  1. I'd rather they get Rasmus for CF, find an LF, and use Jordan as a 4th OF. If his 'breakout' is for real, he'll still get plenty of PT.
  2. I'd probably sign Rasmus to man CF for a season personally. I'd be fine with him in LF too, but I don't want to hand CF to Schaffer/Hicks. That said, he's the only FA on this list remotely worth interest. I think the best way to handle LF is to look at a trade. There's no sure thing in the pipeline for that position right now, so getting a productive player on a bad (expensive) contract for 2-4 years is what I think is the best option. I really think Kemp should be a target ,but I'm guessing he's out of their price range.
  3. Personally, I'm not ready for that. I'd rather they go out and get someone for 2 or 3 years as Harrison/ABW probably are going to need at least 2 years until they are ready. Rosario, FWIW, was outperformed by Hicks in AA. Keep that in mind. While he certainly lit things up in the AFL, I'd feel much more comfortable with him if he could put together a .800 OPS season in AA/AAA first.
  4. If they want the reclamation project, I'd say Masterson or Anderson. I don't see those guys being too thrilled about that, as they are competing with Millone and Pelfrey for that spot. I don't have a problem calling those two 'sunk costs', but that is not a reasonable thing to ask either. That said, with Meyer, Berrios, Darnell, and Martin knocking on the door, I think the Twins keep that spot open. Gibson and May should improve on their own, and I fully expect a bounceback for Nolasco, especially if his defense improves. Believe it or not, I think this team is a lot closer to competing than people think.
  5. I had a bone bruise in my foot that kept me from walking right for almost 2 weeks. Had one on my shin that took me out for a few days. It isn't unreasonable to lose some time after a bruise in certain situations, especially where a collision was involved. 2-5 games is hardly unreasonable when you get these.
  6. Not all bruises are created equal, especially when involving a collision. I've had a bone bruise on my foot that kept me from walking right for a couple of weeks and a nasty one on my shin that kept me off my feet for a few days. Missing between 2 and 5 games for a bad bruise isn't unreasonable.
  7. I think there's a lot of factors here. First off, can you be productive playing hurt? Nolasco was dealing with that elbow problem for how long before being sidelined? On the flip side, Radkee was effective on a torn labrum in his last season. Some people can do that, some cannot. I don't think it's fair to castigate a player if they cannot play through pain. Some can, some cannot. I tend to think that there's far more Mike Lamb's and Ricky Nolasco's out there than Brad Radkees. That's just the nature of things. Second, as others pointed out, guys struggling to make the roster are going to play through it. Coaches are known to retaliate as well, which I think is the bigger cultural issue here. Of the things that need to be done, I really think these decisions need to be made by a doctor who is in some sort of way shielded from the team. That's probably easier said than done.
  8. If the Twins think he's peaked, then they should be trading him. Another year of solid production like this season would make him immensely valuable in the trade market, but if the Twins think he's peaked, I'd get what I could get b/c even now he'd probably fetch a pretty decent prospect, particularly if the Twins were targeting a LF prospect, which tend to be more plentiful. That said, from what I understand, Santana's defense still needs quite a bit of work, and while he hit quite well, I think the guy more likely to have had a fluke season at this point is Santana, not Escobar. To be clear I think Santana has the higher ceiling and is the long term answer, but as of right now, I'm somewhat convinced that the best course of action might be to put Santana in AAA to start the year. Let him work on his defense, and if he continues to play well, they can trade Escobar after 2015 or at the deadline.
  9. yeah, Santana in AAA. Vargas should be the DH... oops on my part. Probably drop another RP
  10. This... I cannot like it enough. Molitor was one of my top candidates (though I think I wanted Maddon the most). He's got an incredible baseball IQ, which should make in game managerial decisions a bit less frustrating to watch. He's also open to the sabre crowd too, which is also good. In the end, I don't think this is a bad choice, whether inside or outside the org... The real question comes down to his coaching. Who to keep: Cuellar, Bruno, Steinbach (assuming he's not gone). The rest not so much. And I'd like to see them go outside the org for a lot of these (though that said, I wouldn't mind Doug M up working on things like fundamentals of defense)...
  11. I think we are getting closer to the how and when though. The minor leagues are brimming with talent that's starting to transition to the show. There's an obvious need for an LF, which could be had for next to nothing other than taking on a bad contract. I'm not sure I'd go get a starter (unless the Twins went all in on Scherzer), but I don't see help in the LF pipeline at all, and given the atrocious nature of our defense last season, this could be easily remedied.
  12. I think it's time to try the reverse jinx against him... every time I've said something remotely negative in the past, he's turned around and proved me wrong in spectacular fashion... Therefore.... Buxton will never make the majors.
  13. I'm getting a bit more concerned about Buxton just in general. Even when healthy he hasn't exactly produced this year. It would be nice to see him hit the ground running next season like he did last year, but this season has been completely lost. He's a pretty key piece in the rebuild, as there really isn't a whole lot to replace him with (unless Hicks can re-establish himself or Rosario's AFL surge is for real). I'm a bit less worried about Sano, but I'd like to see him hit the ground running next season. Between Walker and Sano, our AA team should have some pretty nice power.
  14. I didn't realize I was so angry That said, well written piece (even if I don't agree with it all).
  15. Sign me up on this one. If they can work it out, I'd love to see him in MN. He's my first choice.
  16. well written. Honestly, I'd be fine with any of those guys. Bit surprised that Gylnn has dropped out of contention.
  17. I won't argue that. There are a few other relievers putting up pretty gaudy numbers in the minors that I didn't mention as well. Bottom line is that in the next few seasons, the pen is going to be downright nasty. Hopefully, May, Meyer, Berrios and Gibson can establish themselves as top half pitching.
  18. I think Guerra might make the 40 as a reliever this year. I could see Ortiz on the 40 as well given that there's some talent there. Beresford possibly as a utility guy. None of that is really set in stone as there isn't a guy there that I'd lose much sleep over losing.
  19. Add guys like Tonkin and Cederoth, and you have a pretty nasty pen.
  20. I think Pinto needs to start 50-70 games behind the plate and learn from Kurt a bit. I'd make sure he's getting regular time at DH or as a PH to keep his bat in the lineup. His problem isn't his ability to hit, it's his skills behind the plate. He won't get better at that not playing.
  21. Liked the article. I'd like to see Cuellar (who taught Johann his changeup), Bruno, and Molitor remain with the org in some capacity, maybe Steinbach too. Vavra and Anderson need to go.
  22. I'll be the naysayer here in that I think he needs to go to Rochester. I like Santana, and to be clear I think he's earned a spot, but his long term value is at SS and from what I understand, he's not ready there. Add to it that I think his numbers say he's going to be in for a rude awakening in 2015. I like the idea of him spending time in AAA working on his game at SS and letting Escobar swim as the starter in 2015. If they both work, you trade Escobar and let the high upside guy have the job. that being said, I want a real CF in the OF, even if on a one year contract.
  23. I get that Hicks might be a minor upgrade to Schaffer or something like that, but I think it suites his long term interests (and the team's) best if he is expected to start in AAA this season and earn a call up. Opportunities will arise, so this isn't a permanent thing, I just think he needs to earn it. Given how the league average OPS has dropped, I'd be OK shifting him to the corner at some point (especially given the poor OF defense) if he can keep that OPS around .750. That makes him a pretty solid player at that point, but I think the Twins should be done handing him an opportunity... Make him earn it.
  24. I still think Rosario has more value in CF or 2B than in LF, in my opinion. I agree there's room if he steps up, but given that he hasn't hit well yet in AA, I don't see him spending any time in the majors until mid-summer at the earliest.
  25. I think he gets a long term deal this offseason. He's got 4 more years of team control, so I'd expect a 5 or 6 year deal. I think he's traded if Polanco or Rosario force the issue.
