  1. Meanwhile, the number of HBP per game in the MLB was very consistent from about 1915 until 1995, ranging from 0.15-0.25. After 1995, the number skyrocketed to 0.3 and hasn't decreased below that level since. Are we maybe taking these silly unwritten rules too seriously? Source: http://www.baseball-reference.com/leagues/MLB/bat.shtml EDIT:Ugh, I don't know why the link isn't working. If you're curious to know, go to baseball reference and you can see it in the MLB Batting Encyclopedia
  2. Fighting in hockey is being phased out of the game, because at the end of the day, it doesn't serve a purpose. Here's the number of fights per game the last 5 years 14/15: 0.32 13/14: 0.38 12/13: 0.48 11/12: 0.44 10/11: 0.52 The game is changing, and values skill over enforcers now more than ever. Even old school hockey fans are turning over a new leaf. Why can't baseball do the same with these silly "unwritten rules"? EDIT: Source - http://www.hockeyfights.com/stats/
  3. I agree with John that Sano is the run away MVP and ROY. Any other year and it would be Rosario as ROY. But I wholeheartedly believe the Twins would have been a 70-75 win team without his contributions.
  4. Hope that Hughes can find a little bit of that Brad Radke magic considering the decreased velocity... Not to be a debbie downer but it's a tough hill to climb when 2 out of our next 3 starters are on the "hope for 5 and pull" track....
  5. Way too easy for Ohio on that long TD.
  6. Nick Punto is available for hire. Best bunter in recent Twins memory....
  7. I was getting excited when I saw the freshman warming up on the sideline. If there's any chance he plays he's gotta be mixed in this week before the Big 10 schedule begins....
  8. Interesting read in the Star Tribune today concerning the Gopher's mind set after the "win" last Saturday. Sounds like Jerry didn't handle the heat put on him at the press conference.... My 2 cents: Kudos to Kill for making the Gophers football team a relevant topic that people actually care about again. However, you're dealing with issues that most college programs go through: injuries and lousy QB play. That's why you're paid the big, well median for Big 10, bucks to be a head coach - to figure out how to overcome these issues. There's a lot that needs to be figured out this week - does there need to be replacements on the o-line? Can Leidner show any passing ability so defenses can play honest and not stack 10 in the box? Will they stop with their 1960's style play calling on offense?
  9. Pathetic is right. Total collapse by the offense. Leidner doesn't get all the blame this game, but come on. Even Kent State doesn't respect the pass. It's time for a switch.
  10. Yep this is getting ugly in a hurry with Leidner. Inexcusable if you cant move the chains against Kent State.
  11. I think Berman only does one broadcast a season, and lucky for us we had to endure that. Someone should tell him to lay off the smokes, and Trent Dilfer was yelling the whole game like he just attended a concert.
  12. The smart decision would be to keep the redshirt status for Croft and just accept that Leidner is the only answer at QB this year. But the fan in me would like to see what the freshman can do with this talent. Granted I haven't seen him play a lick, but at least he's touted as a pocket passer. Leidner has set the bar pretty dang low on passing ability, so even as a freshman he could be better than Leidner right now. If there's any time to pull the redshirt status it would be this week, so the kid could get some confidence built up against 2 cupcake teams. Will we see it happen? I doubt it. More than likely Kill will go with the smart decision and see how the season turns out with Leidner leading the way.
  13. Would anyone pull the redshirt status from Croft and see if he can do any better than Leidner?
  14. I'm not sure exactly what Pinto's contract situation is, but if he's eliminated from the C conversation permanently, he's certainly a candidate to be removed from the 40 man this off season, correct?
  15. Only 1 game so far, but the Defense looks like a 10 win team, and the offense looks like a 5 win team with Leidner leading the way. I think it will even out to be a 7-9 win team. A good result by any Gopher team in the last 20-30 years, but missing the QB needed to be Big 10 champion material.
  16. Is there any science behind how you become right or left handed? I'm absolutely right hand dominant, but swing left handed for golf, hockey, and baseball.
  17. I get that. Back to my first point. If Kepler, a more polished prospect than ABW, has concerns on hitting MLB pitching, then ABW, an all or nothing player, currently on a month long slump I should add, is going to be better?
  18. And are we going to ignore the fact that he's slashing .193/.305/.339 over the last month in AA? If there's doubts about Kepler facing MLB pitching, who's a much more polished prospect currently, ABW will be humiliated on the big club.
  19. If that's the case then we need to start a "Pick-up Polanco" and "See ya Santana" ad campaign on TD.
  20. On the 99% club, the hitters are really the only thing of interest. I'm sorry but I'm done with Achter and Tonkin. They haven't proven anything except being AAA, borderline AAAA pitchers. Also hope to see Polanco get more than a cup of coffee to see if he's worth the hype.
  21. 2 bb/9 seems reasonable to me, but your prerogative on that. Can't comment on his pitch selection because I haven't seen him pitch... Can we stop using Aaron Hicks as a benchmark of what could happen to upcoming prospects?? You say Aaron Hicks...... I say Miguel Sano......
  22. Care to elaborate further on your stance that Berrios isn't ready?
  23. Correct me if I'm wrong, but i think there's an open spot already when the Twins DFA'd Fryer...
