  1. Pretty sure Molly knew how to bunt when he was playing? Not sure why no one can do it anymore. I wonder if Rod Carew was the manager if guys in today's game could bunt still or if it's more of that guys just don't bunt anymore so when they need to, they just can't??
  2. Kepler had an amazing run last summer, that showed that he could be someone special, I think he will put up great numbers that will continue to improve for the next 4 - 5 years.
  3. Yeah the guys who have won things like triple crowns, it's hard with all of these new stats to tell if they were really that valuable to their team or not
  4. I'll be the first to say that some of the things proposed on these boards are way off base from reality, me included at times, however to say some tacky thing about what the fans are saying is not good for business. I wonder what they will say when no one is talking about them anymore?? You know when the fans are talking it means they are watching, Dick better hope the fans don't stop talking; it wasn't all that many years ago that MLB tried to eliminate the Twins franchise.
  5. I heard a similar statement on the radio this weekend, but they also said those guys could get a shot at the end of the year most likely if the Twins were out of it.
  6. Yes, I don't know why his name keeps being brought up, but it does?
  7. I agree, but after the Quintana deal it seems as though the price for these types of pitchers is going to be too high, or actually more that what the Twins have to offer.
  8. It petrifies me, but adding Feldman to the rotation isn't going to change that. The only pitcher that would make a difference with how the Red Sox, or the Astros, would feel about the Twins rotation would probably be Gray or Archer. As far as that goes then the Twins would really have to give up a lot, a la Quintana. So what I was saying is that they might as well go with what they got and see how far they get. Because a guy like Feldman can be had via free agency this off season. We already have a rotation full of Feldmans.
  9. IDK, I'd wait to see what the rotation additions of Colon and Gee could add before going after a low tier starter as they already are filled with low tier starters. Go with Santana Berrios Mejia Colon Gee/Gibson for the time being and maybe look to add something to the bullpen cheap. Then in the off season look to add a Lance Lynn type and then another one of those low tier guys like Cahill, Estrada, Hellickson, or Feldman. Otherwise it will probably cost too much in prospects for even one of those lower guys because the selling teams know that their pitchers are needed. I'm afraid that even a Feldman or an Estrada will ask for too much. I really want to see what Gee can offer and give Colon 3 or 4 starts to see if he can get back to last year. Then Gibson becomes the 6th man to rotate in and out when needed. If those guys bomb this season will probably be toast anyway, so at that point look to make next year stronger.
  10. But are we confident enough with Polanco for him to man SS for the rest of the year? I think Polanco will probably be better next year when there is less on his plate, but Escobar does provide really nice depth in the middle infield. And I don't think he's be worth very much in return?? The Twins got Max value out of Nunez last year, but he was pretty much a full time starter, and an All Star where I feel Escobar is probably just as good as Nunez, but he has been put in a reserve role this year.
  11. I feel really weird trying to defend Gibson, because I'm really not, I can't stand the guy. However, his 4th run was given up in the 7th inning off an 11 pitch walk where the hitter fouled off about 5-6 pitches to stay in the AB, then Hildendinger came in and gave up a stolen base and eventually let that run come across the plate. Again had Gibson stayed in he might have given up another 5 runs, but my point being is that Gibson gave up that run in the 7th inning, now had that happened to Mejia, or Jorge, or Colon, or Duffy, or May, or Gonsalves or any other pitcher whose name wasn't Gibson, or Nolasco, or some other hated Twin then everyone would be sitting around talking about how great they did and that they held them in the game, and if it wasn't for that horrible job by the relief pitcher they might have been in line for the win and would be planning next year's rotation around that guy because he held a team to 3 runs in 6 innings and gave up a 4th run in the 7th inning. I'm just saying that there is a lot of hypocracy when talking about the players we don't like and their performance as compared to when we talk about the players we like and their performance. Now to clear things up, I don't like Gibson, but I recognize that he did ok yesterday, good enough that we'd all be praising some other guy for the same performance. Difference is, is that people want Gibson to explode and these starts keep him around awhile longer, I get it, but I just get tired of the bashing when in this one case he doesn't really deserve it.
  12. They'd have a better shot at taking on Verlander's giant contract, no way would they be able to get a guy who is in his 2nd year there. Even if Detroit scrapped everything and went into a full re build they'd still keep Fulmer to be a part of it.
  13. I guess what needs to be asked is: are the Giants really this bad? Or have they just had some bad luck like with Madison Baumgarner being hurt and stuff like that?? I mean they also have some other pitchers that are getting long in the tooth like Cueto, Moore, Cain, etc... So if the Giants think that a rotation of Baumgarner, Cueto, Samardzija, etc.... Along with guys like Buster Posey et. Al. Have absolutely no shot next year then I could seen them completely dismantling the whole program and starting over, but as I'm looking at it from the outside, I'd say that's a decent team and probably worth keeping together for one more year. So with that said, I'd think you'd have to blow them away to get a guy like Samardzija off them. JMO
  14. I didn't see an issue with bringing him over, I would have like to see Gee called up before Bartolo, so as to let Bartolo get at least one more minor league start under his belt before coming up. It seems like Gee has done pretty much everything he has been asked to do, give him at least a shot, he has done ok in the past too. I hope Bartolo does good, I'd like to see him rekindle a little of that Mojo he had working with the Mets last year. Pretty sure he has the same crap he had last year when he was 43, just needs to find it.
  15. Not any more vomit inducing than what has been rolling out there so far.
  16. Dang he has always been a tough starter, but for some reason he just doesn't ever seem to be able to put it all together. He seems like he could be an Ace, but he hovers around that #3 guy his whole career. That being said, if the Twins could ever get him he'd be a great addition, but I'm not sure what would be worth giving up for him, how long is he signed through??
  17. My predictable response is that, for the time being, looks like your going to get slapped in the face every 5 days.
  18. He didn't do terrible today?
  19. Will the Twins be able to hang on to Gee if they don't bring him up soon??
  20. Doesnt make a lot of sense to me, I'd like to see Mauer 2nd and Sano 3rd so as to get those two more at bats. Have Granite hit just before Polanco.
  21. Colon was 15 - 8 with a 3.43 era last year, it's possible, more than likely a lot of it was smoke and mirrors, and moving to the Braves allowed basically the same hitters watch him all over again. It's possible that the smoke and mirrors works again for a couple of months in a new league with different hitters. He needs 8 wins to pass Marichal as the all time wins leader from Latin America. Holy crap if Colon won 8 games I would be ecstatic!! Maybe the rotation for the rest of the way could be Santana Berrios Mejia Gee Colon Gibson spotting up Not much better, but for some reason it sounds better?
  22. If either of those are the Twins rotation next year they will win 58 games. They need to add something.
  23. I hear your concern with a 4 year deal with Lynn, but that is the window everyone is saying the Twins have with the core 4 so if your looking beyond that with a FA pitcher then your looking beyond the supposed window?? Almost anyone who is good now fits the window in my opinion? Plus my hope, and for the sake of the Twins, over the next year or two Berrios needs to take over as the Ace of the staff. If that happens and a guy like Lynn and Santana or Pineda become the #2, #3, 4 types they then have a real shot at accomplishing something.
  24. I agree with you that Lynn would be a great acquisition for the Twins and usually guys have a better year two after TJ surgery than year one. But I think Lynn would be the top of what the Twins can get, I don't feel there is any way they get Yu Darvish or anyone like that. Lynn, I feel looks much better than a Rick Reed type. I think with Lynn Berrios Santana Mejia They have a shot at being consistent at the front end of the rotation, I also see people looking at Pineda, but I think Lynn is better, but if they went and got Pineda also a la Nolasco and Hughes a few years back that wouldn't hurt the rotation at all. But for some reason Pineda looks like one of those guys with lots of stuff but just somehow gets in his own way, same as a guy like Ubaldo Jimenez, lots of stuff but seems to lose all of the time? But if they got two guys, and Lynn was one of them, they would be much better than they are now. Actually looking a Pineda closer, I stand corrected, he does look pretty good, maybe just some bad luck last year?? But my next question is why would the Yankees let him go? They don't look like they have a very deep rotation either? I'd say the Yanks do what they can to resign him.
  25. I think the only reason he would seem to be lower cost is because he's not flashy and he is coming off an injury. If you look at his overall body of work, he looks really good to me. I don't think he's ever had a losing season in his career.
