  1. By the way, of the 16 members on the committee that selected Morris and Trammel, 6 were former players (all in the HOF).
  2. Wait, Castro was a big signing? Anyway, when I say the big dogs eat first, I meant when it comes to the quality of players. I cant imagine we get a player like Darvish. It never even occured to me we would get Ohtani. We shop in the Cobb/Lynn type bins. They arent exactly top notch guys, but those guys we can afford to overpay to get while still not being too big of a contract by todays standards.
  3. I just read Paul Swydans article. Does he even say the word WAR (other than mentioning JAWS once)? Im sorry, but I read it and not sure how you came to think his conclusion was what you said. I do think he is sayng there should be high standards and some consistency. He had a problem with Morgans letter. He has a problem with all ballot not being public. Now he does say he likes a place called Hall of Stats, which certainly has WAR in it, but that is different than saying WAR should decide who gets in the Hall of Fame. I guess after reading the article I dont find that he is saying what you say he is saying. And even if he is,its just a guys opinion, not the opinion of everyone who values the WAR stat
  4. I keep hearing/reading people slam WAR as to why Morris wasnt making it in before. There are sooooo many old school reasons you can point to to explain why he didnt make it. No need to even mention WAR. Like, for examples, for his career his ERA was only 5% better than league average. ERA is pretty old school. Or his low K/9 ration and his high BB/9 ratio. Or never winning a CY. All old school reasoning. And,lets face it, the first 5 or so years on the ballot, newer things like WAR were barely mentioned, much less being used as some kind of barometer for HOF worthiness or individual season awards worthiness. Pretty sure Fangraphs was the first site to have a WAR stat and Fangraphs itself wasnt even in existence until Morris had been on the ballot for like 3 years.
  5. I don't think Morris deserves it either, but I still congratulate him anyway. Wish Whitaker had made the ballot and got it with his double play partner.
  6. Along with Alan Trammel. Congrats to them both.
  7. We are going to get scraps. That's what we do. The big dogs eat first.
  8. Guzman is a decent prospect and Starlin Castro will probably be flipped. Marlins werent going to get a lot for Stanton when only absorbing 30M of his monster contract.
  9. Congratulations.
  10. I kind of wish the Twins would have kept out of the Ohtani situation altogether, while so many others were pushing hard, and let Darvish know their primary focus was HIM!
  11. Well, IMO, Stanton to the Yankees didn't make sense. So who knows. Maybe it takes them out of the Harper sweepstakes, but Machado is likely still a target.
  12. Jeter continues to help the Yankees.
  13. Problem with bigger rotations is that it means weaker SPs get innings that better SPs should have.
  14. Why are we bringing up Ryan in this? This is about the new front office. Ryan is gone. No need to slam Ryan OR preemptively defend him either.
  15. Roy Moore was asked when the last time America was great, and he pointed to a time in our history when there was still slavery. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/roy-moore-america-was-great-during-slavery/ar-BBGnmaH?li=BBnb7Kz 'At a campaign event earlier this year, an audience member asked Moore for his opinion on when the last time America was "great." Moore responded: "I think it was great at the time when families were united—even though we had slavery—they cared for one another…. Our families were strong, our country had a direction." The individual who asked the question was among the only African-Americans in attendance at the rally. In stating this, Moore seemingly implied he'd be able to overlook the enslavement of other human beings as long as families are "united," an interesting perspective from a man accused of repeatedly preying on young girls.'
  16. it won't happen. they are waiting for Harper and/or Machado.
  17. Nick says he didn't mean it the way it came off to at least some of us, and I believe him. And, honestly, I like a lot of what this FO has done. For me, it's a welcome change in FO ways. So I wasn't really offended. I just worry those kind of statements hurt overall conversation (which, again, I don't think Nick intended after he made his clarifying post) which is why I pointed it out.
  18. Yeah, I don't agree. Our team didn't play well enough in the first four months to consider too many teams a cakewalk. We were 9th in the AL in scoring and last in pitching. But hey, people have different opinions. It's fun.
  19. The fact that the they were surprised the team ended up going on that run after playing sub.500 ball over the previous two months, doesn't mean that, at the deadline, they made the wrong call (or that they themselves even think they did).
  20. IMO, MLB gives too much credit for guys closer to the majors.
  21. Yeah, I didn't want them buying at the deadline. I thought they should have clearly been in sell mode. Just cause they ended up going on a really good run while teams ahead of them ended up crashing doesn't change that opinion. At the deadline, with like a 5% chance of making the playoffs, buying would have been a mistake. Also, no one knows if getting help would have made things better or worse. They made the moves they did and we ended up bucking the odds and getting in.
  22. I've liked Kiley and I also think Longerhagens is very good. MLB's prospect listing is the one I look at the least.
  23. Oops, you said a bad word :-)
