  1. You can try to make it sound like a good idea if you like, but they don't do that. It'd be a bad move by them.
  2. If the Pirates move McCutchen it's because they are rebuilding. Getting a 30 year old 2B for 2 years doesn't accomplish that.
  3. I dont even really look at a pitchers ERA anymore. I dont consider ERA a result of a pitchers performance. I also really only look at the last two or three years and then take into account age and other factors when trying to figure what to expect from the player in the future. What a player did 8 years ago has little to do with the player he is now.
  4. regardless of his very good first year with us, I have never thought much of him as a starter. Horrible decision to extend him.
  5. Santana is a weak #2 type pitcher or a strong #3. He is a tweener.
  6. Something kind of funny. Since the beginning of 2010, only 49 starters have logged 1000 or more innings. Ervin Santana and Hughes are two of them and they both have the same FIP (4.15) . Only two of the remaining 47 pitcher have a worse FIP during that time and some of the pitchers aren't even in baseball anymore. I really have no point, BTW, just interesting (and probably only to me) :-)
  7. I don't believe that's true. Dodgers are right there with the Cubs, IMO.
  8. like every other topic ever, there are differences of opinion here.
  9. Alvarez and Bellinger are their top prospects. Buehler is a top 5 Dodgers prospect and it's a strong system. I prefer him to De Leon, but that doesn't mean I rank him even with Alvarez, just saying he is very good and closer to the majors than Alvarez.
  10. I have Buehler and Alvarez higher than De Leon too and I absolutely believe they'd balk at putting either in their as a second piece. 12 controlled years of highly regarded prospects for two years of a 2B who turned 30 (at a very good price). I don't think it matters what his WAR was this year so much. More to do with how he's expected to play in the future (and for only two more years). Friedman and Company understand that.
  11. Supposedly Season 3 ties into the previous seasons. Will be interesting to see how that works.
  12. What do we get from Dozier when he walks away as a FA in two years because we couldn't get what he was worth in a trade (understanding that the market decides what a player is worth, not the POBO or GM of the team that has the player)? What do we get if he goes back to being regular Dozier and then we try and trade him with only one year left on his contract (one year at 9M versus two years at 15M after a peak year)?
  13. Assuming he can even play 1B now or in a couple years. But I am with you, I dont know of any interesting options for 3B in our farm system
  14. In Rogue One, Chirrut said there are no more Jedi. Only Bail Organa, Leia and Mon Mothma know different. During the beginning of ANH, the bad guys dont know that Obi-Wan exists and never find out Yoda does. So when Tarkin says to Darth Vader that he is the last of a dying relgion, he just doesnt know that what he's saying isnt true. And, obviously, the emperor wasnt a Jedi.
  15. Rogue One was FANTASTIC!!!!
  16. Yeah, I don't know why it would be considered meaningless and I haven't heard/read that, but I have no doubt some have said/thought that. But this probably should stop being a discussion about non-traditional stats.
  17. No, you're right. the more predictive stat would be xFIP as opposed to ERA (the worst predictor of future ERA) and FIP. That is, of course, if what you're trying to do is predict future ERA, for whatever reason. Only SIERA has a better correlation to future ERA.
  18. very true, but I wouldn't assume we have the makings of a top 5 AL offense based on what we've seen.
  19. Our offense has work to do, it's average at the very best, and the ones creating this offense are also the one playing the horrible defense. It's why our position players were 25th in the majors in WAR (14th in AL)
  20. except that when doing that, many just figure ERA tells us what the pitcher did, and they judge him on that.
  21. I agree that they are likely asking too much. Hope they don't overplay their hand, because he'll be worth even less, in regards to trade value, the longer we have him.
  22. There have also been people on here who have said Ryan is every bit as good as Epstein too.I was never one of those people who believed that Ryan was going to come in to save the day and quickly turn this team, so I can't speak to those comments. Believe me, I've talked a lot about goalposts being moved by people here. I think if you read what you just quoted, I'm not even assuming it will happen in 2019. What I am figuring is it isn't happening in the next couple years, but if things break right and even a handful of the prospects we think will be decent become so, we may be contenders. So, I am not worried about having every prospect we get back for Dozier contributing to the big club right away.
  23. around the time we might have a team capable of contending (if a lot goes right).
  24. People always talk about under-performing or out-performing his FIP. One day, we're going to stop thinking FIP needs to match up with ERA eventually as if ERA is the superior stat all along. Considering ERA is heavily influenced by a team's defense and scorers judgment, it's never going to be the stat that truly judges how a pitcher did.
