  1. In case anyone hasn't heard, the scoring on the play in center field on Friday night has been changed to a hit. One more reason not to bash Hicks for that play.
  2. Withdrawn because of injury. Not troubling in the sense you mean.
  3. If Buxton were leading off that would have been his dinger instead of Dozier's.
  4. I was hoping the Twins would find out if he'd be allowed to wear 07.
  5. Who? Seriously, I'm very interested to see the young man play. I don't think this move was made for the purpose of trying to get the Twins to the postseason this year; I think it's just to see what he can do.
  6. GM's never say out loud they are rebuilding even if everyone including the GM knows it full well.
  7. Chris Colabello is the one who gave me Willie Norwood flashbacks.
  8. My problems with this are: there's no guarantee "the real pieces" are in place now, if they are in place now, there's no guarantee that there will be enough success to make the postseason now, and by the time the rebuilding fully matures you will have traded the extra pieces needed to address the other weaknesses or to trade for the pieces you need. Two valid opinions, and of course we each know which one is right.
  9. In theory it can and it should. The hard part is identifying which players are the correct ones to trade and to trade for and finding a team that feels the opposite. As my son has said: In theory, "in theory" is the same as "in practice", but in practice they are not the same.
  10. Oops. Aaron Slegers is the starter tonight according to the Miracle web site. I thought it would be Gonsalves based on looking at the last 5 box scores. They may be on a 6-man rotation.
  11. +1. I see his skill set and envision a solid MLB outfielder, and people with much more baseball knowledge than I have apparently see the same.
  12. Unless there's big rain I'll be at tonight's Miracle game. I had hoped to see Hu or Stewart but my third choice, Gonsalves, goes tonight. Tanner Vavra had last night off so I expect he'll be starting as well. Sidelight: tonight is Latino Heritage Night at Hammond Stadium and as part of that Tony Oliva will be making a pre-game appearance. As what's-his-name on this site sometimes says: Winnah!
  13. Not much confidence but at least some hope, which is more than I could have said during the last two seasons.
  14. The Brewers would be the ones to decide how much is enough. And I'm pretty sure that their enough would be way more than TR's enough. As I have said before, the time for a trade like that would be to fill in one gap on a nearly complete team, not to fill in one gap on a team with several other gaps. My opinion is that it's unrealistic to try to assemble a WS-winning team in 2015. I know this is not a universally-held opinion but I just don't see the sense in trying to make the many upgrades needed to make this year's team a true contender. Too many changes at too high a cost.
  15. Thanks for the response. On Gibson's last start, I think it's also worth noting that the three HR's came early in the game, which is when the too-strong effect would have been most pronounced. His performance improved as the game went on. Regarding velocity, my guess (and it's only a guess) is that the too-strong effect is the result of less spin on the ball, meaning the pitches flatten out. A good sinker at 90 is more effective than a straight fastball at 95.
  16. I don't know the pitching mechanics behind this but I've heard the too strong reason (not excuse) several times before from several sources, all much more baseball-savvy than I am. If you know enough about pitching at the major league level to explain why you feel it's not a valid explanation I'd be very interested to read your analysis.
  17. I would not rip apart a voice of good logical analysis.
  18. Neither team is going to give these players away. You would certainly have to say goodbye to real value, probably a top 5 prospect, to get either of those players, especially Lucroy. Now is not the time. This would be the type of transaction to pursue to try to top off a team that is already a strong contender. I'm going to make a guess that in two weeks it will be apparent that the Twins will benefit far more from selling than buying. And I'll guess further that a trade will happen in about three weeks that will help solve our oversupply of starting pitchers.
  19. Gibson pitched on long rest last week against the Brewers and pitched poorly. Bert mentioned that sinkerballers tend to throw flat pitches when they are too strong. A 6-man rotation would probably be contraindicated for a rotation that includes Gibson.
  20. But Pujols was ready for the majors. Most baseball people say that after missing a year Sano isn't yet.
  21. I think it would be good for the game to have fines and/or suspensions for umpires in certain well-defined circumstances, for example baiting a player (or coach or manager) into arguing or making a bad call, especially if the call is unreviewable or unprotestable and affects the outcome of a game.
