  1. In addition, Mauer's HOF case is going to be hurt by his lack of postseason success. By the end of 2018 he'll be 4+ years removed from being a full-time catcher, so the "bump" from playing that position might not bee dso fresh in the minds of voters. I do think he has like a 40-50% chance of getting in. I think the last 2-3 classes have been so good (Maddux, Pedro, Randy Johnson, Griffey, Piazza) that we forget the likes of Andre Dawson, Ron Santo, Jim Rice, and Goose Gossage, players with some holes in their games/resumes, have gotten in recently.
  2. Kind of an in-between start for Jorge. I still think he's an intriguing guy going forward. I'd be curious what others think. Check out the following forum post I had last week on Jorge and an old friend of ours. http://twinsdaily.com/topic/23628-what-if-we-could-clone-felix-jorge/
  3. At this point I think his even getting a September call up is questionable. I don't know if just closing the door on this year will serve him better than further struggles in the majors. I would rather use the month to take a look at Palka & ABW II.
  4. I really like Felix Jorge. I was thinking that it's too bad we can't have two of him running up through the organization. Instead of scanning through the Minors to find a comp, all I had to do was open up last night's Lookouts box score to find a Jorge clone. Jorge 2016 (age-22) 21 GS, 10-6 (W-L), 2.57 ERA, 136.1 IP, 122 H, 42 R (39 ER), 8 HR, 20 BB, 99 K, .241 AVG, 1.04 WHIP Pitcher X, 2016 (age-22) 23 GS, 6-9 (W-L), 2.84 ERA, 133.1 IP, 123 H, 50 R (42 ER), 8 HR, 35 BB, 107 K, .246 AVG, 1.19 WHIP And Pitcher X just happens to be our old friend Chih-Wei Hu. Without digging up the horror that last year's trade has become, it's amazing to see just how similar these two are. Hu's been in AA all year, so Jorge's slight advantage I think comes from the fact 2/3 of his starts were in High-A ball. Hu also had a start in AAA that hurt his overall stats. While both Hu and Jorge will never be a Top-50 (or even probably a Top-100), they are intriguing players with playable strengths (low BB & HR rates, limits runs, consistent, durable). It'll be fun to see where they wind up in their careers. Too bad both aren't still here.
  5. The only way the Nolasco trade winds up being "great" is if Santiago is non-tendered. The beauty of the trade was it got rid of a mess that was a roadblock for a mess that could easily be let go before next season.
  6. I'm guessing there was a market since several 3B were moved over the offseason. The Twins either (1) over-valued Plouffe and asked for too much or (2) avoided the market altogether because they liked Plouffe and failed to see the logjam that exists today.
  7. I think any discussion about 3B long-term should include Polanco. And any GM worth a dang could have seen this coming this past offseason and done what most everyone saw as the wise, forward-thinking thing to do and trade Plouffe. The error of not moving him was even more confounding given the logjam at DH was also foreseeable at the time (and compounded with the Park signing).
  8. I was dreading Plouffe's return. This team's been clicking without him. I'm hoping the "no scholarship" mentality continues and he isn't just automatically plugged back in and Polanco is benched. That said, someone had to go down and Buxton was the obvious choice. I'd rather see him rake in AAA against lesser competition then flail away as the worst hitter in baseball with the Twins. To me, there's something to be said about confidence growing from just seeing results.
  9. I think the FO (whoever that may be) this offseason should focus on thinning out the logjam in the OF and at DH between MLB / AAA. In the OF, the Twins have Kepler, Grossman, Rosario, Buxton in the majors right now. In AAA, there's Palka and Walker. At DH, Sano and Vargas are in the majors with Park in Rochester. I would say Sano and Kepler are untouchable (probably Buxton too). I hope the GM could package one or two of the others, maybe along with Plouffe and get a decent pitching prospect in return.
  10. Garver might be the most important of the prospects listed above. He seems to have a good balance of ability with the glove and the bat. I've never heard anyone really complain about his defense. It was always underrated because they compared him to Turner, who seems to be elite defensively. But Garver's bat blows Turner's away. I would love to see Garver get the Kepler treatment. September call up. AAA to start next season. If he performs get him up quickly.
  11. Your comp seemed right, though I was hoping Granite had a little better OBP than Revere. Revere's minor league OBP was .382. Granite's so far is .351. He also has a lower SLG than Revere had. So yeah, Revere 2.0 might be his best-case.
  12. Granite really intrigues me, mostly because he's never gotten the attention of the top prospects in the organization. His numbers have been great this year. I know the SB isn't what it used to be, but with Granite, it's a weapon for sure. While he may not have the potential/ceiling of someone like Buxton, if both continue trending like they have into next season, I think Granite might getr a chance at a late season call up and have the opportunity to stick.
  13. Question: did the sheer fact that Antony was able to actually able to dump Nolasco shut down TD yesterday afternoon? Right after the news broke I wanted to get on the site but couldn't connect for like an hour or so. I imagined circuit boards and servers blowing up and a big party going on in the background. Color me impressed with Antony. I fall into the camp of wishing he had moved either Suzuki or Santana. Or even made a big splash with a Dozier trade. But I get the feeling that he believes the Twins can compete in 2017. So keeping those pieces seems around makes sense then.
  14. That would make a trifecta!
  15. He's on a roll!
  16. Antony sold high. A novel concept around these parts. No matter the ends, WIN!!!!!
  17. I think at this point the Twins could release Nolasco and eat his salary for the next two years and the fans would be ecstatic. His lousy pitching now isn't even the biggest problem anymore. He's blocking Berrios and now will be blocking Meija. Next year add Meyer, and May potentially to the group. I'd say that's more costly than the $25-30 million the team still owes him.
  18. Let me be the first to congratulate Nunez on the the World Series win. #evenyear
  19. Let them have a great July, especially if the likes of Ervin Santana, Suzuki, Nunez, Abad, Kintzler, and Nolasco play well. Up their value and then trade them for some decent pieces. Then call up the prospects and let them learn the ropes. At that point, either tanking or having the young guys perform well creates a win-win!
  20. Don't know if they'd do it, but how about Dozier for Glasnow or Taillion? The poster above who talked about the Pirates frugalness was dead on. I doubt they trade a young (cheap) prospect. But Dozier's contract is not bad. Staying in the division, the Cardinals desperately need a 2B to replace Wong, who's having a terrible year. Reyes is obviously off the table, but at least the Cardinals are always willing to deal.
  21. Here's my list. Have to move (bare minimum): Nunez Suzuki Abad/Kintzler E. Santana Would love to, but ... Plouffe Nolasco Combo pacakage: (pick any) D. Santana Vargas Rosario Grossman Escobar The game-changer: Dozier Getting nuts: Sano Kepler (ahhhhhhhhh, I'm freaking, but what the hell? What could you get?)
  22. IMO, if Antony wants the job, he needs to make a big move just to break the perception that he's just another conservative, safe Twins guy. I actually think Pohlad is looking for a big move to justify keeping the GM in house. To me, no bigger move can be made then trading Dozier. It opens up 2B for Polanco and gives the Twins the best chance for a nice return. That said, I wonder what Dozier could get. His track record puts him Top 10-12 2Bs in baseball. I wonder if you could get a young MLB/AAA starter for him. I'm dreamingOr maybe 2 AA prospects.
  23. Seth, how big a problem is the projected logjam? I'm not an expert on 40-man roster management, but I'd hate to see ABW run into the same usage problem that occurred between the Twins and Arcia. I know he (Arcia) struggled in the majors, but I also feel like his playing time was so inconsistent that it would have been hard for most any player to settle in. I also think the Twins dwelled on Arcia's weaknesses (bad defense, can't hit lefties) and failed to put him in situations that emphasized his strengths. All I hear about ABW from management is "Oh, he's gotta cut back on those strikeouts." Well yeah, maybe, but he does offer a pretty consistent track record on HR and RBI. Sure RBI is a misleading, team-related stat, but he still has to produce the run-generating hit with runners on. I don't know. I've always been a fan and am fearful the team will let him go for nothing. (My dream was a Arcia/ABW platoon at DH, but alas, it wasn't meant to be.)
  24. Trade him. Trade him. Trade him. How many times does he have to stink, then have a perfectly-timed hot streak (see 2014) and the Twins miss the chance to sell high? Use all the money "saved" when Ryan doesn't live up to his word and does nothing this month and spend it on Wilson Ramos in the offseason.
