He will be on the 40 man next year, so I have to think he's competing for the 5th starter spot... will most likely be in Rochester.

No one is actively rooting for Gibson to fail. Most everyone is out of patience with Gibson. I was willing to give him 2017, but he's been bad this year. The real concern as I see it is that he came on strong in the second half in 2014 and 2015. I'm glad he's doing it again in 2017, as we need it now. The question is whether this Gibson is what we can expect going forward or if this is just another April fools joke on Twins fans. I'm not sure I'm comfortable going into 2018 with Gibson in the 4 spot. But like Brock said, I'll keep an open mind.

anyone know where 18 HRs sits in all of baseball? That would be interesting to see the company he's keeping there.

I doubt this as well. Major league contracts have really only exploded in the last 10-15 years or so too. Minor league facilities costs likely grow at a much more stable rate. If it was simply an ROI think, there would be a lot less minor leagues. Given how many examples we see if people failing at various levels, I don't think it's quite that simple as putting a guy on the 25 man and letting him struggle.

I would generally agree, but there's a time and place for both. If they are playing back, he should by all means drop the occasional bunt... but yeah... he's got power too... shouldn't waste it.

Mod note, quite a few jabs at people's expense have been hidden. If they continue in this thread, it will be followed by points. Please stick to the baseball conversation at hand as it has been rather enjoyable.

I'm not sure I'd call BABIP a truly luck driven stat. If anyone on this forum got out on the mound, we would post pretty high BABIP (for the pitches that stayed in the park at least) that would never normalize. I suspect the high number has something to do with Gonsalves needing to make some adjustments. That, too, is pretty normal given this his first taste of AAA. As for his future, I think most projectors have him as a mid rotation guy. That seems reasonable, but given his results, he could likely end up better... or worse. You never really know.

I think they are trying to keep his shorts start but to extend his time frame. It isn't as much as IP, but getting used to playing over the long haul. I wouldn't be surprised if he's horrible here on out, as he's well beyond his max, but I'm fine with that. They need to get him to a point where he can be able to handle an ML workload.

Article: A Hall Of Fame Case For Johan Santana
diehardtwinsfan replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I don't think Santana's post season appearances (all of 5 games at that) should have much bearing on whether or not Santana is in the hall. He was, without question, one of the best pitchers of his era. I'd add that he pitched in a live ball era, unlike Koufax, as well. That matters too as he faced much better offensive production. -
His defense isn't very good. That's the real problem.

That's reasonably fair, but don't forget he's a SS who (from what I understand) will stick there. He won't hit like Diaz, but he's still far more valuable if he pans out.

I think (hope) you're correct here on Rooker. He's struggled a bit when he hit Etown as well as Fort Myers, but once he figured it out, he started destroying the league. That's what he's been doing in FTM. SSS I know, but take a look at his July vs. August splits: July: .180/.305/.340 for a .645 OPS August: .328/.409/.672 for a 1.072 OPS. If he finishes at that pace, I have to think AA would be a possibility.

Well for one, he takes a walk. His BA is .259 as of this morning (and keep in mind he struggled at first). His OBP is .360. He has 15 walks and 2 more of the intentional kind. Simply put, he's done a decent job of laying off pitches out of the zone, but he's going to take a monster cut at ones he thinks he can hit. He's clearly started to figure out FSL pitching, so I'm curious where his BA will level off at, but I'd say that that he has a far better chance of being a major leaguer than ABW. It's also worth noting that the FSL is pretty tough on power hitters. The fact that he's hitting a home run in roughly 9% of his at bats is of itself fairly impressive.

This is likely very temporary. Slegers was designated as the 26th man for the double header, essentially allowing him a free start. I highly doubt the Twins added him to the 40 man to simply option him this late in the season, so I suspect he's back up here rather soon (less than 20 days). I woudlnt' be shocked, to be honest, if Gonsalves got added too, though that wouldn't be a 26 man move, that would be to replace Gibson.

Article: Looking Back: Recent Twins Drafts
diehardtwinsfan replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I still think their problem is more development than draft personally. I'd note that same span there has been an impressive class (2012) and one that is looking like it will be very impressive (2016)... so to that extent, it can average out a bit. I'm think I'd challenge you on the idea that it's unlikely that the total production will be above average...at least not yet. Both 2016 and 2017 are looking to be very impressive drafts when you look at the returns from the high ceiling guys the grabbed (specifically the HS players).- 27 replies

Article: Brian Dozier And The Summer Swoon

Even if goes on another August tear, I'd still consider flipping him for pitching this offseason if there's a market for his services... if not, I'd keep him. -
Article: Twins Trade Kintzler To Nationals
diehardtwinsfan replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
average to above is a pretty reasonable thing to see from young guys being broken in. Rarely does lights out happen right away. I'll take that, because it's not unreasonable to expect some of those guys to take that step forward. -
If he keeps pitching like this, there would certainly be a lot worse 1 year contract offers. I'd prefer going big personally and trying to get a guy like Darvish, but if they want a 1 year guy, he would be a pretty good option if he's figured out the cause of his early season issues.
