  1. I saw Timeless. I'll give it another look.
  2. I had to adjust my statement. Along with Designated Survivor, I'm enjoying Lethal Weapon a lot. Not only is the comedy good, but the serious parts are also very good. A person can really feel the pain Riggs has when he thinks about his deceased wife and Murtaugh's serious moments, also very good. It's a well done show.
  3. I'm not sure I ever said I don't take the wild card game serious. Quite the opposite really, I love them (from a viewer standpoint).
  4. I see your Blue Jays fans and raise you Philly fans.
  5. Funny thing about Showalter is that he's normally a brilliant strategist. It's completely unusual for him to make that kind of mistake.
  6. What are the Cubs flaws? I mean, yeah, I'd vote for the rally monkey too, but still ;-)
  7. The Cubs went 8-3-1 in their last 12 games while giving their starters some rest. What's kind of record would be considered a good surge into the playoffs? :-) Or do you mean you prefer teams that have to win at all costs at the end just to make it into one of the wild card spots? ;-)
  8. Kepler had 5 DRS in RF and another 1 in CF. Yeah, he's done very well defensively. BTW, our OF had -30 DRS, Our infield had -19.
  9. Serious question. How many years has Mauer hit poorly against lefties? Because just last year, he hit better against lefties than righties and for his career, his numbers against lefties is better than most lefties versus lefties. I mean, while obviously better against righties, his career stat line isn't gross against lefties.
  10. base runs had us at 71-91. We had the worst record in the AL when looking at Baserun records too. Lots of work to do, but a win total in the 70s can happen for sure.
  11. -12 in base runs still makes us a 90 loss club. we were also 29th in team defense. So below average hitting, horrific defense and pitching.
  12. He means Deolis Guerra, the supposed pitching jewel we got for Johan Santana, who now pitches for the Angels.
  13. Not like the numbers on offense were good last year either, though.
  14. Well, we only have one FA. Some stuff is going to have to seriously happen to make a dent in the horrible team assembled.
  15. It's not logical to pick any other team, but it would be logical to pick the field over any one team including the Cubs :-)
  16. No, no, no. He was being subbed a lot at 1B WAY before he got hurt towards the end of the year. Played enough to be in 134 games and 576 PAs. Yet inferior defenders played 1B more than 25% of the time he played in favor if lesser defenders who could have been DHing. Besides, the question was about who the best defensive 1B was in the AL this year, not another discussion about how he's bringing the team down and how the flavor of the moment, Vargas, is so much better as if last season never happened. Based on what I posted earlier, there is an argument to suggest he was the best defensive 1B in the AL based on DRS, at least.
  17. Well, I never said he won't finish in the top 10. That could happen. Colon won CY Young in 2005, while Santana finished a distant 3rd for goodness sakes. Anything can happen with these writers.
  18. As far as Mauer goes, Fangraphs listed him #3 for the AL Gold Glove at 1B in their article about AL Gold Glove. If he didn't keep getting pulled for players not as a good on D, he would have gotten more recognition. Mauer was 3rd in the AL in DRS with +6 with only 831 innings played. The guy in front had +8 DRS and also about 500 more innings out there. The guy in second had 7 DRS and 250 more innings. I think there IS an argument to suggest Mauer was the best defensive 1B in the AL this year.
  19. He can be a great offensive force even with 180 or so Ks. Last year he was great and he struck out almost the same % as he did last year. (36% this year, 35.5% last year)
  20. I wouldn't be surprised if more deserving players get passed over by the writers and he gets some votes. Not for 1st, 2nd or 3rd, but maybe other spots (probably by Boston writers, at least).
  21. yes, but because some do, doesn't mean others will. Bryant and Sano have completely different types of swings. I'm not saying he WON'T improve his K%, but I wouldn't just figure that because he gets older it will get better. Some players get worse and strikeout more as they get older.
  22. I agree with the OP, I wouldn't have Ortiz in the top 10 for MVP, because defense counts. He deserves the Silver Slugger for DH, though.
  23. How much credence do we put on fielding %?
  24. I'm confused by the logic of the assumption he'll be able to drop it to 130-150 in full seasons just because he'll get older.
