  1. Wedding. http://www.theknot.com/wedding/Aaron-Lauren I think he should have played through it. Congrats to him and his wife!
  2. A 50 gamer after Elizabethan season starts is a lost season, What is there 60 games all year? For a 24th round pick in rookie ball... I'll be surprised if he makes it to high A.
  3. This. The Lirano trade should be measured by what he did in Chicago and the Morneau trade by what he did in Pittsburgh. Both players moved on to different teams, both players could have been signed by any of the 29 other teams. If the Twins would have held on to them and let them leave VIA free agency and got nothing, that would have been a loss. You get guys, you gamble, some work out, some don't. Both Johnson and Presley have value, Presley not working out was due to roster mismanagement, Johnson is good, just not MLB regular good, at least not right now.
  4. This is a 40 man purge, and they got something for him instead of just letting him go. There were so many AAAA-5th stater LHP at the start of last year, he was repetitive given the other guys needing to be or already on the 40 man roster.
  5. Two seasons? Call him up already! Man this system promotes everyone slow.
  6. I have a friend who loves the M hats because he doesn't live in the "Metro" part of MN. I think there is a divide there between the two MN groups.
  7. Excellent Article. I like the idea of the return of the Bash Brother, but I have a feeling it's Vargas and Sano, with Arica providing the protection. The article in general was a great balance of of stats and color, but one area I was thrown off was when you had the picture of Vargas split up the "Past 30 day" comments and the "Leads the majors in.." comment. Made it feel like they were two separate factoids rather than one.
  8. Summer Break has made me slack off on my adopt a prospect, but Felix Jorge hasn't. He racked up a few accolades including a pitcher of the day from Baseball America on Aug. 11 for his near No-no (But not from Twins Daily huh ;-) ) and Pitcher of the Year for the Appy League. He had another Quality Start Last night going 6.2 innings, giving up 3 earned runs, 6 hits, and 6 Strikeouts. His stat line. The Future for Felix is at a cross roads. After putting up even more dominate numbers in his 2nd season in the Appy League, he can't learn anything more there. But if he struggles again in the Midwest, there are a lot of good pitchers fighting for way too few roster spots. My prediction: he starts next year in the Kernels bullpen. once he puts up good numbers he replaces the 1st demoted/promoted starter. If he struggles again at starting, a more permanent move to the bullpen might be in the cards.
  9. Can you add him and take him off a month later? Nice store, but is he worth keeping over all the other rule 5/ minor league free agents this off season?
  10. The 2014 Draft is doing very well so far. Seeing guys like Reed, Burdi, Curtiss, Murphy, English, and Batts dominate, and Gordon, Cederoth, Steele, LeBlanc, put up good numbers, makes me feel like they got a lot of talent in this draft. I know the Appy league seems to be a younger league on average than the college guys the Twins send there, but the ones moving up to Kernels are still producing!
  11. It's great to see! The Twins depth of pitching is growing to the point where this time next year we might be know as a pitching heavy system. The problem with focusing on pitching for the past 3 drafts is you start running out of starting spots. Even if AA down went with 6 man pitching rotations there are still going to be a lack of starting spots available, Cedar Rapids in particular is going to have have a number of guys deserving of a sport coming up from rookie ball and a high number of guys returning from injury. I'd guess Thrope returns to the midwest league and only Stewart is a given to move up to high A next year, leaving Gonsalves and Hu to prove there ready for the promotion during instructional and spring training.
  12. Anyone who follows my posts might think this is odd coming from me, but this might be the off season to say "Screw the draft picks, let get an elite player". Because... 1) Twins will have a better idea of what their long term needs will be, looking at the players they have this year and in AA/AAA. The 2015-16 off season is more ideal, but this one will still be in the 'zone'. 2) This might be the last year we have a protected 1st round pick. If the Twins do take a step forward next year, they will be out of the "protect 10 picks". 3, We have a comp pick this year! We sign a guy like Scherzer or Shields, we give up the 2nd round pick, and still have a 1st and 2nd round comp. Again, 2015-16 offseason is a better gage of what The Twins need, but if this FA class looks better then the next. Go for it. Edit: they'd give up 2nd round pick, keep comp after the 2nd round.
  13. Hope for the best, wish him good health, quick recovery. I just convinced myself this is cliffhanger at the end of chapter 5 of his autobiography: Bucking the Odds: The true story of how Byron Buxton became a multiple MVP winner.
  14. #$@#%#$&*%#$%!
  15. Because the Twins have such a balanced minor league system, it hard to sign a veteran without someone saying "but now ... is blocked". With the exception of signing a superstar at top dollar, the Twins are looking at a catcher, an outfielder, and maybe a starting pitcher. With the Suzuki extension they've addressed Catching (Pinto is a good fall back option). A Michael Cuddyer type on no more than a two year deal, and a pitcher who is better than anyone you have in AAA (which might be hard to justify given Meyer there). After that, its all about giving young players time to play. If Vargas is hitting 280-300 with 7-10 homeruns by the end of the year, Is it worth holding him back for guy on a one year deal?
  16. Indy has a nice stadium. I once watched Perkins imploded there. I remember thinking at the time " he can't even get out of the 3rd inning in AAA, no way he's a starter much longer..." I guess I was right, just not in spirit.
  17. This is is 2nd "in house suspension" in as many years, with a 50 gammer from Milb in between them. Are these in house suspensions, for on field lack of effort, club house issues, or outside ball park issues?
  18. On the Twins top 20 prospects, Kenny Vargas comes in at number 11. But of top 1st baseman in all the minors, he come in at 7 overall. That says more to the lack of depth at 1st base/ how much position effects rankings, then it does about the Twins depth, but still it's nice to see Stewart, Sano, Buxton, Vargas, and Gordon ranking in the top 10 in their position. The Twins are an elite Catcher or LHP away from filling out a whole roster internally. Both of which could change with trades or improvements/ advancements of current A ball players.
  19. Yeah if he throws both a change up and a palm ball they must come in at different speeds, but which one is faster? I'd Always assumed it roughly went 4 seamed Fastball, 2 seam Fastball, Split finger, Fork Ball, Palm ball, Change up. From fastest to slowest. Maybe he gets more movement on the palm ball and uses it like a Screwball or a Circle change to throw hitters off of his curveball.
  20. Nope. That pick is gone. It's becoming clear the Astros rebuild will take a lot longer than the Cubs, with their number 1 picks getting injured, playing poorly, and not signing, it adds years on to the process. The Twins on the other hand need more of their young player to start claiming jobs when they get to the Twins. Pino, Hicks, and Arcia haven't claimed a spot like Gibson and Dozier, keeping the rebuild timeline in flux.
  21. He might sometime now, but he and everyone else had to just assume both sides were playing hardball with each other. The last 5 million offer didn't come until 5 minutes before the deadline, not a lot of time to step in and save the day.
  22. Law was a early and big Gordon fan, so all these rankings seem in line with his comments.
  23. Sickles has Bryant number 1 too. I think this will be the new ranking trend unless Buxton starts dominating again.
  24. Astros will get the 2nd overall pick next year if he doesn't sign, and the way their playing, they may get the 1st overall pick four years in a row as well. If the Astros want to draft Aiken again, they need his permission, and if they don't come to a deal, I can't see him giving it. Aiken was the best pitcher in the draft class. He agreed to a below slot deal. The MRI didn't show an injury, it showed that his UCL is smaller than average. Aiken people and doctors say this won't increase injury or make a Tommy John surgery harder, Astros seem to disagree. I don't like the way the Astros have been treating it's players. I'm in the rooting for a failed rebuild as well.
  25. Vargas defense looked a lot better than the las time I saw him. I think he could play there everyday if needed. If you playing in the futures game, people outside the org. Think you can play at the MLB level one day. It encouraging that we have had 6 players picked in the last 2 years.
