    I know this question wasn't geared for me, so my apologies. I would say the usual suspects-both LA teams, both NY teams, and Boston. Whoever loses out on Harper and Machado will want to add some pop elsewhere. Red Sox have Pedroia, but he is running on fumes and Hanley's contract is off the books after this year.

    So if our minor league talent isn't ready (and if our young guys don't progress), you think the Twins offer him 90 million+? Or you don't think he will make that much anywhere?

    I really do not see him signing a contract for less than 90-100 mil (let's be real-he's earned it). I do not see us paying him that much. It is as simple as that. I would love to have him back, but he is really going to have to buy into this club and give a hometown discount if he is going to remain a Twin. I'm guessing someone ponies up and offers him 5 and 100 or 110.

    Isn't this true for this year's entire FA class? 3.38 ERA in nearly 1000 inn...he wanted to come here. Who knows how he will pitch this year, but this was a REALLY good signing. Some of you guys are tough!

    Mejia seems to struggle getting through 5 inn almost every single game he pitches in. He is a mid-4's ERA guy. ERA counts for something, especially with a really good defense behind you. If Lynn makes 30 starts and throws 180 inn with an ERA in the low 4's, doesn't that seem to be an improvement over Mejia? I am cheering for Mejia to take the next step-and he very well might. But Lynn is an improvement over Mejia, and might mean 2-3 more wins on the season...which is the difference in getting a wild card bid or not.

    Not many players these days spend their entire career for one club. Joe seems like the type of guy who would appreciate/value doing so. I would put my money on one of two outcomes after this year: retiring or taking a cheap one year contract for one last WS run. 6'6" guys usually don't play into their late 30's either.

    Maybe this is the wrong way to look at things, but the division he pitched in had some pretty good hitting teams (Cubs/Reds/Brewers) and he pitched pretty well against some AL teams as well in inter league play. I would be confident when he pitches against the white sox, tigers, royals, and most AL teams. Much more confident than when our current 3-5 pitchers are on the bump.

    I'm sure they don't ever fully disclose all terms of any contract being offered. 2 years/12 million might be what was guaranteed. Incentives might have bumped it to 12 million/year. There might have been a 3rd year player option. Who knows. No use speculating with so many uncertainties. I'm just glad we are still having conversations with SP free agents. Something is going to happen. Soon. I can feel it.

    The real wildcard that will effect the lineup the most is Buxton. Does he start off cold in the 1st half? Does he hit well at the bottom of the lineup but struggle to hit at the top? Who is hitting ahead of him-does he have slow runners on the pads in front of him? There are quite a few posts throughout these threads with everyone's ideal lineup-and a lot of them make a lot of sense. I think ideally, if Buxton can handle it, he hits leadoff and someone with at least decent speed hits 8 and 9 so that we can watch him run. Here's my take if he can handle lead-off duties: Buxton CF Mauer 1B Dozier 2B Sano 3B Rosario LF Morrison DH Castro/Garver (50/50 split) Kepler RF Polanco SS

    Interesting thought, but changing someone's swing can take a LONG time. I can see this taking more effect to young prospects in the minors. Guys that have been around a while might not adjust well/fast or want to change their swing.

    Didn't the Dodgers offer a 6 year deal as well? It sounds like (who knows if it's true) we were one of a handful of teams that offered $100 million + contracts. I don't see how people are upset with that. He chose the Cubs over us and those other teams. I don't fault our FO and I don't fault Darvish for going the Cubs. Why wouldn't you want to? That being said, we better get on it and sign a FA pitcher or two, or this is going to be a tough year.

    Are you really saying you would want Gibson over Lynn, Cobb or Arrieta for this year and beyond?

    A few things here: * I doubt anyone gives Darvish 7/175. * People are waaay too hopeful on our young pup AAA and AA pitchers to make an impact this year. * Don't people think we can do better than having Gibson as our #5? * People are underestimating Lynn and Cobb, who are really solid 3's. * I wouldn't mind signing Vargas or Tillman to a one year contract to be our #5, IF we also sign one of the top 4 FAs.

    I wouldn't mind throwing some dollars at Todd Frazier...can play 1st or 3rd with good power and a good glove. Seems like a good dude as well. Are these FA going to sign? Holy smokes.

    How would you rank the Cubs, Brewers, Reds, Rockies and D-Backs offenses compared to AL teams? Lynn pitched well against all of them last year (he also had 2 QS against the Red Sox). Don't get me wrong, I would rather have Darvish than Lynn and/or Cobb. But at the same time, people are selling them short. I think both Lynn and Cobb are borderline 2/3 guys, not 4/5 guys.

    Who is everyone here predicting will be the closer? 7th and 8th inn guys? Or do you think it will be a mixed bag depending on each game's unique circumstances? I think Rodney starts as the closer but has a short leash. Reed the next guy in place. I think Busenitz/Rogers are the 7th inn guys. I love the depth we have!

    C- Garver/Rortvedt 50/50 1B/DH- Rooker/Sano/Kiriloff 2B- Dozier (will be his last year) SS- Javier 3B- Lewis OF- Rosario/Buxton/Kepler/Baddoo/Kiriloff *This will be the last year these 3 are together Gordon/Wade/Polanco/Granite/Jay etc. need to get traded for Cole.
