  1. With Gordon, Polanco, Arraez, Escobar, etc. in the organization, I'm not too high on Vielma. I want a little bat at every position. For all the highlight-reel plays he's made, how valuable is Andrelton Simmons? IMO, I'd rather have a Jeter type at SS who can really hit. I think Gordon is that guy. I'm with the group hoping ABW makes the Twins regret this. I think in the new analytical world his K rates made him unnecessarily frowned upon. Big and consistent HR and RBI totals are pretty rare these days. Good luck to him.
  2. Seth, I like the blueprint. I agree with you that I would want to see a big haul in return for Dozier. I see Thrylos caught this above, but I think you forgot Duffey. I would love to see him full-time in the bullpen (you know, like he did in college that got the team interested in the first place). I can imagine a few extra MPH added to his fastball to go with his dominant curve. Two pitches are more than adequate out of the bullpen. He could be your closer right there. Think K-Rod and his curve or (pie-in-the-sky) Hoffman and his changeup. Pair Duffey with the 100-mph guys and he'd be a lights-out change of pace.
  3. With just one solid half-year behind him it's hard for me to get behind Jay being ranked this high. He's got a ton of potential that comes with a lot of question marks. But I guess the same could be said for #'s 6-10 as well. I'm most excited to see Gordon in the AFL and next year in Chattanooga. I like his hit tool and if he could again add a little more pop (which getting out of Florida will help) over the offseason I see him busting out for a big year. I'm fine with an average defender at SS if he can hit like a stud.
  4. Agreed. Also, without doing my own research, what was Wade's injury? Is it anything that might cause some missed time next spring?
  5. Seth, I'm curious where you would have Chih-Wei Hu on the list if he was still around. He had a real solid year at AA for Montgomery. I think he's basically a clone of Jorge with a tad more K-potential. Last time I saw he was in the 6-8 range for the Rays organization.
  6. I agree that Garver seems low. Knowing who's coming up on the list, it looks like potential may be getting a bigger emphasis than performance. At this point I'm more excited about Garver than guys like Stewart who have just been okay in the minors so far or guys way off like Kiriloff or Javier. Here's to hoping Garver makes if through AFL healthy. I don't quite know why you risk the health of your top catching prospect with a second straight trip to Arizona.
  7. Does Cederoth project as a starter or reliever? If I remember right (no guarantee), I thought he mainly pitched in relief in 2016 and really excelled. I'm figuring given his 2016 stats, if he was projected as a starter, he'd be a bit higher on the list.
  8. Here's to praying this isn't a jinx ... Gordon improved on almost all of his batting stats as well as his steals and steal percentage. Given the FSL notoriously being tough on hitters, my prediction is that Gordon's assigned to Chattanooga next spring and rakes big time! If he improves a bit in the field (or probably stays steady at short) I see him cracking some Top-10 lists. If this happens it'd be interesting to see if he would get a mid-season promotion to AAA. It'd be a great problem for the Twins to have him enter the 2018 fold for 2B/SS with Dozier & Polanco. It might make the team a little more willing to deal either of those two sooner, thus hopefully getting a better return given their longer-controlled deals.
  9. Great idea for an end-of-year article! I'll look forward to having this as a good wrap-up for upcoming seasons. I'd throw manager-of-the-year in as well. Too bad this first year didn't provide much in the way of debate for who made the list. I thought the list nailed each position.
  10. Any word on the team's interest or lack thereof in Kim Ng? I admit I haven't kept up on the latest GM gossip the past month or so. She seemed to be among the most qualified of the candidates initially discussed for the job. Has either side come out and said something either way?
  11. He listened to Twins coaching after coming to the team. He threw more strikes but he got lit up. In his last two or three starts, he’s gone back to what he did with the Angels and he’s been much better. Nice! Great to see what we all felt in writing. #18 - waiting to hear who our next GM & PBO are (and then getting the news this coaching staff is gone!!!).
  12. Maybe the solution to the reliever & starter issues is to not screw with what your guys are used to. Duffey & Jay were RPs in college. May has done nothing but start prior to midway last season. You're basically moving pieces around into more comfortable roles. Not too complicated.
  13. DH at 23? Given the other choices, I think that's a fine solution. If the Twins ultimately want him in the field, I think his best spot may be to take over for Mauer at 1B after the 2018 season.
  14. The Kernels have qualified for the playoffs all four years that they’ve been affiliated with the Twins and all four seasons under manager Jake Mauer. Joe who? Now who's "the other Mauer?" Congrats to Jake & the Kernels! Watching the affiliates make playoff runs over the past couple of seasons has been real nice considering the failure and overall crappiness of the MLB club.
  15. The Garver thing makes no sense. Let's risk injury (i.e. CONCUSSION) to a promising catching prospect in meaningless games in October. Oh yeah, he's been for the most part healthy all year and he already has AFL experience (last year when he raked). Let's give the catcher back-to-back long seasons to wear him down. I don't get it.
  16. Very cool story. I'd say with what he's overcome he'll be bringing a lot more fortitude and mental toughness than what's been in Minnesota all season. I'll be pulling for him.
  17. A few things ... 1. He hasn't been mishandled. I fell like his promotions through the system have fit with his performance. 2. Because of the Hicks trade, Ryan was going to push JR Murphy as the successor to Suzuki. The subsequent dumping of John Hicks reinforced Ryan's misguided, self-induced Murphy preference. 3. All that said, he needs to be a September call up. I'm hoping he gets the Kepler treatment. September call up, invitation to ST to compete for a roster spot. Starts back in AAA where he hopefully rakes, then is called up in May or June and sticks.
  18. I don't know if trading Dozier's the answer. He's the one actual established, somewhat consistent star the team has right now. How about the team flips the script and packages 2-3 top prospects and go get an established ace? As Buxton and Berrios are showing, there's no guarantee that all these highly-ranked prospects shine right away (if at all).
  19. If the Twins were unwilling to part with Plouffe this past offseason with a stud prospect in waiting, then it's highly doubtful they trade an actual star player like Dozier. And who's to say if we actually get a stud pitching prospect he'll pan out once he reaches the Twins. The Berrios situation isn't giving me too much confidence in the staff's ability to get the most out their talent.
  20. Nathan still blows the save and A-Rod still torches the Twins for the rest of the series. That said, everything that's happened since that 2010 call for the Twins has been a disaster. What was the ump's name? We need to name a curse after him.
  21. In addition, Mauer's HOF case is going to be hurt by his lack of postseason success. By the end of 2018 he'll be 4+ years removed from being a full-time catcher, so the "bump" from playing that position might not bee dso fresh in the minds of voters. I do think he has like a 40-50% chance of getting in. I think the last 2-3 classes have been so good (Maddux, Pedro, Randy Johnson, Griffey, Piazza) that we forget the likes of Andre Dawson, Ron Santo, Jim Rice, and Goose Gossage, players with some holes in their games/resumes, have gotten in recently.
  22. Kind of an in-between start for Jorge. I still think he's an intriguing guy going forward. I'd be curious what others think. Check out the following forum post I had last week on Jorge and an old friend of ours. http://twinsdaily.com/topic/23628-what-if-we-could-clone-felix-jorge/
  23. At this point I think his even getting a September call up is questionable. I don't know if just closing the door on this year will serve him better than further struggles in the majors. I would rather use the month to take a look at Palka & ABW II.
  24. The only way the Nolasco trade winds up being "great" is if Santiago is non-tendered. The beauty of the trade was it got rid of a mess that was a roadblock for a mess that could easily be let go before next season.
