  1. I thought exactly the same thing when I heard him say that while driving. (To clarify, I was driving, not Cory.)
  2. What's the best way to tell the difference between a violin and a viola? The viola burns longer. (Thanks to Victor Borge.)
  3. Their primary pajam...err...uniforms.
  4. And it doesn't stop with their sports department.
  5. Well, would you call Mr. Mays "William"?
  6. Just to let everyone know, my last post was at 12:56. It's now 20:54. I intend to read the entire thread because opening day, and 7-1, and 114 MPH exit velocity.
  7. You left out Journey and Kansas. (Man, my fingers didn't want to type those names but I gritted my way through it.)
  8. http://mlb.mlb.com/min/schedule/tibn.jsp
  9. Mauer is still one of the top nine hitters in the organization. As such he should be in the lineup as much as possible.
  10. Led Zep? Jimmy Page? You mean the Frank Zappa version isn't the original?
  11. It's kind of sweet how naive and innocent the newbies are when it comes to game thread content.
  12. Ah, opening day, when the game threads actually count. Unfortunately for me (and probably fortunately for everyone else) I'll be behind the wheel during much of the game so you'll all have to pick up the slack for me. But I'll make up for my absence today by contributing my abscess to future threads.
  13. It only takes a slight misplay or an odd bounce for him to turn a double into an ITPHR. I think I said this on another thread a few months back, but I'm going to predict 5 of those.
  14. Yep, and every step closer the third baseman plays to anticipate a bunt increases the likelihood of a ground ball becoming a single or a double.
  15. Santana: agree, hard to see how he is still here other than luck of the draw. Breslow: he has reinvented himself to the extent that previous metrics no longer apply; he's a brand new player.
  16. And Nolasco starting on opening day is not the worst thing about the Angels' situation. They owe Albert Pujols $26M this year. And $27M in 2018. And $28M in 2019. And $29M in 2020. And $30M in 2021. Plus $10M for a personal services contract after that. All with a full no-trade clause.
  17. It is an economic issue, but it's regarding Haley. They would have to give something up if they want him to go to Rochester. That's where Park's roster spot went.
  18. More pitchers are needed when it's cold because it's more difficult to stay loose when it's cold, making it easier for pitchers to get injured, especially if there are a lot of warm/cool cycles (like between innings). There are fewer home runs when it's cold because cold air is more dense and provides more resistance to an object moving through it, hence fly balls don't travel as far. So both posts are correct.
  19. I doubt that. The advantage of a higher draft position is much less in baseball than in other sports, especially basketball. Purposely losing confers hardly any benefit.
  20. It's difficult to predict pitching match-ups more than a week ahead of time due to off days, injuries, etc. I think it's prudent to set your rotation going generally from most-reliable to least-reliable, also trying to avoid putting similar pitchers back-to-back.
  21. Kepler has played a significant amount of 1B in the minors. I don't know if he has kept his infield skills current or not. The thing about him as Mauer's backup is they are both left-handed batters. Have Grossman and Giminez actually played 1B in the past? I'm wondering if they might have some talks going on with agents and/or other teams that they hope to finalize between now and Monday. This roster feels very temporary to me.
