  1. I think Hicks gets that too.
  2. this umpire has a huge strike zone. huge.
  3. So on Sano's 'strikeout' didn't look like he went at all. And the home plate umpire has a generous inside strike to lefty zone.
  4. yeah, but can't forget. Without Hunter, Hicks doesn't evolve into a quality player :-)
  5. He shouldn't have been signed in the first place and he definitely shouldn't have been re-signed.
  6. Fangraphs chat today: Q: It seems like most relievers are essentially recycled starters. Does any team regularly acquire guys specifically to be relievers (ceiling = closer, of course) through the draft or international signings? Jeff Sullivan: You see relievers get drafted on occasion, but I don’t think it’s part of any organization’s routine plan. Everybody wants starters; everybody believes they can turn failed starters into relievers
  7. For Fein, 80% of plate appearances against end up with ball in play. Highest on the team. Only 2 teams in the majors have allowed a higher % of inherited runners to score and no team has allowed more actual inherited runners to score.
  8. Why is that? The three division winners (the #1, #2 and #3 seeds) don't play the one-game playoff. Now, the Pirates and Cubs. THEY are battling to host the one game playoff game.
  9. unfortunately for May, by the time he's a FA, he'll be 29. If he stays pigeonholed in the bullpen, he'll be hard-pressed to convince a team to switch him back. As far as Berrios(at his age) goes, if I were him, I would remember not being brought up this year and go year to year in arbitration and then bolt as a FA. He's said the right things, but I bet he is pissed. I would be too if I were him.
  10. Look at the bright side, maybe they will take that course of action next year :-)
  11. I'm not negating anything the positive things he did, but I also don't dismiss the negative things he did either. They all count. The time he did well helped the winning and the times he did poorly contributed to the losing. Or do we only want to count his first half? He's been a 0.1 WAR player for the season. Not even one win above replacement. That doesn't equate to an excellent signing.
  12. The Hunter signing was excellent? The Hunter signing was bad (and predictably so). We've gotten less than 1M worth of value on a 10M contract. Where would we be without him? There's no way to know for sure, but looking at what he's done throughout the year (poor defense and an OPS under .700 from a RF) I imagine at least this well if not better.
  13. Cooperstown. Sometimes this place is like Comedy Central. I'm trying to figure out how much he has actually contributed to rebuilding this team. A lot of the guys we have and are excited about were either from Smith's time or because were so bad we were able to draft talent like Buxton. He traded for May, a good move to help the rotation, then he moved him to the pen. Ugh. I also remember how long it took him to rebuild his first time around.
  14. Correia signing, Marquis signing, Span for Meyer trade, Bartlett coming back and being on the 25 Man roster and starting in the OF. (that's how I interpreted you four etcs. :-))
  15. I doubt it's a hard concept for anyone to understand. Why don't you stick to points instead of taking shots at posters? I'm sure any concept you can understand can be understood by anyone else.
  16. and one has to wonder why we wouldn't get rid of Robinson and Nunez as well.
  17. Twins rotation WAR in 2nd half: 1.6 (tied for 23rd in MLB). ERA in 2nd half 5.02, FIP 4.54. Twins bullpen WAR in 2nd half: 0.1 (21st in MLB).
  18. And I have applauded them for promotions this year of the young guys multiple times. But think about when those promotions happened. After getting an extra year and/or avoiding the Super Two time, right? Why would they do anything different with Berrios next year? As far as May goes, think of all the excuses used here about why it was okay to put him in the bullpen. The defense of that move by the usual suspects centered around how he'd be back in the rotation this year for good and if not it was a bad move. After it was clear that wasn't happening (to those who actually believed it would), then it changed from being a bad move to how it's better if he stays there. I can't see them starting him in the rotation after how they used him in 2015. And it's not like he deserved to be put in the pen to begin with. And I'm not condemning them at all, I'm saying how I think it shakes out.
  19. There's nothing set in stone, but it's exactly how I expect it to go based on the actions we've seen as opposed to the words we've heard/read by the Twins brass.
  20. yeah, and if the question was about 2012, it would have made sense :-)
  21. Funny thing on MLB Network this morning. They were doing trivia. One host was asking Ken Rosenthal questions. Question #3 was, 'Who finished 3rd in the highly-debated 2011 AL MVP race?' The question was posted right on the screen, Then the host went on to talk about how the debate for first was between Trout and Cabrera, but who came in 3rd. The supposed answer was Beltre. I listened to that and was thinking, wait. Trout won his 1st MVP last year in 2014, and Cabrera won back to back in 2012 and 2013 What are these guys talking about? That was the year the debate was about Verlander and Ellsbury for 1st and Bautista finished 3rd. I looked it up and BAM.
  22. They say a lot of things Brock :-) Like Anthony saying there was no innings limit thing set for Berrios and then Ryan saying he's reached the innings limit we set for him at the start of the season. There was no reason to remove him from the rotation this season. And it sure didn't help the rotation after they did it. Think about this. The Twins rotation WAR in the 2nd half is 1.6. May's WAR as a starter before being demoted, 1.7.
  23. May will be in the pen, Berrios will be in the minors.
  24. worse thing is, I'd bet neither Berrios or May are in the starting rotation when the 2016 season starts.
