  1. I think the biggest problem with Santana is he can't field any position well, nor can he hit. I have faith that Arcia, if given he chance somewhere, can at least DH against righties and be productive. A team's backup CF shouldn't be an IF who can't hold down an IF job.
  2. My favorite part is when it's pointed out that even if Arcia goes somewhere, figures it out, and does well, it still won't make the decision the wrong one. Like the Hughes and Suzuki extensions were the right moves at the time, and even though they didn't work out (predictable as could be), neither of those moves showed the FO to be wrong either. This team has been very bad for a long time, both in performance and construction, yet it always amazes me how so many of their moves are the right ones. How can a team that makes so many correct moves be bad for so long? Worst team in baseball right now, in case anyone forgot.
  3. I'd argue that the learning part should be in the minors, but yeah. In any event, the epitome of this is Rosario, who, somehow, is apparently is 'more deserving' than Arcia, even though he takes horrendous at bats, can't get on base, and makes bonehead decision after bonehead decision.. BTW, Santana was, arguably, the worst player in baseball last year and isn't worth anything on this roster, unless you count being able to play poor defense at several positions while being a black hole on offense. Also, this article seems redundant. Seth already wrote an article defending this decision in his article announcing the move, though this one has the added chastising of fans who have a problem with it, which is fun. I can't imagine the comments being much different. An unneeded redundancy.
  4. But he's also 5 years younger than Park and if used as a DH versus RHP (as opposed to Park under .720), he carries an OPS near .800. Most pitchers are righties. I've never been sold on Park, thought it was a bad move to get him based on how our roster was constructed. Not one thing has changed my mind. In fact, this season has re-enforced every reason why I had an issue with his signing all along.
  5. Because a 30 year old who can't get on base at even a 30% clip is better for our future than a 25 year old who still has room for growth. or something like that. Could also be ticket sales, or the ability to spell Mauer at base bcause he's got a 1B mitt (not because he can play it well). Of course, if Park got sent down (or traded) our hitting jewel (Sano) could play his best position, DH, when he got back while Arcia could fill in until then.
  6. The Royals and Rays could use a DH. They may even be smart enough to platoon him as a DH.
  7. loved it. stayed there for quite some time, and went back when I retired. but, alas, gone for good now.
  8. For awhile, the record heat for one day in Saudi and the record heat for one day in Iraq was during the time frame I was in each one of them. That's not the case any more. Qatar, however, I was there during it's hottest day ever. And I've been in colds as low as -60s wind chill (in the -30s with around 20 MPH windl) as well. In fact, my first winter in North Dakota, after growing up in California and having spent the previous 5 years in Panama, was when I first experienced that. I had been in North Dakota for a whopping two weeks when that happened.
  9. I moved a bit West last summer. Not all the way to California or anything, but still. This past 'winter' I never wore anything more than a hoodie. I got cold once, and that was from standing outside waiting to gain access to the flightline for 1/2 hour or so...so I put on my knit cap and light gloves and was fine.
  10. I'd be happy to consistently live with the temp in mid 70s. Even better the 60s.
  11. Lat year,Rosario had an unsustainable amount of triples that inflated his slg% which inflated his OPS. he got on base less than 29% of the time. Not sure that showed us he could really be a good offensive corner OF in the majors. Getting on base so seldomly. along with all his mental mistakes in the field, is hard to swallow.
  12. For the ERA stat fans: Our pitching staff is dead last in the AL for ERA, and #14 really isn't close. #14 sits at 4.62, we are at 5.17. Our cracker staff rotation that had so many ML quality pitchers that we couldn't put May in the rotation has an ERA of 5.55. Our relief staff that barely got help in the offseason has an ERA of 4.58. Are there still people who believe this is a well constructed 40 man roster? Oh, and GO TWINS!
  13. I drove the autobahn every day to and from work at a speed of 130-140 mph. No speed limit on that stretch.
  14. Did that happen when he got hit?
  15. I'm guessing they will keep Nunez for next year, he'll go back to being what he's always been, and any trade value he may have built up will be gone.
  16. I really need to remember to put smiley faces up after ever joke I make...
  17. probably be a good idea to read why. it's why I posted the article.
  18. http://www.foxsports.com/mlb/story/how-los-angeles-angels-hooked-rookie-phenom-mike-trout-in-mlb-draft-051212 Well, Trout was highly regarded by a few teams...
  19. I'm sorry. I find it hilarious that Wright is being pulled.
