Castro was just an example of a SS that I think could be had. There was a bunch of talk about Castro being on the way out once Baez figured out AAA (He was hitting over .300 before his injury). Now Baez is out 6-8 weeks. Castro probably gets traded this off-season for a SP. As you can tell I have 0 confidence in Stewart, and I'd rather sell him with medium-low value while he appears to be healthy, then when he's hurt (once a month it seems like) and only getting 1-2 K's per game in A ball. If I was GM, I'd be looking to make a move for the future, and not just a rental player for this year. In order for that to happen we need to be able to let go of a couple of prospects. I'm willing to do that, but it appears some people just want to let our farm system do it all. Needs on the Twins: SS - I think we just roll with Polanco for this season, and give him a few months to show what he's got C - I think this is what we need to trade for this year!
-
Cubbies want and need pitching, so that's why I added Alex Meyer. Alex Meyer will be the main name in this trade. I'd trade Alex Meyer, Kohl Stewart (1st round bust I think), and Danny Santanna. If that's not enough, throw in a top 30-40 prospect in our organization. Alex Meyer gives them hope as a 5th Starter, or a dominent RP arm. Kohl Stewart 1st round talent, trade before the word BUST gets any bigger on him, and Danny Santana.
-
So trading Jorge Polanco plus 2 other top 15 prospects for Starlin Castro is a bad idea? Castro is only 25-26 years old. Fit right into our scheme of rebuilding this team. Jorge and Danny could only wish they were as good as Castro. I didn't say trade Jorge for Rollins or Jed. Rollins or Jed, could be 2 guys that TR looks to steal away from those 2 teams for practically nothing. We only do this if we are still in contention at the time, and right now we are.

The Twins need a real SS! I think I'd be looking to trade Jorge Polanco or Danny Santana with 2 more prospects for the likes an MLB ready SS. Terry Ryan type Ideas: Jed Lowrie - Astro's, projected to return in early July. Solid Defense, and a fairly reliable bat Jimmy Rollins - getting old, but him with Hunter could be fun too watch. Dodgers want Seager up! My Ideas: Starlin Castro - Top SS in AL if we did this! Trade Jorge Polanco, Alex Meyer, Travis Harrison, and top 30-40 prospect Travis D'Arnaud - Catcher with some Pop and above average pop! Trade Oswaldo Arcia, Danny Santana, Stephen Golsaves Few Ideas

What would you do if you were the GM?
Vance_Christianson replied to DaveW's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Mid-July Order: 1. Buxton - CF 2. Mauer - 1b 3. Dozier - 2b 4. Hunter - RF 5. Plouffe - 3b 6. Sano - DH also teach him 1b, use him like Vargas 7. Polanco - SS 8. Suzuki - C 9. Rosario - LF Bench: Hicks 4th OF, Escobar Inf Utility, Pinto backup C teach him 1st, Arcia bench bat 5th OF Starters: 1. Kyle Gibson 2. Ervin Santana 3. Trevor May 4. Tommy Milone 5. Phil Hughes Bullpen: Glen Perkins Alex Meyer Lester Oliveros JR Graham Ryan Pressly Logan Darnell - (I think he's a lefty, lol) Casey Fien Trade Candidates: Kennys Vargas - good DH, but with Sano Hunter and Arcia in AAA we don't need him! Danny Santana - need him to bounce back in AAA a little bit Mike Pelfrey - I'd prefer to keep him and not Milone, but I think Pelfrey can get us a better player! Ricky Nolasco - See if we can get 2, 24 packs for him, and everyone can have a beer to salute him off -
Assuming Gonsalves doesn't miss a beat moving up to High-A, how many starts till we start thinking about AA? I know this question is very broad, but I'd really like to see him end the year at AA. My initial thought was around 8-10 solid starts. Curious, but are we going to be moving any AA guys up to AAA soon? I'm sure that nothing will happen till their All-Star break, as they are competing for a playoff spot right now, but I'm curious as too whom we think we'll get to move up.

Dream Trade Target: Aroldis Champman
Vance_Christianson replied to DaveW's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I'd trade Arcia and any RP bullpen arm for Aroldis Chapman! We have 4-5 power arms coming up, so what's 1 arm gone? Arcia has a lot of potential, but he can't stay healthy, and is a defensive liability! -
I wouldn't object to Stauffer being DFA'd and we call up Danny Ortiz to play some RF. He's had a pretty good first 2 months so far at AAA. That would allow us to DH Torii more, and not Escobar or Nunez. That would also allow Arcia and Vargas another 2-3 weeks in AAA to keep working on plate patience, etc. Arcia is 0-11 so far in AAA during his rehab. Vargas can hit the ball, but he has no plate patience, hence why his BB rate is too low.

Rosario, Vargas, Arcia, Santana
Vance_Christianson replied to stringer bell's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
The same tweaks they've been trying to make for 2+ plus seasons while he's hurt every other week. NEXT! I hope he becomes a great player, but he's hampering our 25 man roster with his inconsistency and injuries.- 77 replies

Vance_Christianson replied to stringer bell's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I know Arcia is only 24 years with TONS of upside, but he's been hampering our OF for the past 2+ seasons with his constant Injuries and terrible defense. His bat is average at best for a corner OF. If I was GM this is who I'd put out on the table for trades: Oswaldo Arcia - only 24 years old, but way too many injuries! Kennys Vargas - I think he has some decent upside (power switch hitter) on this roster for 1-2 more years till our AA guys are all ready to go. Mike Pelfrey/Ricky Nolasco/Tommy Milone - I'd dangle all 3 of them out there, and see who gets us the best return. I'd only trade if the value is right. We don't need to give away our SP depth. Danny Santana - His time is up I think. Polanco will be here around July. Good player, just not better than our depth that is on its way up. Josmil Pinto - We don't need 14 DH's and another below average C Everyone is saying we don't have a logjam, etc, but we definitely have 1 at the DH spot right now! I'd give it to Vargas right now for the simple fact that he is a backup 1b and he's a switch hitter. I'd like to see us make a big splashy trade in the next month or so, and I have a hunch that it'll be either for a C or LF. Put Rosario or Hicks as the everyday CF and the other as the 4th OF. I'd say trade either Rosario or Hicks as Buxton will be up as well, but I just don't know when. I'd like to see by July or August for Buxton.- 77 replies

Agree with you 110%! Wouldn't be shocked if Danny Santana goes back to AAA for a couple of weeks either. Vargas back to DH/1b when Mauer needs a break. Rosario back to LF Hunter back to RF Escobar/Santana at SS, quit putting Escobar in LF please! If we need an OF then bring up Danny Ortiz from AAA. 1. Dozier - 2b 2. Hunter - RF 3. Mauer - 1b 4. Plouffe - 3b 5. Vargas - DH 6. Suzuki - C 7. Rosario - LF 8. Hicks - CF 9. Escobar/Santana - SS- 77 replies

I thought I heard somewhere that Sano already has 9 errors this year at 3b? I know that we've been waiting for years for Sano to arrive, but i'm honestly starting to think that he needs to either, A:learn how to play RF, or B:become a full-time DH, and still be able to play 3rd in a pinch. Plouffe is way too valueable to just throw away or trade for another prospect. He's a top 10 3b. I think it'll be a few years before Sano could even think about being in the same position as him, especially at 260 lbs or whatever he's currently at. He has a cannon of an arm, lets start working on him some in AA at RF, and see how it goes. Sano in RF makes our 2016 lineup much stronger! Projection: 1. Buxton - CF 2. Dozier - 2b 3. Mauer - 1b 4. Plouffe - 3b the next Cuddy, he's just entering his prime years 5. Sano - RF 6. Vargas/Arcia - DH 7. Suzuki - C 8. Polanco - SS 9. Hicks - LF Bench: Acia/Vargas (bench bat), Hermann/Pinto (backup C), Escobar (infield utility), Rosario (4th OF)

Realistic trade return ideas
Vance_Christianson replied to blairpaul715's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Players I think TR should consider on trading: Oswaldo Arcia - still very young, but too many injuries with a lot of talent in AA Kennys Vargas - we have a surplus of DH hitters on our team now, plus we have 2-3 more coming up. I see Sano taking over DH duties in the future if we don't trade Sano. Danny Santanna - Polanco will be our SS for sure in 2016 if not this year Mike Pelfrey - Contract is up, and his ERA/Stats are sitting in a good spot to be dealt Dreaming 2015 Trade Dealine Roster: 1. Buxton - CF FUTURE, i'd be shocked if he isn't up by the trade deadline 2. Dozier - 2b excels well in the 2 hole 3. Mauer - 1b future DH possibly once Kepler is ready in 2016 4. Hunter - DH thinking this is his last year, but i'd be happy to have him 1 more year 5. Sano - 3b if he has a good june and july i could see the twins making this move 6. Plouffe - LF I love plouffe in the lineup, best 6 hitter in the pro's 7. Suzuki - C good contact hitter 8. Polanco - SS good contact hitter 9. Hicks/Rosario - RF Whoever has the hot bat, the other will be the 4th OF, late inning sub for Plouffe in LF Bench: Rosario/Hicks, Escobar, Nunez, Hermann/Pinto If we trade youth for stars then this is who i'd like to see: Starlin Castro/Addison Russell Troy Tulowitzki Johnny Cueto Jordan Zimmerman -
Something to think about the next time you guys do 1 of these, maybe put what level each player is in currently? I'm on here a lot, and know where most of them belong, but might be helpful for the casual followers, or new. Thanks!

Article: Twins Outfield Of The Future Begins
Vance_Christianson replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think Arcia gets traded to be honest. He's injured too much, and defense is below average, and we already have 2 DH's then in Hunter and Vargas. -
If Gonsalves powers through another game like he has all year, lets get him up to Ft. Myers I think. I really think if he stays on the path he is right now, he could end up in AA to end the year, and then 2016 he could earn a look along with Berrios as well.

Maybe a change of scenery is what Meyer needs?! Either bring him up with the big club or trade him?! Only 68 pitches does concern me as well, but he did allow 5 runs in 4 innings. I'd probably pull him out as well. I'm guessing he was out there beating himself up. Maybe we trade Alex Meyer for Javier Baez? Both are struggling with their current clubs and change of scenery might just do it for each.

Article: When Is It Time To Take Action?
Vance_Christianson replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Terry Ryan failed the Twins this past off-season with the multiple signings of over 30+ year old signings on a team that needs to be in rebuild mode. We have 3-5 guys in AAA that really should be on our big league club. Of the past off-season signings only Ervin Santana intrigued me as he could get us 15+ wins and a ERA of 3.3 or so. Now that we lost him, I've lost any hope of .500, and 5 years of 90+ losses is underway.- 113 replies

I'm thinking Thorpe will be 2018 now after surgery. Honestly, i'm just upset that we are wasting more days with Meyer in AAA. I understand that control is the main issue, but that's been his issue since he came here for the most part. He's 25 years old, make a decision right now if he's going to be a SP or a RP, and get him up to the majors! If Berrios, Stewart, Gonsalves, Hu, Slegers, Rogers, Jorge, Wheeler etc. can all have above average years, we are going to have a slew of SP prospects, and we now have 3 guys on contracts for 2-3 more years starting 2016 w/ the Twins. I'm thinking that Terry Ryan is pissed at himself for locking up Nolasco and Santana, when he currently has 3-4 guys in AAA and AA that honestly could come and do just as good as anyone else. Ryan forgot that we are rebuilding we he started signing 30+ year old pitchers these last 2 seasons!

If we want May and Meyer to have 1-2 months in AAA, then let it be Hamburger that gets the call as he had a good spring. He can be last years Yohan Pino, who was actually better than a couple of our regular SP's. #alwaysnextyear

Can we trade Meyer/May, Gonsalves, Escobar, Kepler/Harrison for TULOWITZKI?! ELITE lineup after trade: 1. Buxton - cf 2. Dozier - 2b 3. Tulo - SS 4. Sano - 3b 5. Vargas - DH 6. Mauer - 1b 7. Arcia - RF 8. Suzuki/Pinto - C 9. Rosario - RF -
Kohl Stewart is confident
Vance_Christianson replied to gunnarthor's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Realistically Kohl had a great first full year of pro ball. I think having 1 year under his belt now, he's going to come in and attack! I think we are looking at another Berrios type jump in levels with Kohl this year! Twins prospects are looking great, too bad we filled our MLB Roster with Veteran Garbage, or 3-4 guys who all play the same position. My gut tells me that our Roster is going to look a lot different after this years trade deadline. -
I personally would much rather see Rosario is CF with the Twins now! Schaefer and Robinson offer 0 upside. Both are 4th - 5th OF's, not starters. I think Rosario would adapt to CF just find by opening day, and i think his bat projects as a #2 in the order once he's got some time in. Great contact hitter. Hicks reminds me so much of Gomez. You can see all of the potential, but it's never together!!!! I would absolutely love to see Hicks resurrect himself at AAA!

Carlos Rodon - you're going to hate this guy
Vance_Christianson replied to gunnarthor's topic in Other Baseball
Correa is still in big league camp. Houston isn't afraid to bring up their prospects to early. Hence what the Astros did last year with their youth. Correa in the pro's wouldn't surprise me 1 bit.
