Here are my 2 issues with Anderson and they are both subjective. First he seems to do better with other teams cast-offs (reclamation projects) than with pitchers that come up through the system. MLB ready pitchers that come into the system seem to have 2-3 good seasons before they begin to falter. And Home grown pitchers never seem to improve once the get to the bigs and start working with Anderson directly. The 2nd issue is that the entire staff seems to have an epic collapse all at the same time for a 2-4 week stretch every season. This usually happens around June. I know that every pitcher has their off days when nothing works right, but when the entire pitching staff goes through the same funk for an extended period every year that has to be on the coach.
I agree. The conversation should've gone something like this: Gardy: I want Bartlett on the roster. FO: I understand you like the guy, but he doesn't look ready. We should keep him in the minors to see if is offense comes around.
Darnell will probably make an appearance tonight. Since Deduno hasn't tossed more than 63 pitches this year, he is probably limited to 75-80 max tonight which hopefully gets him through 5 innings.
While they probably released Bartlett to make room for Fuld, doing so would've required paying his salary. I believe that retirement eliminates our financial obligations.
The OP criteria was "starting the day" at or above .500, not number of games at or above .500 so the correct tally is 6. Day 1: Opening Day (0-0) Day 2: Home Opener (3-3) Day 3: Toronto Game 1 (6-6) Day 4: KC Game 1 (8-7) Day 5: KC Game 2 (8-8) Day 6: TB Game 1 (9-9)
It may be just me, but it appears that Mauer is standing further away from the plate this year than in the past. Maybe that is why he not only strikes out looking on pitches on the outside corner but he argues the call.
No, he has to go on waivers 3 days before day 10. The waiver process is 3 days. He would have to clear waivers (or be claimed) before the 10 day DFA period expires.
You are correct. I jumped the gun. I believe they have 10 days to do something with him after being DFA'd (7 days before they have to put him on waivers).
Considering he is on waivers, if the Twins claimed him Oakland wouldn't have much bargaining power so it wouldn't take much in a trade as Oakland's only option would be to pull him back. If they did this then they would have to keep him on the 25-man or send him through irrevocable waivers and the Twins could claim him again and get him for nothing. If he clears waivers they Oakland can outright him to AAA. Then they would have the option of keeping him and can take trade offers from any/all teams that would give them more leverage. If the Twins don't claim him on waivers, then they have no desire in acquiring him.
Yes, when they placed Willingham on the DL the recalled Tonkin so they are currently carrying 13 pitchers. With Bartlett and Arcia already on the DL, they added both Herrmann and Mastroianni to the 40-man and re-called them so they really don't have any ML ready position players left on the 40-man roster nor do they have room to added anybody else to the 40-man. So they had to add a 13th pitcher. At the time I was okay with it since the BP had to pitch a lot of innings in the 1st 9 games. But after the good starting pitching we got against KC, if they perform deep into games against Toronto, I would send down a pitcher and bring up Nunez.
While I agree that it is a small sample size, he has looked lost at the plate. He hasn't even be close to making contact with a pitch let alone get a hit. Also his defense in LF made Delmon Young look like an All-Star/Gold Glover in comparison.
Pitch count wise he could've, but between the offense, the pitching changes and the long review he was sitting for a long time so Gardy decided not to send him back out.
I'm not saying that I don't like this lineup, but I just don't like how they "rewarded" Suzuki for his 2-4, 3RBI opening day by moving him down to the 7 spot.
It doesn't really matter if Opening Day is a National Holiday unless they make it a Mandatory Holiday. Companies don't have to honor/acknowledge most Holidays anyway.
