  1. Nice write up. Good for Brock.
  2. Apart from the potential need for more Latin American coaches (which sounds like a good idea), reading this article made me sad. If it's accurate, it's one thing to pimp some home runs, but its quite another to go up against the manager and the GM. Ouch.
  3. I actually love this about baseball. I'm with Lev on not wanting to coach away Sano/Arcia's edge (confidence is a good thing), but the chest beating garbage you see in other sports is just too much. I also draw a distinction between a little celebrating to entertain (see: end zone dance), vs. taunting (see: holding the ball back as you cross the end zone). But I can respect differing opinions here. Edit: Thought of another good example: Arica's overhead celebration of a hit (think someone said it was an RBI thing), vs. watching a home run. For some reason, I think the former is good stuff/within the boundaries.
  4. Tcarlic/Thyrlos. I didn't get to see anything other than the above video, which doesn't show enough for me to make a particular judgment, but I'm with diehard here. Showing up a pitcher by watching a homerun or gloating in any manner just isn't viewed as acceptable by the general standards of all the teams (this should be viewed completely apart from my own belief that personality is completely different than being a jerk). Again, I'm not accusing Sano of anything here, I don't have any info, but speaking generally, the league self policies here and I have no problem with the Twins, in their judgment, adjusting attitudes to the acceptable norms. I don't see how gloating makes you a better player either.
  5. Sure looked like he took a while to get out of the box after that one....then again, if I could hit one like that, I may get caught looking a little too long as well.
  6. Sooner or later they have to turn to their relievers, so maybe.
  7. Bottom of the 9th, Cleveland down 1 to nothing. Baker steps in he's 0 for... I don't know. Who cares?
  8. With a name like J.B. Shuck, he should be from Iowa, but alas, he is from Ohio.
  9. Vavra made a bad judgment call sending the runner based upon the circumstances; it happens. Hicks made a bad judgment call (bad break) coupled with mental mistakes (looking to the ball, oddly slowing down near the plate, on deck batter), and what appears to be some lazy play (not sliding). Bad judgment calls happen, mental mistakes happen, the lazy mistake (if it was one) is more troubling from a coaching perspective. All these things can be coached and fixed. I'd be more worried if I saw continuous repeats from Hicks, but he appears to have these mistakes and then correct them when coached. Should he have learned these things earlier, sure, but it's not like he's being Manny out there.

  11. You need children. The last time I didn't know what to do with myself was shortly before my wife said, "We're ready for kids". I wasn't aware of the unilateral nature of that decision, but now I have two and one on the way in August. Life is busy.
  12. Good thread folks. I suppose it's easy to be reactionary looking at recent ridiculous success stories of Chapman, etc., and infer that Gonzales will be an instant success, but with the cash the Twins have apart from their international cap limits, I just can't find a reason not to go big this year (this week in mad libs: we want a pitcher, not a __________). This would be a great interview question for folks with access after the fact (why didn't we go after so and so....assuming we'd get a real answer).
  13. Ruiz got a look; Collabello, not so much.
  14. The Orioles owe us one. We'll send them Drew and PJ for JJ.
  15. Understand your position here Lev, but I actually am more impressed with the play because he didn't field the ball clean.
  16. Can we get a site-wide moratorium on mentioning this trade. Not because I mind Puck's usage of it to make his point, merely because it ruins my day (by the way, the trade was a box of minor league balls and a set up not-to-be named magazines).
  17. Marthaler on Twins Daily? Is this some sort of Twinkie Town-TD super thread forming [rummages through closet for Velvet Revolver t-shirt]?
  18. Overall, the General Manager's job is to manage. He should be relying on his scouts and other various personnel to assist him make decisions. Ultimately, decision making is his job. He may scout players with his own eyes or not. Either way, he should be taking responsibility for the signing, good or bad. A good manager would take the blame for the bad and pass on the kudos to the scouts for the good (this is not a indictment against JR, but a generalization of how the role should be carried out). Frankly, if I recall correctly, the anger at the signing was two-fold: 1). Overpaid based upon the perceived market value of Kevin; and 2.) He headlined the class instead of being a piece of the puzzle. Frankly, I hated the signing for the above reasons and never expected him to be this good (whether it lasts or not). Ultimately, good call JR and staff. I was wrong (whether it lasts or not).
  19. I love stats. The more stats and analysis, the better. I just got into advanced stats two years ago, and I'm still learnin'. No matter how much I care for this analysis (and my particular belief that this helps understand the game), leaving advanced stats out of broadcasts is something that doesn't surprise me, nor should it be viewed as a knock on someone's intelligence. Quite simply, the general viewership isn't supporting this type of analysis. If the populous wanted BABIP and xFIP, they'd have it. Also, great stuff Parker.
  20. Slow clap for awesomeness.
  21. I don't see the approach the Twins have taken with Buxton as overly conservative at this point. Frankly, I want to see him tear up each level for a time prior to a promotion (I'm okay with a two levels a year). Sano's maximum value is at third, and he needed to work on his defense and swinging strike rate. He's shown he's better at both now; promote him. Buxton showed he mastered the level; promote him. Why is earning the promotion at each level and protecting the investment patently absurd?
  22. Maybe I'm getting baited in here, but what's your point? Is it your point that you generally think the Twins are too conservative, or is it your point that you believe Buxton is a Trout/Harper/Machado? They moved him up two levels last year, and it looks like the same for this year. Seems pretty bullish to me.
