To trade or not to trade Plouffe this offseason.
Vance_Christianson replied to gopherman23's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I said almost the exact same thing in another blog 4-6 weeks ago. Plouffe becomes our Utility player, and allows rest for 1b, 3b, and OF. He allows our starters to rest without hurting the lineup! When he isn't playing a position he can be the DH that day. I think Suzuki and Pinto will do good enough 1 more year until Turner is ready, and who knows, maybe Turner goes to AFL and really blossoms like Rosario did. Kepler, ABW, Polanco, Michael, and Harrison will probably all go to AAA next season. Vargas moves up to the 25 man next year and DH's 2-3 times a week and provides a nice bench bat. Arcia needs to be traded! No room him. We don't need 5 DH's! 2016 Positional Players: 1. Buxton - CF 2. Rosario - LF 3. Mauer - 1b 4. Sano - 3b 5. Dozier - 2b 6. Plouffe - DH/Utility - he could sub at 3b/1b/OF and then insert Vargas on those days at DH 7. Hicks - RF 8. Escobar - SS 9. Suzuki - C Bench: Santana, Pinto, Vargas, Hunter (assuming we resign him) otherwise Shane Robinson/Nunez -
Berrios Dominates Again... Call Him Up!
Vance_Christianson replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I was telling a buddy of mine a month ago that Gibson seems like he hit a wall, and his stats are showing that as well. Gibby went from being so consistent, a guy we could very much count on for a quality start, to now he's throwing a quality start 50% of the time. Lets give Gibby 2 starts off and let him rest. Insert our boy JO! -
Do any of our Single A starters get bumped here at the end of the Season to help out AA with their starting pitching? AA starters have kind of been all over the place this season. Just a thought.......

Plouffe would strictly be a super utility type player for us next year. He can give the 3 musketeers a day off once in awhile, Sano, and Mauer, and it won't affect our lineup for once, and when he isn't doing that then he can play DH. Injuries happen, so why not keep some good depth like Plouffe. Good attitude, hard worker, great clubhouse guy, sweet beard, hot wife, etc.... I'd spend $6mil or so a year on him no problem. Do it for just 2016, and by then guys like Kepler, Walker, Michael, Harrison should be really close or ready to go in 2017. I'd rather have Plouffe as my DH/Utility anyday over Arcia, Vargas, Pinto, and Hunter. Just my 2 cents.
-
I think our 4th OF should be Plouffe next year. He can play LF/RF (whichever he likes most), 3b (giving Sano a day off once in awhile), 1b (giving Joe a day off once a week), and be our primary DH. I just don't think Arcia will ever have a higher ceiling than Plouffe. Funny how much love Arcia has from us Minnesota Fans, but Hicks just got obliterated on here for 2+ years. Now Hicks is playing the best ball of his life the last 6 weeks or so, and Arcia couldn't hit water if he fell out of a boat in AAA, but yet everyone still thinks Arcia deserves a spot, etc. I agree that we roll with Rosario (LF), Buxton (CF), and Hicks (RF), and that our 4th OF should be a thumper (play mostly DH and act as a 4th OF). The 3 musketeers can sub for each other, put the thumper (Plouffe, like I mentioned above) wherever he feels best whether that be LF or RF.

Aaron Hicks and the platoon
Vance_Christianson replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I wonder how many of those PA's Kepler was injured and still playing anyways (the past couple years it seemed like he always had lingering injuries), but I guess that can be said for anyone. I think 60/40 will lean towards Kepler having the higher ceiling (myself included) because of this speed, athletic ability, and he's 6-4 240lbs. I personally look at him being our next Justin Morneau, just with a little more athletic ability n speed. Regardless, I think Rosario and Kepler will both have good to great MLB careers! The Twins talent is starting to arrive, and the Farm System appears to be doing their job in developing these young studs! -
Aaron Hicks and the platoon
Vance_Christianson replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I would hold onto all 4, Buxton, Hicks, Rosario, and Kepler!!!! All 4 can play all 3 OF spots!!! Depth!!! I'd be trading guys like Arcia, Harrison, Plouffe, Vargas, etc. 2016 25 Man Roster by July 1st (I think Kepler starts in AAA and comes up July 1st): 1. Buxton - CF assuming he can figure out off speed MLB pitching 2. Hicks - RF assuming he can keep hitting .275+ and taking walks 3. Dozier - 2b 4. Sano - 3b 5. Mauer - 1b/DH 6. Hunter - DH I think we'll resign him next year, but I could see Vargas taking over DH by then 7. Kepler - LF/1b 3-4 games a week in LF, n then 1 game a week at 1b to rest Mauer 8. catcher we add through trade from trading Plouffe and something else 9. Polanco - SS Bench: Escobar or Nunez (1 will not be here), Rosario (plays LF n RF 1 time each a week n maybe DH 1 game), Arcia or Vargas as PH/DH (I don't think both will be here, and i think the twins like Vargas more), Suzuki The reason I start Kepler, Buxton, and Hicks over Rosario is simple. Plate discipline. Assuming Buxton and Kepler follow their same MILB career stats they should develop discipline. This will be the deepest 13 man bench I think I will have ever seen for the Twins, and AAA will have lots of depth for us as well with Harrison, Danny Ortiz, Beresford, Santana, Walker, etc. -
Mauer to the OF is ludacris I think. We already have a surplus of OF's between AA and the 25 man roster. Only OF I could see him being better than is Arcia. He is avg-above avg defensively at 1b. Put up with Mauer at 1b for the next 3 years. I'm sure he'll get injured along the way, and our youth will out perform him, and he'll move to DH/backup 1b. 2015 Batting Order moving forward: 1. Hicks - CF 2. Dozier - 2b 3. Sano - DH/3b 4. Plouffe - 3b/1b 5. Mauer - 1b/DH 6. Hunter - RF/DH 7. Rosario - LF/RF 8. Suzuki - C 9. Escobar/Nunez - SS Twins main problem right now is that they need a #3 hitter! Plouffe and Dozier are good, but they don't always make a ton of contact on a daily basis. Streaky hitters. Mauer of old (currently dreaming) rarely had back to back games of no hits, and always got walks. I'm not on the Arcia and Vargas plane. I do think there's potential "possibly," but we already have enough DH's!

Twins Acquire Kevin Jepsen From Rays
Vance_Christianson replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Not that impressed for the fact we just gave up a top SP arm in our system for a 31 year old BP guy whose K rate isn't all that great. Thankfully we have quite a few top SP arms in our system in the High A to AAA. Hopefully worth the gamble. Hmm....Ugh...... -
I said on Twitter to Brandon Warne, Seth Stohs, and Jeremy Nygaard about a week ago that we need to shut Alex Meyer down, and send him to Fort Myers to get some 1 on 1 coaching. Brandon didn't agree with me, but I'm happy to see I'm not the only Rube with this idea. Meyer is doing nothing in AAA right now, except losing games, or putting games even more out of hand. Sad to see.... I'd love to get Shields and Benoit for Stewart/Arcia/Nolasco/PTBNL
-
At this point I'd be shocked if we make any moves other than in house moves. I'd like to see Polanco give us a little boost of excitement, and maybe we need to just put his errors aside and let him play out at SS. Polanco can flat out hit, a lot like Rosario. Quick stick at the plate. Turner will be a September callup, and if he can finish out the next 5 weeks like he's been playing for the month of July I think he'll push Suzuki aside. Anybody remember when we beat out the Tigers for the division in the last 6 weeks and 9 games back?! I personally think that our inhouse moves would be as good as making a minor trade at this point, so we might as well see what we have. Duffey and Achter to BP, Pelfrey to BP, May stays in BP, and Berrios to SP. This gives us 3 new faces and arms in the BP who can't possibly be any worse, and May is okay in the Pen, and Berrios is a student of the game. I think we should be dangeling Arcia out there, and see if we can get a great 8th inning BP arm that is signed through 2016 at least. If we need to add 1 other mid range prospect lets do it.
-
Boyer and Fien are out of time! I don't think they could even strike me out. Ha! Duensing can chew up some innings in games that are already decided. He's actually pitched okay as of late. I love that we moved Meyer to the BP, but he hasn't been able to harness this role either. Is Meyer hiding an injury possibly? I like Oliveros, but he can't stay healthy. I agree with pretty much everyone in this thread, that we need to go get a guy who can strike people out. Locked down the 8th and 9th inning. Once we get that figured, I think that'll motivate the other 5 guys in our Bullpen as well. Nobody has a role really except for Perkins, and I think it's starting to show its true colors.

Examining The Shortstop Options
Vance_Christianson replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The Twins are rebuilding, so no need to rent a player! Trade your prospects for Stars/Proven numbers that have at least 1+ years remaining after this year, or Escobar/Nunez take over. NO RENTALS unless we give them practically nothing in return! Having fun watching them contend now, really can't wait till 2016!!!!!!!!!- 119 replies

Examining The Shortstop Options
Vance_Christianson replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If we are going to make a trade for SS, then I say lets do it and make a splash! TULOWITZKI!!!!! Trade: Kohl Stewart, Jorge Polanco, Oswaldo Arcia, Taylor Rogers By us getting Tulo for 5 years, he can play SS for the next 2+ years till Nick Gordon is ready than he can move over to 3b. Batting Lineup: 1. Dozier - 2b 2. Mauer - 1b 3. Tulo - SS 4. Sano - DH 5. Plouffe - 3b 6. Hunter - RF 7. Rosario - LF 8. Hicks - CF 9. Suzuki - C By us adding Tulowitzki, I think that he'll be enough to give us that extra push to get into the playoffs and catch the Royals! I'm fine with giving up 3-4 prospects as long as it isn't renting a player for a few months. In this case, it's for 5 years.- 119 replies

I Believe in Stephen Vogt
Vance_Christianson replied to notoriousgod71's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Twins need 3 things in order to stay in the top 6 in the AL: SS BP C I think that the A's are a good fit for us, as we could get Kazmir and Clippard. Here's how I'd project us after these moves. SP: Ervin Santana, Phil Hughes, Kyle Gibson, Scott Kazmir, and Tommy Milone RP: Glen Perkins, Tyler Clippard, Mike Pelfrey, Trevor May, Ryan O'Rourke, JR Graham, Casey Fien We'd Get: Scott Kazmir and Tyler Clippard We'd Trade: Alex Meyer (change of scenary might be good), Nick Gordon (playing good in Low A, long ways to go), Levi Michael (never start as long Dozier is here), and ABW (lots of strikeouts but lots of power), and if we need throw a Player to be named later. I'd only deal 4-5 prospects though if we can get Kazmir to sign a 2 year deal with us for $20-25 million total. -
I think it all comes down to this for the Twins. Do we keep Plouffe, or do we keep Arcia?! We keep Plouffe, then Sano is DH and plays 1-2 games at 3b a week, Plouffe plays 3b and 1b, and Mauer plays 1b and DH 1-2 games a week. We keep Arcia, then Sano is full time 3b, and Hunter and Arcia rotate RF and DH, and Mauer will DH 1-2 games a week, so Sano will have to cover 1b during those days, and Nunez will play 3b then. After looking at those scenario's, I'm more in favor of keeping Plouffe I think, but to me it's a coin flip, because Arcia has the higher ceiling, but his attitude is a problem and really affects his play.

Are The Twins Buyers Or Sellers?
Vance_Christianson replied to Brandon Warne's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I say we roll with Suzuki and Fryer for the rest of this year, and Pinto can gather himself in AAA, great, then that gives us 3 catchers. I personally think that adding a SS and an 8th inning guy who can strike batters out is more important. SS Targets: Tulo - we'd have to probably part with Buxton, Sano, or Berrios plus 2-3 other players, not sure i'm ready to sell the house yet, but Tulo would look great on our squad!!!! I feel like a Gonsalves or Hu, Polanco, Walker, and something top 30 prospect player. Castro - He's a buy low guy right now i think, not sure he's much better then Escobar currently Jed Lawrie - He'll be returning from injury in the next 2-3 weeks i think, and we could buy him low Just a few ideas........... assuming we trade for Tulo here's our 2016 Lineup: 1. Buxton - CF 2. Dozier - 2b 3. Tulowitzki - SS 4. Sano - DH/3b 5. Mauer - 1b/DH 6. Plouffe - 3b/1b 7. Rosario - LF 8. Hicks/Arcia - RF 9. Suzuki/Fryer/Pinto - C I'm drooling right now..........- 87 replies

If Pelfrey is not the odd-man out, than shame on us. Pathetic! He provides nothing for the future, and contract is up and the end of the year. Milone is 28 years old, a Lefty, and providing some excellent innings for us! Stats don't lie people. Milone is a perfect #4 guy in the rotation! Rotation Should Be: Ervin Santana Kyle Gibson Phil Hughes Tommy Milone Trevor May If it's not that, pathetic! Aaron Thompson is the odd man out, and Pelfrey should go to the bullpen in case of injuries, or we trade him (and 1-2 other players) for a catcher!
-
I really think it's time to start making some moves again within the affiliates. Danny Ortiz to Twins, quit playing Escobar and Robinson please!!! Escobar at SS only! Robinson is a 4th OF or a pinch runner! Sano to Twins, DH and play 3rd 1-2 times a week, Vargas back to AAA or trade Kepler to Rochester, september callup Walker to Rochester, september callup Polanco to Twins, everyday SS, Santana back to AAA or trade asap Twins need to release Aaron Thompson bring up Achter, Oliveros, or Darnell Twins should consider trading: Oswaldo Arcia, hope he can slowly rebound down in AAA in the next week or 2 Danny Santana, package him in with somebody Mike Pelfrey, reality is coming back, contract up after the year Kennys Vargas, we don't need 4-5 guys to play DH, odd man out with some value Brian Duensing, package him as well, everyone likes a lefty bullpen arm If the right player comes along throw in 1-2 top 15 prospects as well.

Twins Place Byron Buxton On DL
Vance_Christianson replied to Parker Hageman's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Insert Danny Santana to CF please, and not Shane Robinson (better late inning defensive sub or pinch runner or 4th OF), or Eduardo Escobar! I'd prefer to see none of these 3 starting in CF, but with Hicks and Buxton on the DL, queue up 1 of the 3. When will Danny Ortiz ever get his shot?! He's killing AAA, and Santana is only batting .267. -
Neither should be the Twins Future SS IMO. Santana is having some plate issues, and average defense. Polanco is avg-above avg offense with terrible defense. I'd be looking to trade 1 or the other along with Pelfrey and another prospect for a proven SS! We can't keep changing our SS every other game, and different batting lineups every other game. Consistency wins, and since the injury bug hit us about a month ago, our record has showed us just that. If we don't trade for a SS, then bring up Polanco, and lets roll with him as our "everyday" SS!!!

TD Midseason Top Prospects: #10 Alex Meyer
Vance_Christianson replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Bring him up with Ervin on July 4th! That's assuming all is still going well in AAA. Before we know it, Meyer will get hurt, need surgery, out the rest of this year, rehab beginning of next year, then we'll try him as a starter again, and waste 3 -6 months again, and then he'll 35 by the time he makes it up to the Twins. HA!!!! -
The only Starting Pitcher the Twins should look at trading is Michael Pelfrey! We need to be looking at teams that are trying to boost their #4 and #5 Starting Pitchers. List of some Teams to possibly target: Cubs Blue Jays Dodgers Giants Current Holes on Twins: Catcher Shortstop DH

Molitor: Sano could be called up soon
Vance_Christianson replied to howeda7's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Proposal: Mauer to the DL (7 Day), clear his head, and he has to be having some sort of nagging injury or concussion symptoms. Plain and simple, he's not playing Mauer baseball right now! So with moving Mauer to the DL, we then slide Plouffe over to 1b, and then insert Sano at 3b over our NL Road Trip. Batting Order with Mauer on DL: 1. Buxton - CF 2. Hunter - RF 3. Dozier - 2b 4. Plouffe - 1b 5. Sano - 3b 6. Rosario - LF 7. Vargas - DH if we are playing NL then obviously no DH 8. Suzuki - C 9. Escobar/Nunez - SS Batting Order then with Mauer: 1. Buxton - CF 2. Hunter - RF 3. Dozier - 2b 4. Plouffe - 3b/1b 2 games a week at 1b 5. Sano - DH/3b 2 games a week at 3b 6. Mauer - 1b/DH 2 games a week at DH, he needs to move down the order! Less Pressure for a bit 7. Rosario - LF 8. Suzuki - C 9. Escobar/Nunez - SS
