    I hope Stephen Gonsalves plays well enough to force the Twins' hand and gets called up next season. Hopefully May can be healthy enough to compete too.

    No, Fangraphs has the Twins DRS at 10th, not 19th. I have sorted it by DRS to make it easier: http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=fld&lg=all&qual=0&type=1&season=2017&month=0&season1=2017&ind=0&team=0,ts&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&sort=8,d I will agree that Buxton's supreme defensive greatness makes the team's defensive stats look better than the team's defense is, but four of our regular eight starters had a positive DRS.

    So I was looking at the defensive numbers for 3Bs who had 650 or more innings played. I used that amount of innings played cause it gave me 26 3Bs to look at. What I found interesting was the comparison of Sano and Escobar. -They played pretty much the same amount of innings at 3B (high 600 innings). -They made exactly the same amount of plays. -They each had -5 DRS (which ranked them tied for 19th, both likely would have been worse lower if either had played a normal amount of innings for a starting 3B) -They had almost exactly the same UZR (-1.0 for Sano, -1.2 for Escobar). -Escobar had more range, but still very poor range (20th ranked RZR for Escobar, 25th for Sano). As a team we ranked 18th in UZR at 3B,tied for 24th in DRS, and 29th in RZR (range).

    We didn't have one SP with an fWAR of 3.0 or higher. We had only two SPS with a fWAR over 2.0. Our 3rd highest fWAR for an SP was 1.1

    Fangraphs had Cashner at fWAR 1.9, probably due to a FIP of 4.61

    Mauer was 1st in UZR for MLB 1B and 6th in DRS for MLB 1B (only 6th due to innings). His performance at 1B was much better than 'Good' Twins finished 8th in UZR and 10th in DRS. And Sano optimal position has always been DH.

    Matt Vasgerian is like Harold Reynolds. He wants to go back to the 70s and have baseball talked about and played like it was then. Also, he likely doesn't know what devolve means. Someone likely had to look that word up for him. That guy isn't exactly what one would call intelligent :-) In any event, the rule about check swing is pretty open to interpretation from the umpire. It's not like fair or foul, out or safe.

    Ervin Santana was better last year than this year. His defense was better this year making him look better.

Well, unfortunately, they didn't make it past the one game wild card (one game, should be a best of three). Anyway, I don't want the Yankees, Dodgers or Nats. My preference is Cleveland first or the Astros second.

    To be more competent they had to be competent first :-) The overall pitching staff was 11th out of 15 AL teams in FIP and WAR. The rotation was 10th out of 15 AL teams in FIP and WAR and 12th in IP. The bullpen was 11th out of 15 AL teams in FIP and 13th in WAR.

    I think many wanted Paul gone before this game for a myriad of reasons they thought were good reasons. I think he's done a good job and should be brought back.

    Rosario's decision to throw the ball the 3B was smart. He was close and Judge would have been out with a decent throw.

    That's the difference between the announcers (not ESPN announcers though) saying that was a dumb rookie decision by Judge to try and get to 3B to the announcers praising Judge's decision.
