  1. Only thing I'm not liking about it in that preparing for next year, they didn't give someone a shot to close. To me, this was a perfect opportunity for a guy like Hildenberger.
  2. I have to wonder if the FO will give Park another shot. He's been pretty hot in Rochester of late and given Vargas's lack of production, that might not be an option to try out for the remainder of the season given that he's healthy.
  3. I'm confusing him with someone else then. I thought he was added in 2013 and then promptly sent down... maybe I'm thinking of Buxton. My point though is that you only get 3 options, adding someone early with no intent of putting them in the majors is a great way to force yourself into a bad situation
  4. Let's start with the lack of legit SPs on the FA market last year... No one is debating the RP side of it. That one miffed a lot of us, but SPs, it's kind of hard to get a legit one when no legit ones exist.
  5. Exactly, there is no reason to put Gordon on the 40 man now unless the expectation is that he will be in the majors next season. Since it's likely he will be in AAA, you leave him off the 40 man as there's no risk to rule V. This type of options management is how guys end up out of options while still developing (see Arcia for example). An early add means the org is expecting said rookie to be on an MLB roster.
  6. I think you're right at least this year, but they would have opened the pocket book last year and gotten very little to show for it. As Brock has noted, that was different for relief pitchers.
  7. This is a very fair take on the issue. They didn't go out and get pen help, and even if guys like Curtiss, Busenitz, and Hildenberger excel over the next two months, I do hope they go out and get some real RP/SP help this offseason. That would be inexcusable in my opinion given where the hitting core currently sits.
  8. I like Gordon, but I'm not quite sure he's ready just yet. Just my 2 cents, especially with Polanco struggling.
  9. They won't get lucky with Thrope this offseason if they leave him unprotected. He's a given in my mind.
  10. Santana probably won't be traded for no other reason than a lack of suitable replacements. Perhaps that won't be the case next year, but I don't think they walk into 2018 and say that, so if they trade him, the need to have someone that can be a strong performer on a 1 year contract (which when you think of it is very unlikely). I wouldn't be surprised if Dozier is moved this offseason. The question for me though is what is the deal with Polanco. Is this funk he's in due his grandmother's passing? If so, it's a lost season and he will be fine next year, or is it due to him being overmatched and not a good major leaguer? If so, there may be replacements on the way, but not in 2018.
  11. That's fair. I think they need at least one big SP FA move. I'm somewhat fine with the 5th spot being a rotating spot with May getting the first crack, but I don't want them walking into 2018 with Santana, Berrios, and Mejia only.
  12. I would say definitely yes. They will go into 2018 with 5 starters, and they will use 10. That depth will matter.
  13. I'm not sure the draft was much different (they employed a similar strategy in 2016), but no question the deadline was different. I don't think Ryan would have ever eaten 4M in Garcia to pick up better prospects, and there's a 50/50 chance that he would have leveraged Kintzler to an extension that we'd all regret later. JRM is likely with the org too.
  14. Generally, I'd say you're not supposed to say anything. Two or three years from now, you get to deride it saying you always thought it was bad In all seriousness, you cannot argue with the lotto ticket/bonus money. It's a very fair return for a guy who is an FA in two months.
  15. Isn't Darvish a FA this offseason? I'd rather just sign him. Gray at least has 2 years of control, but that's a high price to pay for that.
  16. I think you're being a bit hard on Littell personally, but this team needed more than competent relievers. Now that said, I do hope that there is some sort of plan to add a competent starter and a competent reliever this offseason. They will have some nice depth of starting pitching in Rochester next year, but it would not be wise to roll the dice with a number of question marks to start the season.
  17. Looking at the numbers, he keeps ball in the park, limits walks, and misses bats. I believe he has 2 more years till he's 40 man eligible, which would have him finishing in AA or AAA at that point if he moves fast. Good pick up.
  18. For some reason I thought Keprelarian (or whatever his name is) was a top 100 guy at some point too.
  19. Does Seth know something? http://twinsdaily.com/articles.html/_/minnesota-twins-news/minnesota-twins/twins-trade-kintzler-tofrom-r5918
  20. Latest on Kintzler. Have a hard time thinking he won't move. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/07/brandon-kintzler-trade-rumors-deadline-day.html
  21. If an established, above average, and cost controlled pitcher was the prize, I'd have no problems moving either Kep or Rosario. Finding OF help short term isn't that hard, even if you don't like Grossman. Plus there's some depth in the minors at those positions. But I would have to be bringing back a very good starting pitcher in that swap.
  22. ah, I'm looking at the wrong tyler Watson... Edit: yes, much more intriguing.
