Article: Official Twins Daily Day 3 Draft Thread
Loosey replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I was watching the Video of Kerby Camacho (great name baseball name BTW!) and really liked his left handed swing. His RH swing looked a little slow. Do teams ever have players quit switch hitting and go to one side or the other permanently? Not that I am a scout nor do I claim to be able to differentiate the difference between a 1st round talent and a 30th round talent from a video, but he seems have a quick throwing motion while catching and a silky smooth left handed swing. I like it. -
Article: What's The Best Plan For Tyler Jay?
Loosey replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Outside of having to get him on the 40 man roster I have no issue with starting him out at FM as a reliever and see how he does in 4-5 appearances. If he is good move him to Chattanooga. If he can take care of AA hitters pretty easily then if a time comes in August or September and the Twins are still in contention and need a lefty reliever, give him a taste of the Majors. Then next spring stretch him out in Spring Training and start out at Fort Myers or Chattanooga depending on well he does in the spring. Give him 2 years to figure out starting and hopefully have him in bigs starting in late 2017 or 2018. -

The draft is a crapshoot. And outside of a few guys that most likely won't fall to the Twins at 6 I am not in love with any players. I am in the minority here, but I say go big and take the risk and pick Aiken at 6. If he fizzles out or doesn't live up to the previous years hype, oh well, he is just like the other 75% of first round picks that don't live up to expectations. I think the Twins are in a position with their farm system to be able to take a chance now on a guy like him without having to worry about losing their only blue chipper.

I found video from the game . . . . Unfortunately the cameraman must have left before the 4th inning because Buxton's inside the park home run is not in the video. His double is on it though. http://www.wdef.com/content/sports/localsports/story/Lookouts-and-Biloxi-Combine-For-29-Hits-as/L10QWwi8Qk6BFnuLK1hpvA.cspx

Any luck on that Buxton Inside the Parker yet? I've searched the web and went to the Chatanooga ABC news affiliate site and only found a story with no video. Maybe they will add video to the story soon: http://www.newschannel9.com/sports/features/headlines/stories/lookouts-lose-extra-inning-2224.shtml

I had read a few places recently Funkhauser is a top 5 pick. I watched some video of him and he seems like a guy who would fit perfectly into what the Twins are trying to build. And he projects as a #2 starter supposedly. He throws hard 92-95 has near perfect mechanics and has some pretty nasty secondary pitches, especially his slider which doesn't appear to break until it is about 5 feet from the plate. I know the Twins are probably going to take best available, but why not keep bringing in young arms with upside. If they happen to get into a very good problem and have too many great young pitchers and not enough rotation spots, you can trade them pieces you need.

I consider myself a big Twins fan, and have been even during the past few down years. That being said I found it difficult to watch them the prior four years. When I did watch I just assumed they were going to lose. Now however I can't wait to watch games every night and actually go in with an assumption they are going to win. I can only imagine the players themselves having similar thoughts. After losing regularly you get a losing mentality, however the same can be said for winning. Lets hope they keep rolling along all summer.

I think Gonsalves is going to have good chance to a be very good Major League pitcher. He sits around 91 MPH with his fastball now. If he can get that up 1 or 2 MPH (possible given he is still developing and getting stronger) his fastball would be considered a "Plus" pitch. His secondary pitches also seem to be pretty nasty from what I have read and add in his game acumen and he could be something special. Time will tell though.

I find it funny that many are prepared to trade Plouffe, a proven MLB player, for an unproven prospect or two and replace his proven abilities with another prospect who has not played even 1 MLB game yet. I think we need to settle down and make sure Sano can handle ML pitching as well as play 3rd base before we unload Ploufee. Personally, I would prefer to keep Plouffe. He is a top 10 3rd baseman. Sano may end up being 40 HR guy, but he may not be a 3rd baseman.

Article: Twins Daily Top 10 Twins Prospects Update
Loosey replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Regarding Buxton's last 10 games: It seems like he is striking out less and walking a decent amount during this mini slump he is in. Any reports on if he is making solid contact but hitting it right at people or is it weak contact and popouts, etc.?- 21 replies

Article: It's Time For Aaron Hicks
Loosey replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I personally think Hicks is ready to be promoted. However, both the Twins and fans need to temper expectations to a degree. He shouldn't be expected to put up his AAA stats in the Majors. If you look at his trend in his career in the minors he usually gets moved up when he excels at a level then seemingly struggles a bit before adjusting and playing better. That said this is by far his best season to date and he is playing at the highest level he has played outside of the 2 short stints with the Twins. Perhaps he has "figured it out". Either way, if he can come up here hit .270/.330/.400 i would say that is a great success and something to build on as well as an improvement over what is currently in CF for the Twins. If he comes up and hit a .200/.250/.300 or something with regular playing time it may be time to move on, but give him enough time to sink or swim. -
Article: Time To Take Twins Seriously?
Loosey replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The one thing I want to continue to watch is both the bullpen and the use of it. During that 1-6 stretch to start the season the bullpen was atrocious. Now, they seem to pitching very well. I haven't looked at the peripherals, but is this an anomaly or are some of these guys actually pretty good. Boyer was hitting 96 MPH on the gun yesterday with some nasty movement. If the starting pitchers can continue to pitch decently like they have and get into the 6th and 7th inning it makes it a lot easier on the pen. I think they are big key, and if they do come back to earth there are a few good arms most of us would love to see up here soon.- 41 replies

Article: How Trevor Plouffe Became A Run Producer
Loosey replied to Parker Hageman's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'm of the belief if you are good enough to play they will find a spot for you. If Plouffe continues to improve and be a very solid 3rd baseman and hitter, he will stick. Sano hasn't proven anything other than he can demolish high A pitching and can hit homeruns in AA but so far this year has not done much else (he broke out a bit last night though). After 4 or 5 years of having very little talent, it will be a good thing for the Twins to finally have multiple good players at the same positions. -
Article: What's A Realistic Timeline For Byron Buxton?
Loosey replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Which is the reason I preferred Dougie Baseball over Molitor as the Twins manager. I believe with a young team you need to continue teaching and improving your players. Not that Molitor has done poorly, (he has actually gotten them to overachieve through 25 games) but long-term I think Mientkiewicz would be a very good manager of young talent. Again, I have no complaints on Molitor thus far and he is a good teacher of the game as well. Just my personal opinion. -
The fact that Buxton is walking more is telling me he is beginning to understand the curveball which was killing him in the first few weeks. I haven't seen much of him live other than some highlights, but I would conclude that instead of swinging and missing curveballs out of the zone and striking out, he is now laying off them and taking walks. And the fact he is hitting the ball hard gives me hope, and is a telling sign he can adjust and learn.

One leg issue 4 years ago and a torn meniscus 10 years ago isn't exactly a history of leg issues. And yeah he hasn't shown an ability to play in the outfield, however, he hasn't exactly had an opportunity either. He has played 1 game in 2011 in RF. Also I agree with leaving Santana at SS, but Escobar can play 3rd and Plouffe could try 1st. If it doesn't work you can always go back to status quo. In that scenario I don't think you make your defense worse unless Mauer is worse than Arcia in LF (unlikely) and Plouffe can't field on the other side of the diamond. In this scenario you can move Vargas in at 1st on occasion and switch between him and Arcia at DH as well and Hunter in RF swapping with Arcia. Just saying I think it would be worth a try.

Not sure if it has been mentioned here or not, but when this site first started 3 or 4 yeas ago it was about the time Mauer had Bilateral leg weakness or whatever it was called. One of the options that got brought up and then shot down by many was moving Mauer to one of the corner outfield spots. The argument against it was he is paid $23 million because he is the best catcher in the game and he loses his value if you play him in the outfield since he doesn't hit for power like you would want a corner outfielder to. Well, Mauer is now playing 1st base a more traditional power hitting spot and he still doesn't hit for power, so why not move him to the outfield? One comparison made a few years ago was his athletic ability was that of a Matt Holliday in the outfield. Moving Mauer out there opens up some options: Perhaps Plouffe can play 1st and Escobar 3rd? Maybe Vargas can play some 1st and Arcia more DH. This can even prepare the team for if/when Sano comes up at some point. It seems this shouldn't be that far out of the realm of possibilities.

Alex Meyer is having himself a nice little start today. 9K's through 5 with only 3 walks. The last walk was with the bases empty on 3-2 count and he was going for strikeout #10. That being said, I would like the strike to ball ratio to get up higher than 55:45 ratio.

I think Seth mentioned it in the article, they did do some ad hoc filming on their own. But it's nice they do now have more of an official videographer. That being said I would I don't think it needs to be used for advanced scouting of other teams tendencies since these players are all so young and still going through learning processes and may be either a completely different team next time they see them or players may change approaches, tendencies drastically during a season. However, using it on their own players is something that should have been done once digital video became affordable 10 years ago. In the Parker article the other day he mentioned how Brunansky is working with Arcia on dropping his hands, laying off high pitches, little things like that which have occurred during his time in the Majors. If video was available while he was in the minors (and if they had someone qualified enough to analyze it) maybe some difficulties guys have once they get up to the Majors would be a little less drastic since they will know already what some of their bad habits are and would be able to look at the film to verify and then adjust. But it's good the Twins are supporting this movement towards 21st century technology.

Article: For Young Hitters The Struggle Is Real
Loosey replied to Parker Hageman's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think he was just that much better than the pitchers in the minors and could get away with swinging at high pitches based purely on ability. Now, the pitchers are better and he needs to learn and adjust to how he is being pitched rather than just go up whacking away like he was able to his entire life prior to be a MLB player. -
Article: When Is It Time To Take Action?
Loosey replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Plain and simple the young guys need to come up. Have Hicks give up the switch hitting and let him play every day in the Majors for a month to see if he can get some consistency. Completely overhaul the pen, and then prepare the ascent of Sano and Buxton for mid-Summer treat for the fans.- 113 replies
