  1. Not sure if anyone has mentioned this, but the Marlins are denying any interested team a chance to negotiate an extension with him before a trade is made. Risky business. But I would offer any package not involving Royce/Kiriloff. Graterol, Rooker and Gordon might tempt them.
  2. I would not be surprised if the Dodgers offered Ruiz and Verdugo. I would be shocked if Mia did not take that offer. The Twins cannot afford to beat that offer, unless they go "Plan B" and sell Mia on Buxton and give up Graterol as well. Even that seems like a lot.
  3. His weighted runs created predictions just went way up.
  4. Piggybacking off of the other thread right now that says we are one of the possible mystery teams in on Harper or Machado. Let's say by either adding extra years, more $/year and/or opt out clauses, you can sign one of them. Harper has been a little injury prone. Machado with the "attitude." Who do you choose?? What does the new lineup look like?
  5. Who in the gosh darn heck is our closer this year? Any predictions? Kimbrel? Bottom feeder FA? Existing member of the bullpen? Night by night match-ups? FA options still out there: AJ Ramos has some experience, but had a terrible 2018. Does Greg Holland have anything left in the tank? Tyler Clippard or Justin Wilson might be worth a shot. Some on here talking about Brach. Carson Smith is an under the radar guy. What say you?
  6. It would be an interesting study to find out the average level a player gets to in each organization...I guess would be another way of grading organizational depth and development. Do "they" have something like this already?
  7. Do you think Curtiss is better than Magill or do you just like Curtiss more because of the options? Magill was pretty solid for us the first half, and was maybe a bit overused...leading to his 2nd half decline. (not saying I'm crazy about Magill-but he is an okay back of the bullpen guy)
  8. Ottavino signs a 3/27 deal with the Yanks. Good for them, he will fill a huge gaping hole in a really bad bullpen. Now they only have 4 potential closers and 3 RP that strike everyone out (along with 2 other shut-down 6th inn guys). Good luck scoring runs on them from the 6th inning on. Looks like they have a good shot of overtaking the Red Sox this year. Red Sox better resign Kimbrel or they are going to be in rough shape.
  9. MLB network talked about Bonds/Clemens getting into the HOF last night. Always an interesting conversation. If you could (had to?) vote in one of these players, who would it be? (You can't say none of them) 1) Bonds 2) Clemens 3) McGwire 4) Shoeless Joe 5) Rose
  10. Still a lot of free-agent season left. Quality players still out there. We've already signed a few FA-don't be surprised if they sign a couple more (no, I'm not expecting Machado). I agree with your overall concept, but we might be more in win-now mode than you think...let the off-season play out and we might be in as good of position as any team in our division. *Also, when the Twins are in "definite win-now mode," how much will they spend? What is the most we have ever spent? Do you expect that number to go up?
  11. FWIW Have a couple sports geeks buddies that are big time Angel fans (realistic ones). They said he "was decent," and probably the best RP in their pen, which was not very good. Parker a safer bet to contribute for us. Curtiss, like you said, has higher ceiling, but Parker a better chance of being reliable.
  12. For the love of God! If these numbers are accurate, please counter with 5/175!
  13. Guys that throw mid 90's with no control and in their mid to late 20's are a dime a dozen. It comes down to whether a pitching coach sees something he feels worth taking a look at in case something mechanically can be fixed. You just have to have some kind of command, that's all there is to it. If you don't, you are not going to last very long. *I actually liked Curtiss, but I understand why they made this move if they feel he has maxed out his potential
  14. While reading through this thread, I was determined to write something about how Allen scares the daylights out of me every time I see him pitch and that we should stay away and look for other options. ...then I looked at the other options: Kimbrel: no way we sign him Ottavino: great set up guy, but can he close? Someone is going to overpay ? ? Gets pretty thin after these two. I agree with those of you who would want to sign him to an "opportunist contract." He still has nasty stuff and closer experience. He might be our best option out there, bang for buck. I'm in on a 2/20.
  15. Offering a 5/200 deal might be ideal. 40/year too tough to turn down for Manny, and we get him age 26-31...in time for him to get another large deal. I would be shocked if multiple teams do not offer this kind of a contract.
  16. Will be interesting to compare how well LeMahieu/Dozier/Schoop/Lowrie do in the next year or two.
  17. Do players get paid when they are striking? Or is it on a player by player basis depending on their contract?
  18. I have a feeling Moncada is about to bust out. Machado and Moncada could be good for a long time. I would love to offer 3/120, 4/160 or 5/200 to Machado and have him for his peak years...and not pay him post peak years. Can you imagine our lineup? He is a top 5 player in the league. These opportunities do not happen very often. Hope we at least try.
  19. He can take Joe's locker. Great value signing. Lots of power. Lots of leadership. Will help to get Sano's head on straight. Makes games much more interesting to watch as well...
  20. Fair points-and you're right, their offense does deserve some of the blame as well... I guess my overall point is that they should either "really go for it" and sign 2 or 3 nice FA and keep Trout the whole time, or trade him while his value is at its apex. Harvey and Cahill are not those type of signings.
  21. It's definitely a complicated situation. Might be a no-win situation. Fans in a major market are not going to be happy with an organization if they are unable to win with a player of Trout's caliber AND if the organization has a 3 year dead zone after the player leaves in FA (especially if they get little to nothing back for them).
  22. I REALLY like Britton. Man he would be nice as our closer. C'mon Twins! Give us an early Christmas present! Britton and Ottovino...happy New Years.
  23. I am sure I am in the minority on the Trout/Angels situation, so we'll just have to agree to disagree. But a few final thoughts to throw out there: 1: Just because the Angels CAN sign Trout to an extension, doesn't mean they will (East coast guy-he's got Yankees or Phillies written all over him) 2: I would bet anyone and give 5-1 odds that the Angels will not make the playoffs in the next 2 years. (pitching staff IS the downfall-you can throw any stats out there you want...watch their games on a normal basis and you'll know what Angel fans are going through.) 3: Because of #2, I ask this question...would you rather have the best player on the planet for 2 years and not make the playoffs, or start building your (very near) future. The general consensus is that an organization should either go all in or completely tear down and re-build. Anything in the middle is considered treading water and very dangerous. I consider the Angels situation treading water, especially after they sign Cahill and Harvey and not other top FA to pair with Trout for 2 years. Maybe they still will. I would understand then and be all for it. Fans will love watching Trout, obviously. He will put fans in the seats all by his lonesome. But when he leaves in two years, the Angels will be in a tough spot.
  24. Their offense/defense is okay to above average, but their pitching staff is BAD. Maybe if they were in our division they could go for it. But Hou/Oak are pretty tough and Sea isn't horrible. If they want to contend, they better sign pitchers other than Harvey and Cahill. That was my point...and if they aren't going to, sell Trout now before the last year of his contract. Like Mike said, you might not get "fair" value, but 4-5 really good prospects would go a long way to rebuilding and having a team ready by the end of Pujol's contract.
  25. Angels need to trade Trout while they can to get the most for him. That team is no where near contending for anything, and signing Harvey and Cahill does nothing. I live close to LA and have a bunch of Angel-fan buddies who have been frustrated with the organization the last few years, and always talk about Trout being wasted.
