  1. At the end of the day, I'm expecting a trade this offseason. If Meyer progresses (which I expect), he's going to be ready with no place in the rotation next year. I'm assuming that May is going to be fine in the rotation and establish himself. Nolasco will have 2 more years, Santana 3, and Hughes 1. Gibson will be the likely candidate, but I think someone is traded.
  2. I really hope that Suzuki and Pinto split the load this year. Pinto has proven all he can at AAA and needs to work with ML pitching. I still think he can be a pretty good catcher and I don't want t see the Twins wasting options letting him destroy AAA pitching when they are going to need a 2nd C anyways. It probably wouldn't hurt to have him get a LF and 1B glove so that he can do some occasional fill in work and occasionally DH, but he really needs to be playing in Minnesota all year this year.
  3. Graham is a rule 5 guy, you WILL see him in MN this year if they decide to keep him as he has to stay on the roster all season long. That said, I think you're going to see quite a bit of turnover in the pen this season.
  4. did He has 1884 career ML innings in 10 seasons averaging 188 IP/season. That's the definition of a workhorse. Not very many guys will do that in their careers, including many of the names thrown about these boards. Also, the ERA should always be taken into context as pitchers typically struggle their first few years in the big leagues and do on occasion get hurt. Santana dealt with both. He's been below a 4.0 ERA 4 of the last 5 seasons and 5 of the last 7 seasons. Yes, he had a couple of clunkers in there, but they are pretty far in his past also.
  5. I think the change in mindset is that they want as many guys named Santana on the roster as possible... Waiting for them to give Johan another shot at a minor league deal.
  6. I was a bit higher on Gilmartin than the Twins were apparently. Good luck to him. Personally, I'd have kept him and not picked up another reliever, but who knows.
  7. yeah, I'm kind of curious about what happens to Millone. I have a bad feeling it means that May will not be in the rotation this spring, as I don't see Ryan being able to trade him for much. I don't like that at all.
  8. Here's to hoping an improved Trevor May will take care of most of this.
  9. I think it comes down to the fact that there's a public subsidy that people in the state paid regardless of fandom. In that aspect of things, I get where Levi is coming from. I don't have too much problems with the Pohlads using extra revenue to aggressively paying down debt, that's not bad for the long term of the business. Payroll won't win games. It can help. I'm a huge advocate of smart payroll moves.
  10. yeah, this could be a great year the Twins AA affiliate. I expect though that at some point, many of these guys are going to get bumped to AAA or the MLB team.
  11. Hu is another good candidate, but I think the big thing that Thorpe and Gonsalves have on Hu is that they are 2-3 years younger.
  12. If Walker can figure out his contact issues, he'll be the steal of that draft. He's not a bad pick for a break out, as he certainly improved over the course of the season. I think both Thorpe, Kepler, and Gonsalves could take massive steps forward this year as well.
  13. If they aren't going to go after an ace, I'm honestly 'fine' if it's full (I use that term loosely, I just don't see the point in signing a marginal guy to compete). I wouldn't mind the upgrade, but as far as I'm concerned, Nolasco, Gibson, Hughes, and May are all slotted there. I could see a make good deal for someone, but I really think Pelfrey, Millone, and Meyer compete for that fifth spot, and even if Meyer out pitches them, I suspect he starts in AAA. I also suspect that baring injury, Meyer is in the rotation at some point later this season. So in conclusion, other than a make good deal, or some sort of unexpected event where a guy gets handed to us, I don't think it happens.
  14. I would sign him. That said, I think the Twins would say no to that deal. Dozier will sign closer to 6/35 then he will 6/45. That deal you have there is probably the top of end of what Dozier will make right now if you go year to year, though I think your initial arb number is a bit high (expecting closer to 2-3M). I don't see the Twins doing this where they absorb the bulk of the risk.
  15. I'm guessing they would be asking more for Meyer or Berrios, to which I say no thanks. If they are open to acquiring some young, cheap, nearly ML ready arms like Darnel or Gilmartin, sign me up.
  16. Honestly, I think this is Nishi part 2. I could be wrong, but I am not losing sleep over this if they don't get him.
  17. I'm not ready to hand Rosario the LF job. He did well in 100 ABs at the AFL after doing poorly in the equivalent of a full season in AA. Hicks has been better in AA FWIW, and while that isn't a predictor of future performance, giving him the job out of ST is a recipe for disaster. If they are convinced that he's the LF of the future, fine, go get a 1 year stop gap and let Rosario develop in AA/AAA. He can get a cup of coffee for an occasional DL stint, but I don't want to be counting on him next season. As for me, I think he has more value as a CF or a 2B. I'd probably pursue Kemp and let Rosario force me into trading from strength to address a weakness. Maybe I'm wrong, but I tend to think that a LF return on a Rosario trade (if he played 2B or CF) would be better than the LF that Rosario would be.
  18. yeah, I think they are closer than people realize. They really need to do something about LF, and if they can get a high upside pitcher, that would help too. I also think Plouffe, Arcia, and Dozier will improve.
  19. I'd trade or non-tender Swarzak. Theilbar wasn't bad in his role and I'd likely keep him around.
  20. The givens, Gilmartin, and Wheeler. I wouldn't be surprised if O'Rourke made it, especially considering that I think Duensing is done with the org.
  21. I think Eddie's chance of making the team in 2015 spring is less than 10%. I do think we will likely see him in MN at some point next year if he can build off of his AFL success.
