  1. The reason I disagree with Trading Hicks and/or May is we don't fully know what they have in Berrios or Buxton. Yes, both a super prospects and could be franchise changing guys, or they could both plateau and be run of the mill guys that don't alter anything. We know May is good and hopefully will get even better and I think we are seeing more of Hicks true ability now than we did in his prior call ups. Look at the CF hole the Twins created when they traded Span and Revere thinking Hicks was ready and he wasn't. I don't want that again. My whole statement goes out the window though if the player they are getting in return could be a long-term difference maker, which I doubt they can acquire for any of the guys on the above list.
  2. His argument actually may have saved the Twins a strike call later on. A few innings later (I can't remember who was batting) Nelson was about to ring someone up, but then deferred to the base umpire who called the check swing a ball. So, even though his original argument did nothing to help Hicks it did help later on. Also, Nelson almost seemed like he wanted to boot Molitor once he questioned why he didn't ask for help.
  3. I don't think you trade or let good players walk for nothing. What is the problem with having two really good third basemen? As long as you can find a way to have them both play regularly I call that a win. Lock Plouffe up, he is top 8 at least at his position and Sano we know can hit. If he ends up being a good fielder he will most likely be one of the best as well. They can each play 1st base I assume. So between DH, 3B and 1B you can play Plouffe and Sano every day if you want to and keep Mauer in there too.
  4. Well the Angels are a very good team playing great baseball. The Twins are an OK team playing bad baseball the last week. Put them together and it's a recipe for disaster.
  5. I completely agree. Escobar at least for the rest of this year makes the most sense at SS. An in-house option to make SS "not a black hole" anymore. Tulo would be cool, but the chances of that happening are minimal in my opinion mainly due to the cost in dollars and prospects it would take. So just plug in Escobar this year and hope Polanco can take over next year.
  6. Personally I would be fine with Escobar out there on a daily basis vs. the Santana/Nunez combo we usually see. Santana is essentially the worst SS in the major leagues right now (at the plate). Escobar would be very middle of the pack for shortstops but they continue to play him LF. Tulo would be the ultimate get, but the cost would be much more than a team on the upswing should pay.
  7. Realistically how many more years is Tulo still a SS? 2-3 years tops? The idea of Tulo is intriguing but I say the Twins roll with what we have right now and not give up any top prospects or Major League level players.
  8. I'll take it. Because that means they at least played in the World Series! MATH!
  9. One thing that I don't have numbers for in front me, nor is it an individual player but Outfield Defense has improved greatly. Does anyone have a statistic in front of them that can show this improvement in numbers?
  10. The Twins are in a different position than most of the other playoff contending teams and buyers. For one, this is completely unexpected, two they are doing it with young guys who some thought wouldn't be ready yet and three they are overperforming. If the Twins make a trade they need to make a trade that not only helps them make the playoffs this year but also years into the future. This should be looked at like a bonus year. They need to realize this the going to be the first of hopefully many playoff contending years and they shouldn't do anything to jeopardize the future.
  11. No, Nope, No way. Good Pitching is always needed. Berrios should be 100% off limits.
  12. May as well trade for Pierzynski too to upgrade the catcher spot while we are putting the band back together!
  13. Totally agree on D. Santana being swapped with Hicks. I know you mentioned the moving guys up and down messes with their confidence but the Twins are sort of at a crossroads here where they need to know who is going to be in their future and they won't know until they try them all out over extended periods. And by that I mean they need to bring up Polanco again or move him to AAA as well.
  14. Jeremy, If for instance the Twins do go over their spending pool amount (without trades) Is there a penalty for not being able to sign any players the next year? I thought I read that this year the Yankees, Red Sox and Angels were non-players in the international signings because they went so far over last year and they seem to do that every other year. True or did I misinterpet?
  15. I completely agree. The Twins should have had him in AAA a month + ago to prepare to face a slightly higher caliber of pitchers before jumping directly to the big club. I think they should have done the same with Buxton. Pitchers in AA vs Pitchers in MLB is a big difference. Everyone of those guys you listed had at least a handful of AAA games. The Twins don't do that because they are concerned about something pointless going on with a fringe prospect in AAA instead of moving their ELITE prospect up for a stint before they come up. So my thought it they might struggle right off the bat, but will catch on soon after hopefully. The degree of the struggle could be tempered by managing their "career path" better.
  16. I don't think Terry Ryan is savvy enough to use those complicated stats like OPS and games played.
  17. Is it just me or does everyone else cringe when listening/reading Terry Ryan quotes. Totally contradicts himself and is straight up afraid of bringing guys up that will be or are already better than the current players. He wants the callups to be Major League players before they are major league players and that can't happen unless they get some time in the big leagues. "You never know if a guy is ready until you get him here," Ryan said. Yet he claims Sano isn't ready, how does he know, he doesn't have him here yet. Sorry I'm done with my rant. . .
  18. Any trade for a Lucroy type will take a lot of "pixie dust" But if they do make trades it should be for guys with some years still left on their contract.
  19. I think what this unexpected winning may do is force the Twins to decide which prospects are really and realistically a part of the future. (if they want to make some sort of deadline trade). Is Arcia really a part of the future now what about Pinto. Those two are guys who have played for the big club and have had successes and failures yet are still back in AAA. Other players like them as well could be dangled if they want to improve this years team without hindering future teams.
  20. Watch his swing and look at his stature. He reminds me of a young Shawn Green.
  21. When he is healthy he is still one of the best shortstops in baseball. I'm sure the Rockies would point that out in trade negotiations. 5/$100M would be ok for the next 2-3 years. But $20m for his 34 and 35 years of age would be a killer and would most likely be right in the time the Twins will be solid contenders would like to spend some money.
  22. I remember that double and if I recall it was the one where Stewart seemed to think the wall was going to there about two steps sooner than it was and the ball dropped in as he was preparing to run into a wall that wasn't quite there yet. Damn Yankees . . .
  23. I would straight up swap him for Duensing today. I know that leaves Thompson as the only lefty out of the pen but I would rather have Meyer in there getting major league reps. Let him finish the season in the pen and give him a spot start if needed and then one more shot next year to start. If that doesn't work, you got a hard throwing bullpen arm.
  24. a 3-4 starter? I know he isn't a big strikeout guy but I think he deserves a little more credit than that. I would say he is a very solid 3 and a borderline #2 starter. On this team he is definitely a 2.
