  1. I agree that Plouffe and Arcia may be on the trading block, but definitely not Gibson, Duffy or Hicks. We need to improve our pitching staff and Gibson and Duffy were arguably the 2 best pitchers behind Santana. While I do agree they need to make room for guys like May and Berrios, I'd rather they try to deal Nolasco (even if the have to eat some salary) then part with Gibson or Duffy.
  2. Your "proof" doesn't amount to squat. In the 2013 offseason he was recovering from a concussion. He was trying to recover enough to do baseball activities so it make sense that he hadn't swung a bat yet in January of 2014. Just because he says that he spent a lot of time with a stretch guru doesn't mean that is all that he did all offseason. Mauer probably works out as much as most professional athletes.
  3. Could somebody fix the title of this thread, last night was Wednesday?
  4. If it was the desire for a left handed bat, then Santana was the only option left as Mauer, Rosario, Hicks, and Escobar started. Vargas PH for Suzuki and was replaced by Herrmann in the field.
  5. Back in the day when there were only 2 divisions per league, it made sense to only have the division winners make the post season. But when they expanded and went to 3 divisions per league, it required at least 1 WC team. It wouldn't have be right to have a team get a buy when the play series and not just games. But this took away the importance of winning the division as you only had to be 1 of the top 4 teams in the league (for the most part) to make the postseason. By adding the 2 WC and a 1 game playoff it brings back the importance of winning the division.
  6. This wouldn't be the case if Houston and Texas are also vying for the Division Title. If there is a 3 way tie between Houston, Texas and Minnesota and Houston and Texas are also tied for the Division Title, Minnesota would host the loser of the Houston/Texas game From the rulebook: 2. A second tiebreak game will be played between the loser of the game to determine the Division Champion and the team from the other division at the ballpark of the team in the other division to determine the Wild Card.
  7. Maybe the problem with Dozier is his offseason workout routine. I recall Morneau having the same issue and he changed is offseason workout return to include more cardio and less strength training.
  8. I don't see why he can't be in the park or even in the dugout. Even though he is ineligible to play and not on the roster, I don't think there is any rule preventing him from being in the dugout. I know DL players are often in the dugout.
  9. I had 2 problems with Gardy in my views. First, it seemed that young players never developed further once the reached the big club and many were never given the time to work through their troubles. 2nd, He treated a postseason game the same as a regular season game in regards to player management, especially in regards to the bullpen. He kept them bullpen in their defined roles instead of bring in the best reliever for the given situation regardless what inning it was.
  10. No, there would be 2 tiebreaker games. First Houston & Texas would play a game to determine the Division winner, then the loser would play the Twins to determine the 2nd Wild Card Spot
  11. Even in your scenario only 1 of 3 is true. The original quote was the Pelfrey would be gone, Nolasco released and Milone not picked up (Basically all 3 would become FA at the end of the season). We agree that only Pelfrey will be a FA at seasons end. I never said that Nolasco and Milone would be here opening day. While I would prefer that the Twins' work out a trade for Nolasco (even if they have to pay part of his salary), Milone is the more tradeable asset. Milone is a decent left handed pitcher that is under team control for 2 more years.
  12. Only 1 of these 3 is true. Pelfrey will be gone. The Twins' are NOT going to eat $25M and dump Nolasco. They are definitely going to offer Milone Arbitration, he may get traded in the offseason but they aren't going to give him away for nothing by letting him become a FA.
  13. That is incorrect! They are 0-6.
  14. Whoever gets called up now will probably be sent back down after the Milwaukee series as Hicks will come off the DL Monday.
  15. In addition to what Blake posted, the rule against players betting on baseball games has been in effect since the 1919 Black Sox scandel.
  16. This the 2nd outing in a row where Hughes was pulled after 8 innings while throwing 95 pitches. Both games the Twins had 5+ run leads, but Hughes wasn't given the opportunity to finish the game. I don't know if it was Hughes' decision or Molitor's, but it is disappointing to not see him get the chance to finish the game
  17. We don't know that Santana is/was a cheater. We do know that he was an idiot. All 4 major league players that got busted were either from the DR or played in the DR this winter. There was an article that came out about the time of Santana's suspension depicting the various "magic elixirs" that players take while down there to get/stay healthy and many times the players have no idea what is all in the elixir just that it is B12 based. My guess is that someone's variation of this years elixir contained the banned substance.
  18. The maximum time for Rehab assignments is 20 days for position players and 30 days for pitchers.
  19. Yes, once the season starts all contracts become guaranteed. Most are guaranteed to begin with, but those that aren't become so once the season starts.
  20. SSS He has pitched in 11 games. He's come in with runners on 4 times and let at least 1 runner score twice. Perkins has also let 50% of inherited runners (1 of 2) score, should we drop him too? Thompson has let 3 of 7 in.
  21. Boyer has pitched pretty well this season. He has only had 1 bad outing where he gave up 3 Runs. Regarding Stauffer, I don't understand why they didn't wait 1 day and play short tonight and DL Stauffer tomorrow when the activate Duensing. I am sure that Pressly will be sent back down tomorrow when Duensing gets activated.
  22. Hicks already tried this. Since he has been a switch hitter all his life, He can't see the pitches from the right side against righties.
  23. From what I see in the video Guthrie is stepping while in the process of throwing just like he would've on a normal pitch. It is a simultaneous action. He definitely is not throwing then stepping.
  24. While there are privately owned liquor stores, many are city owned and operated.
  25. If they plan on bring him up they better do it before he is down for more than 20 days so the don't waste his option. IIRC if a player is optioned for less than 20 days, the option is returned/retained.
