be willing to splurge on for one year, in an attempt to go for it all? What would you be willing to give up? Here is my proposal: Byron Buxton, Luke Raley and Cole Sands. It would be heartbreaking to lose Buxton. Especially to get Mookie for only 1 year. I get it. But I am putting my chips all in. Getting a deal done early would also help to entice a FA pitcher or 2. CF: Kepler SS: Polanco RF: Mookie DH: Cruz 2B: Arraez C: Garver LF: Rosario 3B: Sano 1B: FA (would love to sign Castellanos here and try him at 1B, but I think he gets a long term deal somewhere) *I don't even know how to put a lineup together with these players. *Kiriloff/Rooker would take over for Betts after this year in RF *Sign 2 of Wheeler/Bumgarner/Hamels What would you give up for Betts?
  18. 90-110 pitches every 5th day = 60-70 pitches every 4th day? Who knows? Just throwin stuff out there.
  19. My closest comp to this role would be Ryan Yarbrough. He had 28 appearances and half of them were starts. He came up just shy of 150 innings. For Bumgarner, I would want him to start some games and go 4-5 inn, and come in after the opener some games for 3-4 innings. If he had 35-40 appearances...let's say half of each, he would end up around 160 inn.
  20. yes. He would still give us 150-175 innings. Just innings through multiple scenarios. He has tons of post-season experience, still was very effective last year, and would (hopefully) be a great mentor to all of the younger arms.
  21. I like to zig when everyone else is zagging. Think that's why the Rays are where they are. We could do something very similar with our pitching staff. Here is my off-season take (feel free to laugh!). I do like the idea of Grandal catching and Garver playing primarily 1B, but I'm guessing Milwaukee picks up his option. Instead, I want to sign Castellanos and have him play 1B/part time OF/part time DH. If you can play 3B, you should be able to play 1B. He is going to be expensive. He will be worth it. He is going to be cheaper than Abreu, and 5 years younger. He will be in his prime during our "window." Though Cron did a nice job for us this year, but no mas. Nicolas Castellanos 5 years/125 million with opt out after year 2 I'm not huge on Castro as a backup, but not many options as a bridge to our farm boys. He is familiar with our staff, which puts him slightly ahead of a few other FA catchers. Jason Castro 1 year/3 million Sano stays at third. Polanco stays at SS. Arraez 2B, Marwin/Gordon/Ehire UTIL. Cruz DH. Keeping our outfield in tact as well. Rosario/Buxton/Kepler. Roll the dice and extend Buxton 5 years/40 million. Here's where we get a little funky. Madison Bumgarner 3 years/50 million Will Smith 3 years/40 million Dellin Betances 2 years/10 million Tony Cingrani 2 years/10 million Berrios is our lone "full-time starter." Bumgarner, Smeltzer, Dobnak are part time starters/part time secondary pitchers. Betances, Cingrani, and Graterol are openers/middle pen guys. Rogers, Duffey, May and Stashak back-end guys. AAA and AA guys audition for final spot(s).
  22. We better look for hitters who have success against Cole, because he will be a Yankee soon.
  23. I have not looked through a lot of this thread, so my apologies if my post is redundant. I think a lot of credit needs to be given to the Yankees, as much as it hurts. Boone did a GREAT job throughout the year managing and dealing with all of their injuries. For that reason alone I respect them more than I usually do. Not sure if you guys know this, but they are GOOD. Our pitching wasn't great by any means, but they took a ton of frustratingly close pitches. They played some damn good defense. Their pitching staff is good. This is what a WS contending team looks like. A lot of us on here were disappointed at the deadline for not adding key pieces. It definitely showed. Did we want to MAKE the playoffs or MAKE A RUN in the playoffs? Don't mean to beat a dead horse, but it is what it is. They will have to make the same decision this off-season.
