Just checked in and saw that I was mentioned. I'll tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. First of all, I've never been a good golfer. I'd usually hit 2 or 3 good shots in an 18-hole round. I think I've played once in the last 15 years. So. City Park-Rec tournament at the local 9-hole course, probably 1971, which made me 15 years old. Par 3, 170 yards or so, slightly uphill. I believe I used a 3-iron because I didn't know any better. I swung hard, hard enough that I lifted my head a little and bladed the shot. I'm surprised I didn't cut the ball. So it's basically a line drive that bounced once or twice and then bounced again right where the hole happened to be. The ball probably would have wound up 30 yards past the hole otherwise. I challenge anyone to describe a luckier, less-deserved ace.
