    Huh? Hicks was traded by the regime who was fired. Falvey and Levine cleaned up that mess and got what they could... Have you checked out the 1st overall pick in the rule 5 draft's stats? 6.82 ERA and 6.35 FIP in 30 innings. The rule 5 draft is much ado about nothing these days.

    Should be an interesting QB battle post-Leidner. Kind of hoping for a freshman to take the reigns this year. No idea if this is going to be a rebuilding year or if they can potentially contend for a division title.

    Everyone has their vices... Whether it's sports, politics, singing competitions, etc. there needs to be balance and perspective. I'm a believer that entertainment shouldn't affect your mood and how we treat people in daily life. And we all need to remember sports is entertainment.

    I assume Moya also gets added to the 40 this off-season and potentially takes the place of a known name we've followed the last 2-3 years. My prediction? JT Chargois gets the DFA.

    Good luck to JRM. It's baffling how he went from a decent hitting C for the Yankees to not being able to hit at all, even in AAA. Next year he was out of options anyway, so I like the move to clear space for Garver.

    If that's the case, then yeah, that's way too long between pitches. It seems like every year MLB tries to emphasize improving pace of play, but never truly enforce it. EDIT: Also, at first I didn't see Maeda on the Fangraphs' Pace list, but there he is tucked in at #20 with 25 seconds between pitches. So he also works at a slow pace normally.

    Concur 100% with implementing pitch clocks. It works out so smoothly in AAA and AA from the games I've attended. Admittedly I did not watch the game last night as it was past my bedtime, so maybe Maeda was working slower than usual? Fangraphs has a neat feature called Pace Calculator and I hate to break it to everyone, but Maeda is not close to the worst out there.... In fact, the Twins now have 3 pitchers in the top 25 slowest paced SP! Jaime Garcia #12 at 25.7 seconds between pitches, Kyle Gibson #14 at 25.4 seconds, and Jose Berrios #23 at 24.8 seconds.

    JRM would be ideal. Since he's out of options next year and they have to make a decision on him. I doubt the Braves want to take on that decision though.

    And furthermore, Rajai Davis came to the plate in the 8th inning of game 7 batting .121. Hasn't hit a HR since August 30th. Then hit one of the most dramatic game-tying HRs off of the game's best closing pitchers. Playoff baseball is awesome.

    The Twins could lose by 250 runs, it still counts as 1 loss in the record book. They spent 45 days (not including off-days) in first place They have not been under .500 since late April The most amount of games they've been under .500 all year? 2. On April 25th. These are more important than run differential.

    Agreed. Worst case, if they don't feel Polanco, Adrianza, Vielma, etc. can bridge the gap, they could sign someone like Zack Cozart or old friend Eduardo Nunez this off-season to a short-term contract.

    Either/or works for me. Preferably the first option because this team needs legit pitching for multiple years, and they have a blue chip asset (Gordon) to at least start those conversations.

    That could absolutely happen. The Twins could also try building this sustained window of success and 1 out of 10 prospects turn out to be something resulting in 10 years without making the playoffs.

    That doesn't really change year over year in baseball. You could build a super team like the 116 win Seattle Mariners and still find a way to lose. Or you can be an 83 win team like the St. Louis Cardinals, find a hot streak and win it all. I also wouldn't say hoping for flukes. Flukes happen in SSS no matter if we plan for it or not. The MVP could go on a 1-30 cold streak. Or a player with a .150 BA in the regular season could go on a 10-20 tear. That's just the name of the game in playoff baseball.

    When you're living in the world of SSS during the postseason, who's to say an unexpected player couldn't step up to be a solid bullpen piece or a good starter? Last season Brandon Guyer, a waiver wire pickup, made clutch hits and was one of Cleveland's best hitters during the postseason. This season he can't hit the broad side of a barn. Kyle Hendricks for the Cubs was the best pitcher in the postseason.... This year he's mediocre. Anybody and everybody has the potential to look good in a ~40-50 AB sample size. Or a 15-20 inning sample size for pitchers.
