  1. My general opinion is neither buyers or sellers. This is the time of year when buyers overpay and sellers know it. That means what the Twins would need to buy for this year won't be worth the cost, and Pelfrey is the only player I'd consider selling that other teams might consider buying. I agree that moving Plouffe can wait unless we get an offer from a significantly overpaying buyer.
  2. Yes, I did notice that and I was even going to post something about it on the game thread but I got distracted. He's the rare hitter for whom the ball goes farther than it appears it will when it leaves his bat. He'll hit a lot of "lazy" dingers like last night's, and he'll also hit some 500-footers. And I still think he'll be the first player to hit a ball over the third deck in left.
  3. Another RBI for Sano.
  4. I have, actually. I saw it happen a few years ago when Michael Restovich was on the team. He's the one who struck out and reached base which allowed a run to score. It may have even been a walk-off win
  5. Good play by Hardy.
  6. Patrick Reusse has said that one of the great things about baseball is that no matter how many games you've seen there's a chance that you can see something you've never seen before. I've never seen a 1-3 putout on a strikeout before.
  7. Hicks or Rosario would play right. Arcia would play left.
  8. The derby is not a distance contest.
  9. I hope our four outfielders next year will be Arcia, Buxton, Hicks and Rosario. Arcia or Rosario in left, Hicks or Rosario in right and Buxton or Hicks in center. If they can all improve as expected (or as hoped) for players at their ages that could be a formidable group with little to no drop-off when one is out of the lineup.
  10. It is obvious that the results have not been good, but I still want to give him the benefit of doubt. His history is that of a much better pitcher than we've seen. Pitching is difficult enough when healthy, and he has not been so during his tenure with the Twins. I don't think he should be guaranteed a place in the rotation but if he is competent next spring I think he should be given a chance to show what he can really do, just like Pelfrey this year.
  11. Today: NL Central: +27 AL Central: +8 AL East: +6 AL West: +2 NL West: -11 NL East: -32 Pittsburgh is 30-12 since May 22 and the Cardinals are, well, the Cardinals.
  12. If the ASG were a true ASG I'd care. The sole purpose of the game is to make as much money as possible for the owners, and for that reason the whole process is little more than a sham. It could be a great exhibition but instead it has evolved into a huge farce.
  13. I agree, but a 500-foot home run is still something special. It's kind of like I've heard said about the Grand Canyon: It ain't nothing but a hole in the ground, but you should see it!
  14. Oh, OK, cool! A major league baseball has 108 stitches. The Twins once recorded a 7-6-7 putout. There has been only one major league player in history whose first name was Harmon, and there has been only one major league player in history whose last name was Killebrew.
  15. I'm getting a premonition that one of the mods is going to split this discussion off into its own thread for going off topic.
  16. I think it probably would be mutually exclusive. At least it would be if I were the team trading the catcher.
  17. This is the key thought to keep in mind when discussing trades. If the Twins' only significant weakness were at catcher then we could think about overpaying for a Lucroy to try to win now. But this team is still rebuilding, winning record notwithstanding. Maybe, hopefully, within the next few years such a trade will be one worth making.
  18. The higher the velocity of a pitch, the higher the velocity of a batted ball. If a 95-mph fastball is struck in the same manner as a 65-mph pitch the former will leave the bat at a higher velocity than the latter. That's why Sano (or someone like Stanton) has a chance to do in a game what Stanton didn't do in the derby. Plus Sano will have many more opportunities to try to do it.
  19. The rain currently pelting Target Field is projected to be clear of the area in a couple hours, replaced by clear skies. Gametime: mid-sixties with a breeze toward right field.
  20. Patrick Reusse has predicted that Sano will be the first player to hit a ball over the third deck in left field and out of Target Field. While I don't think that will happen this week (at age 22 does he have his man muscles yet?) he's one of those players whose plate appearances you don't want to miss because something noteworthy can happen any time.
  21. Not a dinger but let's make something of it
