  1. Of the FA's I have seen mentioned, Lynn is the most intriguing guy that I see, first year off surgery and he is doing well, usually guys don't completely bounce back until year two. A staff of Lynn Berrios Santana Mejia Whoever/(May after All Star Break) would be serviceable Or pick up another low grade FA along with Lynn to be that 5th guy or to push Mejia to the 5th guy and bridge the gap to when May might be ready and then Gonsalves, Romero, Jorge etc... Are the AAA guys who provide depth next year and start to fill in the year after when guys like Santana are gone.
  2. I don't know if the Twins can even count on May until June or so?
  3. Yeah he's kinda middle of the road as far as Aces go, and yeah he would be over matched by most other teams Aces. However, he might be a tad bit better on a good defensive team, plus a guy like him matching up against the other teams Aces means that Berrios and Santana match up against the other teams #2 and #3 guys which gives those guys a much better chance than they would currently have against the #1 and #2??
  4. Well, I think that Giolito and Lopez right now would blow every Twins minor league pitchers right out of the water right now, even with their regressions that they have had at this point. I mean, they would probably be in the Twins rotation as we speak if they were in the Twins system. I don't think Turley, Jorge or any of the guys they have run back and forth are even close to as good as those two. I'd say they are on the same plane as Mejia right now. So when looking at that, how do they compare to Quintana? I think Archer is out of our league as the Twins have nothing that makes Tampa better, it would be totally different if Archer was in his walk year or close to it, then his value goes way down, but right now the Twins would be lucky to pry away a Gray or a Straily type. What did Boston give up for Pomeranz last year? Pomeranz is probably about as close of a match to Straily as you could find, both went from Oakland where they were mediocre to the national league and found themselves in a good situation and produced.
  5. But you have to ask yourself, is Tampa Bay better or worse without Archer, so obviously, they are trying to get better by trading him, what do the Twins have that makes Tampa better without Archer? Probably someone like Berrios which of course defeats the purpose for the Twins. Archer ain't happening, so quit thinking about it
  6. Maybe next year Sano can get Gibson to throw to him??
  7. It was seeded, after Stanton, returning champ, by the number of home runs hit this year, Bellinger has hit 25 bombs this year compared to Sano's 21. They weren't cherry picked. Sano did great, but he was really lucky to have gone the route he went. Any of the other opening round matchups and Sano would have been one and done. His pitcher was bad, it would be nice to see all of the hitters have to use the same pitcher?
  8. Right, that's why I said they have to send a big piece, then maybe add Gibson in as a fixable thing worth the effort of a last place team waiting for guys like a Gordon to be ready in a year or two. I mean he has stuff, just hasn't done well for the Twins, doesn't mean that some other team with better coaching couldn't get a little more out of him?
  9. I think for sure Santana has to stay for next year. If the Twins trade for Gray, who do they send over to them?? Gordon?? You could send them Gibson along with a Gordon type, but it has to be a pretty big prospect to get Gray. If they get Gray then a guy like Hellickson would be a good signing. Then you would have Gray Berrios Santana Hellickson Mejia as your first 5. It would drop Santana to a #3 starter which is about where he belongs. You will have May coming back at some point I'd say more likely Juneish or early July and it will still take him some time to build up, look at some guys like Wheeler and Baily from Cin. It takes awhile to get back to full force after that kind of stuff. Then another year or two and Santana and Gray are gone and god only hopes that by then the guys like Gonsalves and Romero are ready by then. Duffy is not going to make it. He fooled people for a portion of a year 3 seasons ago and he fooled people for a portion of this year. Obviously, people can figure him out after awhile. So I am pretty sure there is no chance that Duffy can be a rotation fixture. Then the bullpen needs to be dealt with, hopefully the injured guys in the minors get fixed and there can be some in house options for the bull pen. Like back when JC Romero, and Juan Rincon came up to help guys like Hawkins and Guardado. Bet on the youngsters to help the bull pen and get some starters. JMO
  10. So now that Zack Granite has made it to the big club, is it time to give him an alternative ego?? Like Super hero Zack Ganite, leaps tall building in a single bound to track down rogue fly balls? Or Private Detective Zack Ganite, no fly ball or stolen base can hide from him for long? Or Porn Star, Zack Ganite, hard as a rock, and only makes "out calls" while he is working in the field? Just some jokes to go into the break with
  11. I'm glad Molitor didn't let it go. I'm glad he said what he said.
  12. Hey Hector Santiago is like #89 on the list
  13. Ricky Nolasco.
  14. Why dont they throw some long guy when they pull their starter after the 2nd??
  15. I really agree with this as far as the bullpen goes, use the young guys see what they have. a Neshek can always be picked up for cheap at the deadline if still in contention. The rotation is a different matter, there aren't any internal options that are really close to being ready, so might as well see what Gee and a few guys like that can do to hold crap together at the backend of the rotation when we need them at least for this year? Next year hopefully there will be a better plan in place for the rotation. But as far as the bullpen goes, keep rolling out some young guys and see what they got?
  16. what are the Twins plans with a 29 year old Heston?
  17. I would say definitely not an Ace, hopefully he can work his way up to an adequate number 5 starter. If he can go 10 - 10 every year with about 28 to 30 starts around a 4.50 era he'd be about as good as he could be
  18. Just going off of what I have seen the most over the last few years; had the Twins started a guy like Gee or Doug Fister or some other re-treads everyone would be complaining that the Twins aren't giving any of their youngsters a chance? So yeah Turley got rocked, and needs to go back down, but in a way I'm glad they gave him a shot. Now on to Gee and a handful of other re-treads while some of the youngsters develop.
  19. Yeah it didn't make a lot of sense to me either that they passed up some of the top college pitchers when it appears that they have pretty good position players in place and they need pitching help now, pronto. My only guess is that it is probably a safer bet that position players will have a better chance of developing over pitchers. Pitchers seem to be very tricky to predict. So if they load their system with position players then they will more likely have more tradable chips in the future to get pitching or what not. But that doesn't really solve anything for the next 3 or 4 years, but that is my guess.
  20. Was Dillon Gee given a minor league contract? How long till he is in the rotation?
  21. Doug FISter is available?
  22. Sano 50/50 on Santana No one else
  23. I guess my point was that if there are a lot of sellers then that would diminish trade value for players being offered up as the market would be flooded with options? If the market is flooded and value goes down, then wouldn't trading be a bad idea? Also possibly, if the market is flooded and value goes down then it might be prudent to look for that middle to back of the rotation guy as he may come cheap, but only if the market is flooded. Obviously, if the market is scarce, then the value of guys like Dozier, Grossman, Kintzler goes way up..
