    I'll say this, we were spoiled from Mauer. I think people forget just how big the drop off is for catching. I was really hoping Garver would be the guy to become the next big catcher, but he's been pretty bad in FTM this year. Not a fan of Stuart Turner, and Pinto, while he can hit, seems to be a liability behind the plate. I guess I'm a Swim fan now... I think this is one area that could really help the Twins if they could hit the lotto.... a good hitting good defensive catcher. Not many that have the ability make it.

    honestly, it depends on the prospect. A lot of them are high ceiling guys in the lower minors who are being eclipsed by some pretty decent guys at higher levels. Some are lower ceiling guys who have performed well. It really depends. As guys graduate, a lot of the 11-20 guys move into the 1-10 range.

    yeah, anyone can get hot for a couple weeks. Let's see if Buxton has mastered AA before we send him to AAA.

    Personally, I suspect Nolasco will stay in the rotation until Santana returns. Ricky might the guy booted in July..

    I'm not sure it's playing for 3rd place as much as it is doing what's in the org's best long term interest. Hicks being a major league contributor is best for the org long term. I won't argue that plan A for CF was not a good plan, but I do think that the org's best long term interests are far better served by letting Hicks spend a bit more time in AAA. If what he's doing is for real, I think this will probably be better for the Twins for this season too if he comes up a bit later. Given the mental issues that a lot of us think are in play here, letting him build confidence is a good idea in my opinion.

    I think we need to be a bit careful about determining what character flaws Hicks may or may not have. I have no doubt that there's a mental component here (there is for everyone), and I'll even go as far as saying it weighs a bit bigger with Hicks than it does for other players, but to say he's an air head, stubborn, has attitude issues, etc. goes a bit too far in my opinion (and I should that as a moderator, there's a policy on this too), so please let's try to keep this toping going without personal shots at Hicks. I get the point that this is a flawed BB team that's in contention. You're absolutely right, but as others have pointed out, this is still in SSS territory. Granted Hicks never had a stretch like this in the last two years in the majors, but he did have some nice spring training stretches. I also think you're right in that there's probably some sort of personality conflict between Him and Gardenhire, but we are talking about 20 games here. I think there's something to letting him get comfortable. I'd rather not bring him north a 3rd time so he can turn out to be no better than the guys he's replacing. Let's see if he can repeat it.

    It's kind of ironic this is being said in a Hicks thread. He got promoted straight out of AA and didn't exactly do well for 2 years. I'm fine letting him sit in the minors a bit longer. If he's truly figured it out, those numbers will continue. If it's a fluke, we'll know in a month.

    I noticed he was improving, but didn't realize he was putting up Sanoesque numbers doing it. That's encouraging. If so, that average will start picking up in short order..

    So here's the real question. People get promoted, someone gets demoted or released... So who gets the axe to make room for Gonsalves, Lee, etc.?

    Agreed Chief.. I do think you make sure Sano can hit MLB pitching first. Side note, where's Halsey?

    I can see the benefit of trading Plouffe or moving Sano. Honestly, it's going to come down to where there are openings when Sano is ready. Right now, Sano hasn't given much indication showing he's ready. He's south of the Mendoza line, though he's hitting home runs and drawing walks. I'm hoping that's just rust and the switch will flip here soon, but let's pretend for a second that Sano catches fire, gets sent to Rochester, and continues to rake there... Come 2016, do you put Sano in the OF knowing that Arcia, Buxton, Rosario, and quite possibly Hicks are all competing for time there, or do you trade someone (probably Plouffe)? Do you extend him with a trade in mind? Do you wait another year and slowly work Sano in? I think Plouffe would get a top 100 prospect, and possibly some others thrown in (assuming he hits well this season). I'd think long and hard about that. He's not a star, but you could pencil him in as a starter on a lot of teams, including quite a few playoff contenders.

    They are off to a decent start. I'm quite happy for that, as it's keeping me far more engaged on what they are doing as opposed to living in the minor league forums. That said, yeah, a bit too early. I thought this team had a reasonable shot at 80 wins this year, and I still think that, especially with reinforcements on the way.

    The big thing I like is that the offense is picking up. I'd like to see some power, but hopefully that will come. We are seeing good pitching from several guys as well. That said, I really don't know what the org is going to do with Nolsaco. He was pretty bad (minus a month or so at the end of last season) last year and this. He's got some success in the majors, but at some point, he's going to have to be released as I don't see anyone trading for him. That very well may wait until Santana is ready, but I have to think that's in the cards. He's still on payroll for 2 more years after that. That's way too many to keep doing this, and with Hughes and Santana locked up long term, and promising output from Gibson and May, I have to think that last spot will eventually make it to one of Meyer, Wheeler, Rogers, or Berrios. Heck, even Duffey will be in play shortly I suspect. I do agree that it's a bit too early to take them seriously. They were over .500 for a bit the last two seasons, but this does seem to be a better team, and one real positive is that reinforcements aren't far behind.

    I think we can live with that. The real question is whether or not this will translate in this way in the majors. He's doing better than he did in FTM last season to start the year. That's encouraging. But yeah, he needs to be a bit more selective at pitches out of the zone. Would do him wonders.
