  1. yeah, I think they have better OF defense. We were last in DRS, by a good margin, last year and we added Hunter which isn't going to make it any better.
  2. I predict to finish 70-92. I predict a bounceback season for Mauer with w wRC+ in the 130s. I predict D. Santana regresses but still provides league average offense. I predict Milone gets beat like a drum as does Nolasco. I predict E Santana has a season ERA over 4.25. I predict Dozier continues to improve, with no regression. I predict Plouffe's defense stays as good as it was last year. I predict Suzuki to have his OPS in the mid-low 600s. I predict our rotation to finish bottom 5 in ERA. I predict our OF defense ranks last in the majors. Unless Buxton and Rosario get called up to man spots for a decent amount of time, which I don't predict.
  3. We have a lot of regression candidates (Santana, Hughes, Escobar and maybe some slight regression from Dozier and Plouffe). Their regression would not be in the positive. Is there anyone other than Mauer we actually expect a much better performance than what we saw in 2014 (and some don't think that)?
  4. Not to mention one (Gomez) didn't even make his MLB debut with us :-) And the names brought up earlier (Santana, Hicks, Vargas, Gibson) were brought up as examples of people who were fast-tracked. So if THAT is what we call fast-tracking.
  5. You think so? How many of those guys mentioned were 21/22 when they debuted? The years in the minors I gave weren't from when they were signed, it's from when they debuted on the field. Most started at 17/18. I'm not sure I'd call it fast for all those guys. Some of those guys spent 2-3+ years in rookie ball alone.
  6. How many years in the minors constitutes fast tracking? Slow tracking? Normal tracking? Before getting promoted to MLB: Vargas 6 years in the minors. Hicks 5. Danny Santana 7. Arcia 5. Rosario 5 years and still not promoted (though there's been some suspensions). Are we going to call this fast-tracking? Study came out a couple years ago that stated the Twins were the slowest to promote their players of all MLB teams. 'The result is that some teams develop a reputation for especially aggressive or conservative tendencies in promoting their players. When I asked Kevin Goldstein to name an organization known for being conservative in this respect, he immediately mentioned the Twins, confirming my own impression.' If that trend is changing, may take awhile to break the perception.
  7. Not that it matters, but Fangraphs lists our CF position as 29th out of 30. Of course, they didn't see the Shane Robinson part coming and they envisioned Hicks as the guy starting out, but I'm not sure the ranking would change in the positive with the switch-up. Only the Braves with Upton/Young Jr project worse.
  8. Our catcher is the same, our 1B is the same, our DH is the same, our 2B is the same, our 3B is the same, our shortstop is the guy we had in CF and the shortstop who played pretty well is on the bench. Our OF has new people in two spots: an almost 40 year old with bad defense and platoon of journeymen in CF. Our rotation s loaded with 4 of the guys we had last year. This team is not much different than last year. Not sure how the starting position players, as a group, could be considered any better than last year.
  9. Even if one hasn't bought into all the hype, I still don't think it's a bad thing to want to see the youngsters play. I think it's fair to questions whether or not Meyer is truly ace material, or even #2 or #3 material, if at 25, he still can't earn a spot on this rotation. Same thing for May (though May has been less touted). Bright side is, we can keep bragging about how good our farm system is and can be safe in the idea Mauer's contract will be off the books well before any of these studs in waiting are due a significant pay raise.
  10. Apparently plenty of people care. Some feel that when enduring lost and supposedly rebuilding seasons (such as last year and this year), that with having such a highly touted farm system, now is the perfect time to give some younger (and in Meyer's and May's cases, not so young) players time to see what they have.
  11. I like what Cleveland did with it's rotation options. So many options. No room for Salazar yet (though I might have gone with Salazar over McAllister) but Kluber, Carrasco, Bauer, McAllister and House is a fine rotation with Tomlin and Salazar waiting in the wings.
  12. People were clamoring for the Twins to fire Ryan because of the playoffs? That's news to me. I remember people clamoring for Gardy to be fired for his team's postseason record. What happens in a postseason tournament is fun and I like W Series championships as much as the next person, but I'm not sure I've ever clamored for Ryan's removal, certainly not for postseason tournament results. Beane was an innovator, he's aggressive. He's not afraid to take chances. I'll take him over Sabean which is what the discussion was about.
  13. I've not heard any of this, to be honest, in regards to being serious offers. Speculation maybe on the first part, and like you I haven't heard the part about Hicks at all. And I'm not sure what any of it has to do with Upton.
  14. Julio Teheran? Is that the Braves pitcher who just turned 24 and has two full years of starting under his belt already? I thought he was a myth. :-)
  15. In fairness, I believe the Fangraphs 'predictions' you talk about are actually ZiPS PROJECTIONS posted there. Those are based on what players are expected to do, but they know players will do better or worse and they can't account for sequencing. I've chatted with a few of the writers there and none of the ones I talked to actually expect them to win 75 games.
  16. Borderline embarrassing? Defensively it will be extremely embarrassing like it was last year.
  17. Most everyone? That's not what I was reading well before I ever posted. Seems many people who spend a lot of time singing Ryan's praises were saying they were no farther along than we were. Anyone else who has posted here for quite some times see the same thing? Obviously mike has. And, you know, on other sites as well.
  18. fair enough. thanks for the correction. either way, he's already been around for a guy who is supposedly so good based on ERA and win/loss. if he was so good/valuable, I doubt he's on team #3 before hitting his first arbitration year (based on super two), traded for Sam Fuld and fighting for a #5 spot on a bad rotation.
  19. The best Beane could get for Milone last year was Fuld. Then he predictably stunk up the joint with us. Not sure he can be traded unless he just dominates (which he doesn;t have the talent to do) because it really hasn't been that long since Fuld was the trade value for Milone and GM isn't going to be fooled by a couple outings. As far as Pelfrey goes, 'continues to perform'? He's been bad for a few years now, nobody is going to want him if he continues to perform how he's been performing. BTW, how much time in the majors does a guy have to be to be considered a veteran? Milone hasn't even reached arbitration yet. He hasn't reached 100 starts yet. Is he a veteran?
  20. That includes pitchers like Colon and some of those guys at 28.5 have been in the majors for many years, like King Felix. I think the age discussion has more to do with rookies. What's the average age of a pitcher that loses his rookie status? How about pitchers who are top prospects, like Meyer? Were these guys touted as better than average, especially Meyer? I just thought about this. Seems King Felix has been around a long time. He's just about to turn 29.
  21. Neither is Meyer. Not in baseball terms anyway. They're both 2 decades younger than me :-)
  22. I have the Cubs going to the playoffs this year, so I guess that means I think the Cubs are farther along. In fairness, I never thought they were on the same schedule:-)
  23. To avoid being all ears during that whole time frame he could have just not re-signed him to begin with. One of the most baffling decisions to extend a player in recent memory to go along with the Doumit one and likely the Suzuki one.
  24. Cubs haven't exactly been overspending over the last 3, 4 years (2012-2015). Their payrolls have been very close to ours, and neither have spent what they could. Even this year.
  25. Have I been saying Ryan hasn't been a good GM? I point out things he's done well and things he hasn't, but I'm not clamoring for his removal or saying he stinks. Are you confusing me with some other poster, perhaps? I do think Beane is better though.
