    from the sounds of things, MN in general has less staff across the board. I wouldn't be surprised if most of the scouting department stayed and a whole bunch of new ones were added. AA, I'd note, did something like that in Toronto.

    Not to pick nits, but it was incredibly bold to sign Phil Hughes to an extension too... and there are similarities there.

    I like aggressive to a point, but let's remember that Bill Smith was aggressive as well. Aggressive and smart is the key there. AA isn't my first choice. He's not a bad one. I think I lean more towards Cherington personally.

    I see the reasoning, but then you could take those guys and flip them to a team with a MLB ready asset that won't be competing any time soon.. at the very least, it expands the options... I tend to agree on Sanchez, except that he fits a position of need and the Yanks can go out and get Ramos... I don't see us doing that.

    Yankees? Not much at the major league level, but 3 good options that just finished up their seasons in High A Tampa. They would all open in AA. Would a guy like Justus Sheffield and others make sense, especially if by chance they could snag Sanchez in the deal?

    I don't think the choices are choosing between going all in and just sitting back. The big issue to me at least is making intelligent and rational decisions and simply advocating change for change sake. Change for change is a bad thing. Change b/c we've properly identified the problem is not. I find most people/orgs aren't very good at problem solving personally. But if you don't understand the actual problem, the solution will almost always make things worse.

    He could carve out a career as a utility guy and potentially (I think) a defensive sub at some position. Not going to hit for power, but he makes good contact. I hope he makes the most of it.

    yeah, the only SP worth anything this season has been Erv. I have to think that improving the defense behind the starters would help at least to some extent, but truthfully, short of Dozier and the possibility that Buxton starts in AAA (which is a defensive downgrade), there won't be a lot of position changes this offseason.

    Twins will have an interesting decision to make with D-Rod given that he's Rule V eligible this offseason. It seems like he's been in the system forever, but the way he was pitching in CR, I think you want to see if he's finally figuring it out. I'd imagine he restarts in FTM. Only real problem at this point is that the years he spent hitting really hurts him as a prospect. He's 24 now.

    I believe you are correct. He was signed at 16, so he gets 5 years (speaking of silly rules, 16 year olds really should get more than that in terms of Rule V eligibility, they all have to be put on the 40 man at age 21. Only real question is that since he didn't play at all at age 16, how that works... I think it comes down to his signing date.

    Only real concern about Gonsalves from his promotion was the increase in walks, and even the bulk of that was in his first couple of starts. I suspect he'll be in AAA. There may be a thing or two he needs to learn yet in AA, but given how dominant he was in what was supposed to be a hard jump, I could see them sending him straight to Rochester for 2017. That also puts him in the Berrios position where he can push for an early 40 man add if he continues to be lights out.

    The trick to this is to have your doctor write you a note saying you are medically incapable of waiting in long lines. They give you a pass. You go up to the line and they write a time on the pass for whenever you would have arrived when you're in line... then you go do something else.

    It's also genetics. Cannot say I've ever had one, and not for a lack of trying... Oh, but according to my former employer, and field tested by my wife, pedialite is an excellent hangover cure/preventative measure.

    yep, and it is why the only ones added to the 40 man for Sept are ones that have to be added this offseason anyways.

    not sure total number of Ks is worthwhile here as I suspect the Jays offense has quite a bit more plate appearances.

    I'm not against trading him, but it had better be for an impressive haul. I think he has value in the rotation as he's basically pitching as a #2 this year. I'd like to see next years rotation of: Santana May Berrios Gibson Duffey Let's these guys work it out. Gonsalves will likely be forcing something at some point next year anyways.

    Except that no one here is actually saying that the real problem with the Twins is the coaches failing the team. I'm certain plenty would argue that coaching is part of the problem, but you and I both know this statement isn't true as it is written. Let's respond to arguments with counter arguments instead of sweeping generalizations that do nothing but inflame... and yes, this is a mod warning.

    The guy was drafted at 22 with plenty of things to work on. He was a 9th round pick. Those guys don't have a high rate of success, and no one that far down is anything close to a sure thing. Since then, he's been in 4 levels over 3 years (likely soon to be 5 levels), with one of those years I might add (last season) being pretty unimpressive in terms of performance. I'm not sure how that falls under mismanagement. He has not been held back. Simply pushing him up because, well we have a need, is a great way to mismanage a position. Hicks, Gomez, Arcia, and now Buxton are all really good examples of what happens when that is a motivating factor to moving a player. If there's any indication about what the Twins have done wrong, it's doing precisely what you're suggesting here. They've consistently done that to players and it has consistently failed. Garver has hardly been mismanaged. Back to the topic at hand, Garver got his promotion to AAA because he earned it, and he's likely to get that Sept call up because he earned it. Let him earn it. Don't certainly promote him simply because we have a gaping hole at C. We know how well that works. The Twins need to put him in the best possible chance to succeed.

    To be fair to Tonkin, he never really got a chance when he had options. That I'm not sure what to think about, but he was kind of the definition of the Chargois treatment the last few seasons getting only a few reps before being sent down. That said, up until recently, he had been pretty good. This may have more to do with the fact that he and all his other peers have been pretty overworked. I'm not sure he's the savior, but he isn't a bad option for 2017. He's been dominant in all stops at the minors. Let's see if he can figure out the majors... just don't slot him in as the 7th, 8th, or 9th inning guy.
