    Dude, not rationalizing. I'm saying if the normal way the game is played is for hitters to attempt to get runs across the plate, then watching 3-0 meatballs sail by is a hitter acting in a way the normally would not. I think it is disrespectful to the game and your opponent to not do your best, and in my opinion, grown men shouldn't be upset over another grown man giving full effort.

    In my world, hitters hit. As long as the losing team keeps playing, the winning team should too. It's not the winning team's fault the losing team can't get them out.

    Sure. Would you also call Berrios a prospect fail? The line in his first ever start is pretty similar. Berrios--4 IP, 6H, 2BB, 5ER, 5K (11.25 ERA, 2 WHIP, 11.25 k/9, 2.5 k/bb Ober (so far)--3 IP, 4H, 1BB, 4ER, 3K (12.00 ERA, 1.60 WHIP, 9 k/9, 3 k/bb)

    Well, Duran is coming back from an injury, Balazovic is currently injured, Winder has 15 pitches above low A, and Enlow and Canterino are still at High A. All 5 of those guys might still debut this year, but none of them are in a place to be able to pitch for the Twins tonight.

    No, I'm saying if you don't want to be behind a hitter 3-0, don't start the plate appearance with 3 straight balls. I'm saying a hitter attempting to hit is not disrespectful.

    Basketball teams often do shoot in their last possession if the shot clock will expire before the game clock. Football teams don't kick field goals, but they do try to pick up first downs (until such time as they can kneel out the clock). However, in that last intsance, there is a contract being made. The offense is saying we won't try any more, but only if you don't try either. So that's where my issue comes from. If the Twins don't want the White Sox to try, because they don't intend to try, then just forfeit. Swinging on 3-0 is not disrespectful. If you don't want a guy to swing on 3-0 when his team is up by a bunch in the 9th, then don't be down by a bunch in the 9th, or don't fall behind 3-0.

    It's ruining baseball because it's evidence of an attitude that results in boring, passionless, uninteresting baseball. This is a problem, because it drives a lack of interest, which forces MLB to try and do things to maintain popularity.

    Aaron Slegers career MiLB stats--798.2 IP, 3.75 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, 6.6 k/9, 3.2 k/bb Bailey Ober career MiLB stats--188.2 IP, 2.34 ERA, 0.95 WHIP, 11 k/9, 9.6 k/bb As you can see, Ober is far superior to Slegers. Will he be a good starter? I have no idea, maybe not. But writing him off simply because he has the same stature and velocity as another pitcher who failed is just silly.

    Dick relating how people didn't like Mercedes' 9th inning homer last night, one of whom was La Russa. This is the crap that's ruining baseball. It's a hitter's job to hit; is he supposed to just stand there and let every pitch sail past him? If you don't want the other team to try and score, just forfeit.
