  1. I don't know since I haven't been here long, but from what I've observed, game threads are a place where Twins fans can get together and have fun together. We're free to talk about our ups and downs, ideas and lack thereof, and we get support from everyone else ... at least those who want to offer it. For more relevant topics on the games, click on "Minnesota Twins Talk" and you'll find a thread started by SpiritofVodkaDave for virtually every game as of late (at least every game that's notably different than the previous few and therefore deserving of a new topic). In fact, I think that these threads are fast paced to being stickied or even granted a whole new section of their own so as to draw more attention. This is just a guess, but I'll go ahead and say it: Back in the day when Twins Daily was a fledgling website, game threads were intended to be more on topic and there was a whole forum called "The Sports Bar" that was meant for anything and everything off topic. However, as people like to take everything one degree beyond its original purport, the said "Sports Bar" became a place for both good- and bad-natured bickering. Game threads got off topic, and the other threads ... well, the mods are doing their best. Like I said, I'm just guessing on this. Don't quote me ... and you've been on here a lot longer than me so I'm sure you won't feel the need.
  2. On the topic of 20th century classical music, once I was part of a heated discussion (or rather I should say I was an unbiased observer/mediator) on whether Boléro is minimalistic. I can't even remember what the arguments on either side were, but I do remember that there was one person I strongly disagreed with. He was known for being obstinate and writing absolute walls (I think I might have picked up on that a bit, but at least I know that a 1,000 word post can have more than one paragraph). He said that while Boléro is not minimalistic, it's just plain stupid. How could anybody think that?! And it would have been more entertaining had he taken an umbrella (that's the masculine form of parasol, yes? no?) to his opponents. And by the way, I'm listening to the video you posted. I'd be ... um, interesting ... if I watched the whole thing. Not that there's anything wrong with that. But I'm not interesting, so I'm just listening. I think I've heard it before, but I can't say conclusively because it's not in our CD library. I do like it; sadly, however, it is being accompanied by my computer's fan which decided to go on the fritz the other day and is whupping like a helicopter.
  3. Speaking of Glass Cages and the fat lady, did you ever wonder where that phrase comes from? The true phrase should be "It isn't over until after the fat lady sings ... and then about five more minutes of thin ladies gyrating in glass cages." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A8njyLeEfuQ
  4. When the fat lady sings.
  5. Are you sure it isn't interrupted by a preview of John Cage's 4'33"?
  6. Dishes? What dishes? Says RB. Don't tell me to go back to the page before again. I'm not keeping up today.
  7. The Royals were winning 7-0 in the 6th. Now they're not even winning anymore.
  8. And by this I mean no offense, but I only joined TD just recently and I don't know if RB makes a habit of practicing impersonation in is OP's. However ... RB is a master of all arts and could do it if he would do it.
  9. This. Whoever has the GT after the AS break ... do it. Hey, that's you, RB! Somehow I see SSo1 stepping up to the plate sooner ... but we'll see.
  10. No, it's not. Look at your man!
  11. I have another complaint: Per-EZ. Can't anybody say Pear'ez?
  12. You can only do that if the Twins and the White Sox are vying for 1st place and the Twins are playing the Tigers. The White Sox lost their last game of the season and the AL Central isn't the best division in the league, so the Sox needed the Twins to lose to play a tie-breaker or else they're out of the playoffs. The Twins beat the Tigers 16-3 with two Sano grand slams. The only drawback is that Dozier didn't hit a walk off home run and Perk didn't get the save. Molly considered setting up for that but decided to scrap that idea after realizing it could only be one or the other. I apologize for the tense change. I got carried away with my idea. EDIT: I think that this would be even sweeter if you swap out the White Sox for the Tigers and vice versa.
  13. What! I always thought that would be the main (if not only) reason any ballplayer would bother to take the time to read the GT's.
  14. This leads to the question ... will E-San go home after the game and read the GT?
  15. For some reason I just feel like posting this. I bet no one watches it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=asoKCwsmGbY Now let's hear someone say "I did!" Now I won the bet.
  16. Obviously you are in a good mood. Anyway, the reason I asked is because I left a comment on Facebook that really pissed some Royals fans off. They dug me up on Twitter and were having fun tweeting about my idiocy. Ervin Santana immediately followed me on Twitter, and I wasn't even following him. I would assume that he has a fair amount of Royals fans followers still .... I just wondered if he's a troll.
  17. I have a question for you guys: Is Ervin Santana known for being a troll?
  18. Dave ... I commend you on your choice of game attendance. Henceforward you shall make all future arrangements when it comes to mine ... let's see, any time in late August / early September should work. PM me for more details, i.e. pricing/seating, etc. I'm willing to give big bucks to see another win like that live from the ballpark.
  19. Okay ... I headed off to watch Moneyball and I was enjoying that ridiculous game versus KC. I almost forgot to check the score before heading off to bed, but I decided that I might as well, just to see how well we died. I gave my first after midnight scream since I was 2 years old. EDIT: I'm glad I didn't check the GT. You guys give me no clue. Absolutely no clue. Where are the CBU's? I leave for a few days and they completely disappear? I'm heartily ashamed of you. You're given a job, you're expected to perform it. Okay, okay, it's not a job. But I'm tellin' ya, we need CBU's. At least once every 9 innings.
  20. Hunter's standing on deck and Dozier (of course) is in the batter's box. Hunter glances down at Hunter (Tommy) and says, "Give him the high fastball." Hunter (Tommy) looks back and answers, "What high fastball? I have no high fastball." Hunter looks calmly around into the dugout and says, "Sano, rip his arms off." Hunter (Tommy) jumps nervously and says, "Oh, you mean this high fastball," and throws the pitch. BAM!!!!!!!!!
  21. I'll be impressed when you say how many of those 150/13,000 people were vaccinated. But that is irrelevant to what my views are. I am very, very supportive of vaccinations. You're right, people who are against them are not smart (though I wouldn't say they're the stupidest people on the planet because that would give people every reason to wonder exactly how smart I am). While I do think that compulsory flu vaccines would be unreasonable (I don't get them because all they do is give you a small enough dose of the flu to immunize you while not getting sick IF you don't get exposed to it elsewhere), I agree pretty much 100% with what Brock said in #246. Vaccinations are a necessity of life. Either that or disease. And in my opinion, it isn't for the small percentage of wackos in this nation to decide whether the people as a whole choose disease over vaccinations. I have been vaccinated against chicken pox, and I never had it either. I am about the only person I know who hasn't had it, yet I am by no means the only person I know who has had the vaccination. Obviously vaccinations don't always work (this is what anti-vaxxers love to say), yet by and large, they are a good thing. Especially when you think of all the diseases that have been near exterminated because of them. And by the way, don't get mad at me for not getting the flu vax. I rarely get sick for one thing, and when I do, it's as often as not from people who had the vaccination but got sick anyway. Those people, however, rudely thought they had to keep going ... or, if their kids stayed home from school, brought them to the store, etc. Big help that does. But I believe it is my duty, vaccinated or not, to be considerate and stay home when I'm sick. It's everyone else's duty, too, but from what I've observed, hardly anybody cares.
  22. In honor of Dave.
