  1. I love sports games. Always have and always will. Unfortunately sports games in recent years have focused more on micro transactions to get more money from people than the actual gameplay. My desire these days is going back in time to games where gameplay mattered and not the pay to win model that EA Sports and 2K implemented. @Danchat I know you’re a Madden 08 gamer. Have you seen the modded version on Reddit?
  2. I was torn on the consoles because Halo was the game I played heavily as a teenager. But my heart was steering towards the PS5 for the controller and backwards capability to play older games. Maybe one day I’ll get that too when it’s easier to acquire. PSA for anyone looking for a PS5 Or Xbox Series X... @ PS5Restocks is a great follow on Twitter to get notifications on stock availability for the true MSRP price.
  3. Really unfortunate news. Good luck to him in his recovery! He’s had a pretty extensive injury history in his professional career so far, no?
  4. There’s one more reason to explore before they cut bait entirely. He could be a potential band aid for the bullpen... Opponents are batting .212 with a .606 OPS facing him the first time. Then it gets really ugly the 2nd (1.015 OPS) and 3rd time (1.145 OPS) through the order.
  5. What’s everyone playing these days? I decided recently to forgo buying the next Gen game consoles and bought a gaming PC to kill 2 birds with one stone... The personal laptop is ready for the Office Space bat treatment. A group of friends and I have started doing a weekly board/card game night as well. Since we’re getting older and finding out yelling at clouds isn’t so bad.
  6. I’m more concerned about him playing through literal pain right now than his growing pains. This dude is a pure hitter and will be a stud 1B for the next 6+ years.
  7. We’re going to read countless articles like this ready to give up on every veteran. For Cruz in particular, there’s an argument to be made that he has more value here mentoring young players and taking competitive PAs compared to the returning prospect. Tampa, Oakland, or insert team name here isn’t going to give up much of anything for him. It’s why he came back last winter after sitting around until late in the winter. Are the Twins really in need of more A ball lottery tickets, or fringe players that need to be added to the 40 man? We recently had a fitting end to a sell off trade in 2018. Fernando Rodney flipped to the A’s for Dakota Chalmers. Boy was that fun having him on the 40 man for a year! And DFA’ing him before he makes his MLB debut.
  8. A fitting end to write the week in review. We finished the softest part of our schedule against Baltimore and KC finishing 7-6. Good luck with the upcoming schedule against NYY and Houston. The Yankees aren’t as scary as they should be due to the baseball’s injury problems. However, that won’t stop us from doing what we do best in 2021; losing in pathetic fashion. Shoemaker is only here because there’s nobody else available in the upper minors ready to go. Thorpe or Smeltzer missing out on another opportunity... Not that I think either of them are starters. Duran will be on the way soon enough, but there’s no guarantee he’s better than Shoemaker right now after 3 starts in AAA coming off his own injury.
  9. Well, get your pitchforks out. Shoemaker is staying in the rotation for now.
  10. At the end of the day Polanco and Kepler didn’t sign outlandish contracts if they ended up as utility and 4th OF roles. Sano’s contract is turning out to be an issue. Especially if his career keeps trending to Chris Carter territory. Buxton and Berrios both signed significant signing bonuses as draft picks and both are confident in gambling on themselves. Berrios due to his durability so far won’t have an issue getting a long term contract in FA. Buxton will end up being the most complex FA negotiation, potentially ever. There hasn’t been a player entering FA with undeniable talent that’s missed 50+% of available games in their career.

    Woo! Worcester

Very cool! Anything else that’s worth noting about the ballpark itself after further review?
  12. How many of these pitchers are on innings limits and a high risk to get shut down by September? I’d like to see some aggressive moves for bullpen arms since they are always the king of SSS. But others like Balazovic, Winder, etc. who are expected to be starters? That may be too aggressive to push them on higher levels and innings.
  13. Because we know Big Mike is good when he’s not suspended. There’s 2 spots to fill regardless, and Falvey’s free agent track record since coming here has been mixed, at best. Cruz and Pineda have been the very good free agent signings. They hit on a couple good relievers (Clippard, Romo, Rodney) got half a season of good from Rich Hill. The others like Lynn, Reed, Bailey, and Odo’s QO have been busts. I see this as a re-tool, not a rebuild situation. Flip some of the expiring contracts for modest returns like Simmons, Robles, Happ, and Shoemaker if he has any value. Extend Big Mike for consistency in the rotation, and try to win in 2022.
  14. Love this post. You laid it out perfectly. Consistent starting pitching is hard to find, and the Twins have a deficit of MLB-ready starting pitching. Duran could get his feet wet this year at TF (plenty of irrelevant innings left this season!), Balazovic could get a few starts in St Paul, Canterino could get a few starts in AA. None of them will be projected for above average MLB value in 2022.
  15. The Twins have now lost 4 of 6 games in the middle of the softest stretch of their schedule.
  16. Yep. And develop pitching very well. I’d love to see it in Minnesota. Still waiting.
  17. When we have a development program like Tampa we can do what they do.
  18. Extend Big Mike to a similar term as the last extension. 2/20-25 and be happy we have a solid mid rotation arm to retool for 2022/23.
  19. We say that, but how often does it really happen? I can think of Aroldis Chapman going back to the Yankees 4 years ago. Who else? Pretty sure we could go back in time and see the same comments for Eduardo Escobar when we weren’t contending in 2018.
  20. I’m old enough to remember when Berrios was praised as a prospect for his work ethic. I don’t have inside knowledge on his life, but I’m pretty sure that’s a lifelong trait in a person. We’ve seen flashes of him being great, pitching flawless games. It wouldn’t surprise me if another tweak in his approach unlocks his full potential as a great pitcher. If we turn things around and contend next year, we would ironically look for someone like Berrios. A rental pitcher who adds solid depth to push a team over the hump in the playoffs.
  21. You hit the nail on the head, Doc. Notice how there isn’t a follow up how to replace Berrios in the rotation next year. Talk about short term thinking, just because the Twins haven’t been good in 2021. Finding someone via trade who could surpass 3 WAR Berrios would possibly require a better set of prospects than the return we get for Berrios. Attempting to replace that in free agency will result in more money and a player closer to 40 years old than 30.
  22. Are you prepared to punt 2022 as well? Who’s going to replace Berrios’ 3 WAR baseline that he provides? If there’s any desire to compete in 2022 he needs to stay.
  23. Heck of a night for Refsnyder! Him making the potential final out would have been the cherry on top. I have zero expectations he’ll keep it up, but his contribution now is needed and appreciated.
  24. Need to go 9-4 at a minimum over the next 13 games. Even then, we might not have enough time to get back into the playoff chase.
