  1. Just like me. I may be short, but I'm slow.
  2. Or Delmon Young, who would have broken back on the ball followed by a 540-degree turn to come back in.
  3. I think the ball may have just nicked the pole. Too close to overturn.
  4. Man, is that one of the best things we've seen in weeks!
  5. It took one pitch for this jinx to take effect.
  6. That's what happens when you throw a get-me-over fastball to a home run hitter.
  7. I know your remote has a mute button, but if the Twins can come up with a win it will be worth listening to him.
  8. Is anyone else actually watching the game?
  9. That's something you don't see often.
  10. I was going to point out that I was the first to change my location to "Proxima Centauri b or bust" (before Craig did), but then I noticed I actually put "Proxima b or bust" so I guess I lose on a technicality. Fixed now. Edit: I still win. The "b" is properly lower case.
  11. Sorry, but I think the to-kill-ya score is much higher than that.
  12. What does baseball have to do with game thread?
  13. I liked that show so much I used to record it to watch it later in case I missed it. Now the only TV show I watch is Twins baseball. When I can stand to do that.
  14. When I logged on this thread was already on page 13. And the game hasn't started yet!? After a 13-game losing streak!? I've gotta read it all just to see what's up.
  15. I probably shouldn't post this but I will anyway. I think the women would be "mountees" as contrasted with "mounters". (If this is deleted by a mod and I get a warning point I accept.)
  16. I disagree with this. I think Pohlad's remarks about total system failure were exactly what he thought. With that in mind he and St. Peter have done exactly what they should have done in seeking expert advice on this matter and working to create a new system. They have now taken the first step by restructuring the top levels of operation of the baseball side of the organization and have proceeded to the next step by identifying candidates to fill the top position there. Once the POBO is in place I think s/he will have a lot of freedom to decide how the middle and lower levels of baseball management will be structured and who will be chosen to fill those roles. I wouldn't describe myself as enthusiastic about this but more reassured that a thorough, proper approach to solving the problem appears to have been put in place.
  17. My son told me just now that Vin Scully's first year as a broadcaster, 1950, was Connie Mack's last year as manager. That one year of overlap means that two men have had a presence in Major League Baseball in every year of the modern era. Connie Mack's first game as a player was in 1886 but he had 5 years out of baseball before 1901.
  18. Give in to the dark side of the force, you knob!
  19. That was very very cool. Going back a generation earlier, legend has it that the song "Runaway" by Del Shannon had a similar origin. The band stumbled across a chord sequence and melody while on stage and eventually worked it up into a hit song.
  20. I don't know if I can keep the TV on.
