  1. Hmm. We signed Murphy because he hit that one home run against us that one time. So did Gimenez- rocking one off Scott Baker back in '09. I see a pattern developing here. Has Castro ever gone deep against us? Edit time: Oh my gosh, yes. He tagged both Alex Meyer and Casey Fien just last year! One by one, we're slowly co-opting all those 2nd catchers who've dinged us in the past. Crazy like a fox, eh? Bravo, TR, and also DF and TL! That's strategery for ya, you betcha.
  2. Well, it is exceedingly early, and the sample sizes exceedingly small- but here's a guy who's already playing like he seriously wants to go north, and that is something right there.
  3. Crikey! Oi remember ol' Luke! He was a fair dinkum ripper from down under, mate! I'll throw another one at ye-- fer the old guys, like me-- Brant Alyea, how's that? He had a heck of a hot streak once... Halsey? Anyone?
  4. I'm just digging that 1) there are still bespectacled cats out there, and 2) that I get to see the word 'bespectacled' in such an august forum as this.
  5. Melo, man, Melo. A little surprised not to see him on many people's lists, even after the TJ surgery, and albeit lackluster results in '16. Here's hoping he'll bounce back this year Also, Zack Granite is my guy. Like for the last couple of years. Can't wait to see him in the Show.
  6. I echo many of the posters here who, even given Sano's need to maybe lose another 3rd grader or so, are welcoming the return to sanity. So much better than the Twin-sanity they're shown over the past couple years with May in the BP and Sano in the OF. I grew up watching Killebrew man the 3rd sack on regular shifts. Yes, he didn't have the greatest range, but that bat had to be in the lineup, as does Sano's. If you've got to make some defensive sacrifice, that's what corner positions are for. I leave you with this, from the great Frankie Frisch: "All you need to play 3rd base is a strong arm and a strong chest." Miggy Jr. has got that in spades.
  7. This unholy mess was just as bad as the Sano to RF and May to the BP fiascos. (fiascii?) No excuse, boneheaded decisions. And this nonsense about 'well, we never figured he was going to be great at it anyway,' is just so much malarkey. He IS the guy we're counting on in Mlb this year, and he was the one and only realistic option in the minors, so why in heck wasn't he in the 6 spot day after day? For Molly to say, 'gee, wasn't my fault,' is just as big a can o' malarkey too. You absolutely cannot tell me the ML mgr has no input or knowledge about that kind of situation. Cripe, how long has SS been an issue here? It's not like it snuck up on anybody we've needed help there for a heck of a long time. Pfft, to these excuses.
  8. Hadn't heard anything about that at the time--
  9. LIke the Sano to the outfield experiment, May to the bullpen was just another complete waste of time, and a great way to set back the development of a promising young player. I'm glad he's getting the shot this year-- at least, it seems that way... we'll see.
  10. Well, we took our lumps last year-- again-- but isn't it the best thing about 'ball, that every spring, hope sprouts for every team, like the crocuses peeking out of the snow, and the pearly white drifts turn to gray, leaden slush... Here's a young lady I happened to spy on the Hong Kong subway the other day-- she's ready for pitchers and catchers reporting right now! Although the little angel next to her seems to be more grounded in reality about said pitchers and catchers... Cheers from the East, where baseball happens as soon as you wake up in the morning!
  11. Kind of quizzical as to why Park is not on the Korean roster?
  12. Another SSS All-Star! That's what got us John Ryan Murphy-- he hit a huge HR against Perkins, and the FO thought, 'hmm.... this guy must be great!' (Apparently not realizing that these kinds of performances are against OUR pitching staff- not exactly Cy Young material...)
  13. It's Alaska. They once voted for a certain governor, so I don't think they put a lot of importance on grammar...
  14. I saw this post, and hadn't heard of Isaiah Aluko, so I looked him up. Apparently, he is truly multi-talented, according to this Alaska newspaper--- Take wing, young man! Take wing!
  15. I felt the same way when I saw this post at first. But then, given Twinks decisions in the recent past, I figured it was business as usual with this quizzical team. What a world, what a world, when news of the most moronic decisions are met with a shrug of the shoulders and an 'oh, well.'
  16. How long does the DFA period last, when the player may be claimed? Is it 10 days? I understand their reasoning, but I would still hate to lose Park.
  17. Welp. So much for "selling high" on Abad.
  18. Wow- that was bleak. Must have blocked it out of my memory. But hey! We got "Gulfa" Tonkin outta that draft- so, not a total loss! Oh, wait...
  19. Heh... good fun, Seth, this was a treat. Personally, I gotta go with Dan Osterbrock's comment! Nyuk, nyuk!
  20. From the album: Moto

    The Stupor Bowl
  21. Well, I don't mean to harp, but truly, given the field managerial performance the last couple of years, on a 100+ loss team- can you really expect things to be that much better? The way Molly gacked up handling of the young players, those lineups that seemed pulled out of a crazy hat, the bizarre in-game decisions-- I think they should have cleaned out the dugout first.
  22. This stuff being considered, and the way they're talking, it does seem like they still don't want to give the young'uns a shot again this year. That's why the single most disappointing thing this offseason is that they didn't clear the dugout first. Molly was horrible handling the kids the past couple years, (in addition to the rest of the team), and we're still thinking he's they guy for a young roster? Phooey.
  23. Well, these perceptions are kind of their own fault- they did the Castro deal early on, and got everybody's hopes up. Then.... cue the crickets.... I gotta concur with the assessment of disappointment. Although mine is the kind of disappointment accompanied with a knowing *sigh, same old Twinks* kind of reaction. In fact, it's kind of hard to type this with my shoulders shrugged, and palms upturned, eyes beseeching the heavens.
