  1. The depth this team organization has is really pretty amazing considering where they were in 2011. They went from completely bare cupboards to being fully stocked in a very short period of time. And it is not just a handful of studs at the top of prospect lists, it is very good players at many positions spread throughout that will hopefully be contributors at the big league level someday. Much different from the past when they had very few top prospects and then no depth built up throughout. Great work Twins Organization.
  2. Clearly Kepler knows how to win, having 3 championships and all. Good thing we got him up here to show the rest of the guys what to do!
  3. I tried the catcher conversion question with Plouffe about a month ago. It was purely hypothetical, but I don't think a month in Arizona will turn someone into a ML catcher.
  4. I would hate to see Mientkiewicz bolt as well. I personally don't see Molitor as a guy who would want to manage long-term. Even if the Twins have success (pure speculation here) I don't envision Molitor as the type of guy to be a 5 year manager. I can see him doing this 3 years or so and then going to relax somewhere while helping out in Spring Training to get his baseball fix. Again this is just my opinion.
  5. So when the top prospects in baseball rankings come out this winter, where do we expect to see Kepler on that list? He has to be close to becoming a top 10 prospect in all of baseball, right?
  6. He also has been taking a lot more walks lately, which after having 1 through the first month of the season is a good sign in my opinion.
  7. I like it. . . . ALOT. It makes winning a division much more important now too. If we are having fun watching the Twins try to get into that 2nd Wildcard spot, imagine how much fun the Astros and Ranger's fans are having watching them fight between a 1 game wild card game birth and winning the division to secure at least a 5 game playoff series.
  8. Are you ever scared when you go there that it will say "Yes."? I was and I was pretty certain he is alive. The site confirmed. He is alive.
  9. I have similar feelings. As few hits as he has been getting he looks more confident at the plate. I can see him hitting a huge clutch home run (over the fence or Inside the park) in the coming weeks and he will just build on that.
  10. I think you keep all 4-5 outfield prospects through next year. Worst case scenario is one of more of them fails and their value plummets to a point where you can't get anything for them. Best case scenario is all of them turn into starter caliber OF's and their value increases and the Twins can then trade the worst good outfielder for help. At this point I don't think they will get the help you need elsewhere for either Rosario, Hicks or Kepler. Buxton is the only one who would get you a good haul, but he isn't going anywhere. My thoughts are wait until next offseason.
  11. Thanks a lot Parker, Now I have Tik Tok in my head. But I should have known there was a Ke$ha reference on the horizon today since I woke up this morning feeling like P-Diddy.
  12. As stale as the Twins have been the last 4 years they really have an exciting future core coming up. If If most of these guys reach their potential we could be in for a fun next 5-10 years. Buxton, Hicks, Rosario, Kepler, Sano, May, Berrios, Duffey. I can't remember having young excitement like this before. Even in the early 2000's, those guys were good, but there was nowhere near the level of expectations this group has.
  13. And just think how happy we would all be if those 2 games in NY didn't end up the way they did. The Twins easily could have taken 2 of 3 from NYY but whatever witchcraft the Yankees have on the Twins came into effect that series. If they even win one of those games they would be 5-2 on this road trip and a half game out of WC. But even give the fact we are talking about the playoffs and saying things lilke "if we had just won that one game" on August 24th is exciting after the previous 4 years.
  14. It would be nice for the Twins to have an unheralded prospect come in and exceed expectations by a wide margin (Dozier is one, Johan Santana is another). I know there have been players who have come in and contributed but it would be nice to get another All-Star level guy develop above where their "ceiling".
  15. If the Twins wish to really compete, they need to consider any other deal that has failed as a sunk cost and not really take it into consideration when trying to extend someone of Sano's caliber. I'm positive there is a way where both the Twins and Sano can both win in a long-term deal. I don't know what the numbers would look like, but Overpaying in the early and Arb years and getting a discounted price in first year or two of Free Agency seems to satisfy A lot. Sano gets financial guarantees of somewhere in the $75-$100M range by the time he is 30 and the Twins lock him up for two years at a discount. When all said and done if correctly done Sano will make close to what he would have made by his career's end doing it this way due to having Arb Years bought out and giving discounts on FA years 1 and 2. Possibly make a little bit less, but the Twins are the ones taking the most risk in this scenario.
  16. THIS! The fact that a bunch of "bloggers" who watch baseball as fans had the foresight to see what would most likely happen by shortening up the Bullpen by playing a bullpen game on Friday, while management either: A) Didn't see that (even with starters struggling) Did see it but was willing to risk it (terrible idea) C) Doesn't think it was that big of a deal (shows teams inability to adapt) This shows this team is going to be very disappointing to watch in the coming years if there isn't a very big change at the top. Terry Ryan doesn't know how to adapt and react on the fly. He had opportunities all year long to address what was a pretty well known fact was the teams biggest weakness. Terry Ryan needs to be held accountable for the mismanagement of the roster this season. This team isn't great, but the American League as a whole is down this year and they had a chance to be a playoff team by simply making wise decisions at times of need. However they sat on their hands or made moves too late or made the wrong moves entirely and effectively blew what was once a promising season.
  17. I think the team really has to give Kepler a taste of the Majors this season. Buxton should be up as soon as possible to continue his development. My opinion on the 4 outfielders the Twins should be carrying next year would be Buxton, Hicks, Rosario and Kepler if he proves the real deal. Kepler can play 1st as well so that spells Mauer, which is good. If Plouffe is traded Sano gets majority of 3B reps and a position opens up for a "thumper" DH in Arcia or whichever non-fielding hitter performs the best.
  18. The Twins could have a very nice young core of starting pitchers should Berrios continue his ascension at the MLB level in 2015-2016. If he does, Berrios could become that true #1 starter the Twins have lacked since Johan. They have 2 borderline #2 guys in May and Gibson when they are both pitching to their potential. Then the rotation is rounded out by two solid veterans in Hughes and Santana. This offseason the Twins can actually go spend money on other areas of need instead of starting pitchers like they have the last two offseason. Perhaps another middle of the order bat??
  19. Perhaps it was pointed out on here already, I didn't read all 5 pages worth of comments. But if Buxton is recalled after 10 days but before 20 days does that not count as an option and give back another option year (hopefully not needed) Also, that pretty much makes him eligible for a September Callup while reducing service time and avoiding an option year. If this is correct, it's the smartest move the FO has made all year.
  20. The way they managed May's "temporary" move to the bullpen is baffling. The organization should have had a plan for if/when a starter got hurt, or became ineffective. One way would have been to keep May "stretched out". But as you mentioned, he hasn't gone longer than an inning at a time except for once or twice. However, they keep on throwing out guys such as Boyer, Fien and Graham for multiple inning stretches. Now to confuse things even more, Molitor said he hope to make May his 8th inning setup guy. The way the team is playing right now, he might get 15 innings of relevant pitching the rest of the way. I hate to say it because I really did like Molitor as a manager, but I feel like he is doing things the same way Gardenhire did and is putting even less trust in his young pitchers. How many years do the Twins give him before they move on? I know it's only one year, but I would hate to see 4-5 years of "blah" baseball before they make a move again.
  21. When I think of pitching inside I don't think of plunking guys. Just make them move their feet every once in a while. The Jays were WAY to comfortable in the batters box. Pound inside off the plate, inside corner, etc. Then you can pitch away effectively because they can't just sit and wait for the meaty one over the middle.
  22. What else does Kepler have to do to get a AAA promotion? I think he clearly has met that development point, now it's time for refinement in AAA and a hopefully a September call up. Or does Terry Ryan have no idea who he is because he isn't a middling 38 year old reliever?
  23. Regarding rebuilding the Farm, how much say does Ryan have in drafting? I'm honestly asking because I have heard from different people. Some say he does nothing with the draft other than send in the pick, others say he gives some input.
  24. He didn't really say they are the reason the Twins aren't scoring runs did he?
  25. I've been on the Kepler bandwagon for while now. I'm glad he is finally blossoming into something that could be a legitimate MLB starter. What I really enjoy is the fact he has been getting groomed to be a first basemen. Assuming not trades, FA pickups etc. This could be a future Twins starting lineup" CF - Buxton RF - Hicks 2B - Dozier 3B/DH - Sano 3B/DH/1B - Plouffe LF - Rosario 1B/OF - Kepler C - NOT SUZUKI SS - Polanco/New addition Depending on what year the future is, Mauer may be the most expense bench player in baseball, but I like this young lineup.
