  1. Since the Twins' don't usually skip the #5 guy in the rotation to get the top guys more starts it doesn't really matter.
  2. With the off day between games 1 & 2, it would be easy to swap these 2 in the order once the season starts.
  3. According to Fangraphs May throws a Fastball, Slider, Curve and Change. It looks like his FB% stays pretty constant whether he starts or relieves. He pretty much abandoned the slider in the pen, but there was a slight increase in the curve and change.
  4. The only reason to NOT have Santana be the Opening Day starter is if you want him to start the Home Opener.
  5. Molitor and Antony may want Duffey to be in the Rotation and they may request that, but it is actually Ryan who makes the final decision, and since Duffey can be optioned, Nolasco will be in the rotation on Opening Day.
  6. Actually, LaRoche is not an employee of the White Sox. He is an independent contractor. Under his previous contract he was allowed to have his son in the clubhouse (for 3 years prior to coming to the White Sox). When he was looking to sign a new contract he wanted the same privileges as a condition on agreeing to work for them. The White Sox agreed to these privileges so he agreed to work for them for 2 years. After 1 year, the White Sox decide to restrict/revoke the very privileges that enticed LaRoche to sign with them in the first place. It doesn't matter if LaRoche's needs were excessive or not, the team agreed to them at the time he was signed. They should honor it for the length of his contract.
  7. Yes there is, there have been plenty of nominees that were never voted on. This is what the founders intended. The Senate has no obligation to vote on a nominee. It was designed this way to prevent the President from getting too kingly. The same goes for Ambassadors as well.
  8. There have been longer vacancies to the SC.
  9. Mitch McConnell has called Garland and informed him that the Senate will not act on this nomination.
  10. While this is technically true, there have be 4 or 5 that have said they were not interested when the White house inquired.
  11. I haven't been following too closely either, but I did see a list of 4 or 5 that reportedly said no thanks
  12. The first challenge is Obama has to appoint a nominee. Apparently this is more difficult than Obama imagined. So far everyone that he has asked if they were interested has turned him down. Also, since 1/3 of the Senate is up for re-election, I believe they are going to be in recess from around mid-summer until after the election. So if Obama doesn't get a nominee by June, the GOP can just claim that they didn't have time to get it on the schedule before the adjorn.
  13. I agree. The progression that DC is doing in going from Man of Steel to BvS is equivalent to Marvel going straight from Iron Man to Age of Ultron. BvS isn't just Batman vs. Superman, they are introducing 7 future Members of the Justice League (Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg, The Flash, ????). BvS is more for DC fans whereas Marvel laid there plan out for everyone to jump in.
  14. Actually the term Kasota gold comes from the Kasota Limestone that is used on the facade throughout the stadium. The limestone is found in southern MN and gets it's name from Kasota County where it has been quarried.
  15. So it would be similar to the NHL and NFL. In the NHL the roster limit is 23 with only 20 Active for games. In the NFL the roster limit is 53 with only 45 (or 48?) Active for games. There are 3 issues that I see: 1. SP must be ineligible for the healthy scratch list (only RP and position players) 2. Service time not accrued if scratch 3. Salary relief for scratched players.
  16. Puckett's WS wins has very little to do with why he got into the HOF. If that was the case, Jack Morris would've got in as well. Puckett was one of the best players of his time even without the WS wins.
  17. Here is a snippet I found from a 2010 hof article: The choice of which team logo appears on a player’s plaque is the Museum’s decision, though the wishes of an inductee are always considered. As the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum is a history museum, it is important that the logo be emblematic of where the player made his greatest impact. A player’s election to the Hall of Fame, however, is a career achievement. As such, every team for whom he played is listed on the plaque.
  18. The player doesn't have a choice on which "hat" he wears in the hall. That is decided by MLB/Cooperstown.
  19. In my opinion, Arcia's problems started in 2014 after hit hit that monstrous grand slam. Since that HR, he's been trying to hit a HR with every swing and he is swinging out of his shoes. Sano on the other hand, while he does swing hard, he is still in control of his body. While he may regress, I don't think it will be as drastic as Arcia's.
  20. A player cannot decline a tender. He is under team control and his only option is to play for the team that owns his rights. The only way he becomes a FA is if the team decides to not tender him.
  21. Hopefully they learn from their mistakes with Gomez and Hicks and not rush Buxton before he is ready.
  22. I don't think W/L is a non factor, I just it has become less of a factor compared to the perephial stats. They've come to realize that a pitcher doesn't have a complete control over W/L. They look more at ERA, SO, and IP now in addition to W/L.
  23. The only thing that Scherzer has going for him is Complete Games and Strikeouts. His 14-12 record with a 2.79 ERA are what knock him out of contention.
  24. Because there are several pitchers that performed much better than he did. Odds are it is Arrieta with a few votes going to Greinke and Kershaw.
  25. That's what Detroit thought this year as well when the let Scherzer, Porcello, and Smyly go.
