  1. If Quentin, Mastroianni, and Benson come even close to the number of PA that Bartlett and Kubel had this spring, it will be a total buzz kill.
  2. Seems simple to me. If that scenario you laid out for Mauer happens, Sano goes to 1B and he's locked in that position for the next 8-10 years. Kepler to RF, Plouffe/Mauer aren't blocking anyone, everyone's happy.
  3. I'm going to read between the lines and think TR did take some calls about Plouffe, but didn't get the return they were looking for. Because making Plouffe an untouchable asset is just as insane as trading him for a lackluster return.
  4. I'm on board with that. I'm sure he'll be in the MLB bullpen out of ST since he's out of options, but if he's still inconsistent, I can see him being a DFA candidate and the young arms take his spot.
  5. That is true his appearances have been spread out over 3 seasons. I'd also argue there's a reason he's been on the AAA/MLB elevator. That being he's merely a AAAA player. The Twins have had a few examples in recent years (Slama, Oliveros, Achter) of pitchers with promising AAA numbers, but just doesn't have enough to stick in an MLB bullpen. At the end of the day I still agree with you that Tonkin's most likely going to make the opening day bullpen and get his shot. If he's still inconsistent over a few appearances, I hope the Twins are quick to move on to one of our other younger guys like Rogers, Burdi, Chargois, etc. if they don't make the team out of ST.
  6. To play devil's advocate, I would argue that Tonkin's received plenty of opportunities to stick. 60 MLB appearances is a pretty decent sample size, and perhaps he hasn't shown enough for the FO to keep him on the MLB roster.
  7. Couldn't agree more Willihammer. Time will tell if the Twins are aggressive enough to put them on the team right out of ST or not. I certainly hope they do.
  8. Clippard made $8.3 mill last year. Speculating that he'd be looking for a similar rate and multiple years. Love the guy's change up.
  9. Better hope that Perkins, May, Jepsen and Fien are in good shape at the beginning of the year. I see the Twins relying heavily on them until the younger guys are ready...
  10. Blaine Boyer was the king of that last year. Coming into the game with 2 runners on base, all of a sudden bases clearing double. All the earned runs gets credited to the starter, and Blaine Boyer finishes with a flashy 2.5 ERA....
  11. I'm kind of impressed you drew that long of a conclusion just from my last post. I was merely pointing out that the cause of signing those 3 pitchers was from the system being completely barren of young talent to help out. No where on that post did I rip the Twins for giving out those contracts. I am glad they at least tried to fix the situation. It's a little different in 2016 compared to 2013 and 2014 when the Twins signed those guys. In response to the bullpen, what would have made me happy was signing 1 legitimate bullpen arm. I've presented the examples of Storen, Sipp, Bastardo in several threads before. The Twins have the most fluid bullpen in the MLB with only Perkins signed beyond this year. I'm certainly not alone with my concern that only 3 proven guys (Perk, May, Jepsen) and seeing what else sticks is a great way to go into a new season.
  12. I just want to clear up this posting fee goes to payroll nonsense. Every where I look says the same thing. "The transfer fee is not included when calculating an MLB team's total payroll..." It is an expense, no question about it. But we may be the first team in MLB history that is justifying the posting fee as a payroll expense, and giving the benefit of the doubt that it is included in the payroll. Please let me know if I am wrong.
  13. Remind me what young pitchers were ready to come up and contribute before they signed Nolasco, Hughes, and Santana? It wasn't strategy. It was pure desperation as there was nothing at all in the organization to help the MLB club.
  14. diehard is right. Looking at the AAA rotation, once Berrios is up in the majors, that's going to be a weak rotation. And I doubt that any pitcher in A ball is going to get the Garza projection of moving up multiple levels in a season... I'm also with Chief. Get Rogers out of the AAA rotation, get him used to a routine pitching in the pen, and bring him up to the big show.
  15. I agree with this statement, but it's mainly the result of the Twins' inactivity, and this is what we're left with. There were several guaranteed contracts I would have liked the Twins to pursue (Bastardo, Sipp, Storen, etc.) But now that we're here, and the options are what you presented, I think myself and others are thinking what's the point? Might as well go with the young guys instead of Duensing again....
  16. Kepler + Plouffe + one of the SS prospects (let's say Palacios for now) for any one of Harvey, Syndergaard, de Grom, or Matz. Sign me up.
  17. Unfortunately this is where it went all wrong for you Jeremy. You see, Carl Pohlad gets text alerts for fraudulent charges on the company card. The restaurant you chose, Blue Door Pub, isn't on the normal expenses. Pohlad immediately calls the credit card company to deny the charge, and cancel the card. (You should have went to Manny's Steakhouse!!) So now, the waiter returns, and says "I'm sorry sir, but the card has been declined." Which really puts you in a pickle, because you went above and beyond ordering everything on the menu, racking up a $220 bill. What do you do? 12:03: You call Seth. Unfortunately Seth is out of town, and unable to wire any cash to you. 12:05 You call John. He laughs at your predicament, and says "Better start washing dishes!" 12:08 You call Parker. Parker says he can wire you the money, but would rather see you suffer for an hour or two. 1:35 After spending the last hour and a half worried about how you can get out of it, you come to the LAST Resort. Calling up Chief. Chief uses his intimidation tactics to scare the owner into letting you leave. 2:00 You call your wife, telling her that being a GM is a lot harder than you imagined, and that you almost got picked up by the cops because of a $220 bill at Blue Door Pub. She's mad that you are not bringing home any leftovers from lunch. 2:15 Stop by Target to pick up milk, thinking that will ease the tension of not bringing home leftovers. 2:35 Arrive home with the milk. Wife is still upset. You say I still have time to be a GM. Wife gives you more errands to run. 5:05 You're finished running errands. By this time, you're tired, and no longer in the right mind set to make any trades with GMs. 5:30 Jeopardy comes on. 6:00 Watch the news 6:35 Fall asleep on the couch. Wife still upset for not bringing home leftovers.
  18. Brewster was ignorant in a lot of things... What I remember most is he thought he could recruit elite talent in TX and FL, and like you said, completely ignore in-state talent.
  19. Can Bark come out of the woodwork to photoshop my face on Verlander's body? That is all.
  20. Offense will most certainly not be a problem for the Tigers. Miggy Cabrera is creeping up there in age, but is still one of the most feared hitters in the league. Upton's a streaky hitter, but if both Cabrera and Upton are on fire at the same time, watch out... It all depends on their pitching. If that's figured out on their end, I don't see why they wouldn't be contenders until the end in the AL Central.
  21. Hopefully that's on a day where Gibson is scheduled to start, and the sinker is sharp.
  22. That better be the case.. An OF of Sano-Rosario-Arcia just makes me cringe thinking about it.
  23. Yeah no doubt about it. I just don't know how Hughes can rebound in 2016 like most of us are anticipating with the OF defense behind him. Same with E. Santana too, who relied a lot on getting batters to fly out in the OF.
  24. I already feel bad for the fly ball pitchers in our rotation on days where Arcia and Sano are both playing the corners in the OF. I'm envisioning a lot of texas leaguers finding open grass, and base runners being able to advance much easier on us than last year....
  25. Apple and Google have been a fun ride the last couple of years. I'm waiting for a day when Apple reaches $700 a share again like it was in September 2013...
