I don't think anyone in their right mind would ever be bothered by what you had to say. Just as we need to be understanding when people don't want to talk about things, we also need to listen when they feel the need. By no means were you being selfish; in fact, you post was very relevant to the topic on hand, and for anyone to object to it would be selfishness itself. And you weren't just feeling sorry for yourself (though you have every reason for your regrets); you were giving an account of your viewpoint on religion and what made you come to believe what you do today.

I never intended to post in this thread because I can't stand forcing religion on anybody, especially in a purely atheist discussion, but I thought your comment warranted a response. I am in no way trying to be disruptive or disrespectful and hope that I do not come across that way. I loath religious discussions because it's all about people taking sides on what is possibly the most personal subject out there, and invariably people start slandering other people and/or their beliefs, but I'm going to try to avoid that. To get to the point, while you are certainly entitled to your opinion, I think that either I am completely misunderstanding what you are trying to say or else your comment was one of ignorance, for lack of a better word. Either way, I'm just posting this for the sake of clarification. I have a lot of respect for atheists who accept the fact that there's freedom of religion in our country, and that means the freedom to worship or not worship. Now, I don't have so much respect for my grandpa who pulled a gun on my then non-believing dad for the innocent act of picking up a Bible, but then again, my feelings would be no different if he had been religious and reacted the same way had my dad tossed it into a fire. This thread is all about believers respecting non-believers' views, and while I agree that that is important, I think that we need to have a compromise here. Being religious (and I speak only for myself, not all religious groups/people in general) has nothing to do with the need to believe in a deity to keep myself on the straight and narrow. I'm not going to even try to explain what I believe since I'm sure you're fairly acquainted with the idea of "born again," and anyway, if I did try, it would only come across as though I were trying to convert you. I am not. All I want is for you to understand that we are not the way you were referring to us as; being religious - or I should rather say believers, as the term "religious" seems to refer more to a pharisaical attitude than anything else - does not make us inherently immoral people any more than being atheist doesn't make you inherently immoral. I hope that nobody minds my saying this, especially since it was a pain in the rear to get it all worded out in the least offensive way I could imagine. I am not attempting to hijack the thread, nor do I want this to turn into a religious argument. I respect your beliefs, and I just want you to respect mine, too. And by the way, if I spelled any words wrong, please forgive me ... my internet's really glitchy and my spell check went on strike. Okay, I checked a few in the dictionary.

I'll go with 85-77 for the 2nd wildcard team. As stated above, the Twins would need to go 22-16 to reach that. I'm predicting that we go 18-20 to wrap up the season, but I won't go into the details of why and wherefore. Ya'll can serve my head on a silver platter if we do ... and don't forget to stick a fork in it. Hm, let's see ... the teams I think will go are the Blue Jays and Yankees in the East, the Royals in the Central, and the Astros and Rangers/Angels in the West. The Rangers are hot right now and the Angels are not, but the Angels get to play the Twins in the middle of September, and I predict that unless they've really swooned (and if they do, the Twins just might surprise me and slip into the postseason unawares), they'll take off from there. The Rangers could even pass the Astros, but regardless of that possibility, the 'Stros are going. If I was held at gunpoint, I think I'd cut the Angels out and hand the division over to the Rangers. The way I look at it, the Royals have already clinched, even if not in numbers. There's just no way we're going to pass them and even squeeze them out of the wildcard spot … that would take some really great Royals losses to pull that one off. The Yankees and Blue Jays are going to be fun; I'm rooting for the Blue Jays, and they're hot right now. The Yankees appear to be doing good, but we all know that it was the Twins they just swept. I'm just going to go ahead cut the O's and Rays, even though they're still theoretically in the race. I guess that looks a lot like the current standings, so maybe I'm just being boring and have little to no foresight. I just thought I'd throw my predictions out there, though. Can't hurt us any ... nothing but perhaps my pride. Oh, and I've often wondered if it's my fondness of humility that keeps me rooting for the Twins, so maybe I want my pride to be damaged just a little at the end of the season ... ?

Lol ... I know I wasn't supposed to agree with this nut, but I think that even non-sports fans would shrug that article off because of the limited data and people he had to work with. But did anyone else find it offensive the way he insinuated that minority groups are stupid? Reading that, I got the impression that this guy was a lot dumber than he thought ... not that I mind being ranked about average intelligence, but I'd prefer to be slotted there by a smart person than a not so smart person.

I agree that Sano has the talent to hit 700 homeruns. Do I think he will? No. But I back anyone who says that he has the talent. The problem with Sano is that he plays in a definite pitchers' park. Actually, I probably shouldn't call that a problem with Sano - far from it. It's more like a problem for Sano. But I do not see 700 homers in his future unless we ship him off to Colorado, etc. I, for one, am unwilling to make the sacrifice just to see another guy with 700+ homeruns - as I'm assuming most if not all other Twins fans are. But I still believe Sano can become a superstar. He isn't one already and even if he did win ROTY (not happening, btw), he still wouldn't be a superstar. That is something that comes with more experience. But I believe in him - and as a Twins fan, believing in anything feels pretty weird right now!
