  1. If you check a Yankees depth chart, Hicks is the 4th outfielder. He'll get lots of playing time, but he won't be a starter. Having said that, I wish him well as well. I also wish great things for Murphy.
  2. The Twins can afford top contracts. They choose not to except for one (Mauer's). Their TV revenue is $80M/year, their overall revenue (at Target Field) has been estimated to be about $250M. Their payroll has been kept below $100M for 4 out of the last 6 seasons, maybe for competitive reasons, or lack thereof, but if they had paid for a couple of top salaries (add $40M/season say), they'd still be spending about 50% of revenues on salaries (and they'd be more competitive). So, they can afford top contracts, they've made a choice to not do that.
  3. Can we just drop Parmalee from the conversation? Hasn't he proven that he can't hit and his defense isn't a plus? Why do we keep including him?
  4. I'm not sure you know what "intangible" means. You quote a bunch of stats and then call them intangible. If they are measurable, then they are tangible.
  5. Hunter did not have Puckett mentoring him, nor did Hunter mentor Span. When Hunter came up it was Rich Becker and then Otis Nixon playing CF (Puck had retired a couple years before Hunter came up). And when Span came up he played RF because it was Carlos Gomez playing CF. Maybe those players were good mentors, I have no idea, but there wasn't a direct line from Puckett to Hunter to Span. Hicks on the other hand, just kind of showed up with no real mentoring at all (which may be your actual point).
