  1. Arcia holds minor league career splits of .312/.374/.553, which is good for a .927 OPS. He did all of it while being significantly younger than the league average. I get that he won't be a potential Griffey Jr. (let's face it, very few have that potential), but let's not pretend that there isn't some serious potential, especially in a league where a .750 OPS is above average. I don't have a problem trading him for the right piece, but if his value is as low as people suggest, then I'd keep him here.
  2. Arcia and Meyer for Norris? Seems really expensive.
  3. Houston had an agreement in place with Nix and when Aiken chose not to sign, they yanked offers off the table for him. They also, when they thought they could get Aiken for less, immediately went out and tired to sign Marshal and then yanked that offer too when Aiken didn't sign. It's a bit different. It's not unusual to have something come up in the medicals and see an offer reduced. All teams do that from time to time. What Houston did, however, was a bit more unethical.
  4. I think Nunez could carve out a nice career doing it. Decent stick and poor glove. Guess we need to go out and find a Jose Offerman type.
  5. To be fair, I'm not quite certain many people are good at identifying that type of talent late in the draft. It's pretty swing and miss at that point.
  6. That's a power bat thing in general. Most power hitters strike out a bit more than the norm. The good ones make up for it by being selective and knowing when not to swing.
  7. Those are roads made by alien construction crews... everyone knows that.
  8. speaking of big foot, I've been rewatching xfiles. Really good series. And back on baseball.. Season 6 episode 19 "The Unnatural" "All the greats were aliens"
  9. yeah, I was looking forward to him pulling a Hu in A+ this year. Guess it will have to wait a bit.
  10. yeah, I seem to remember some guy named Glen Perkins who had an attitude issue too... If that's Vargas' problem, he's out of luck b/c the Twins hold his rights for the time being.
  11. Palacios is a decent prospect I'd say at this point. He turns 19 in a few a days, but that still keeps him pretty young for the GCL. I believe he's an international FA, but not the high bonus type. He's a SS too.
  12. Parker, me thinks you are a victim of your own success here People are expecting a full fledged scouting report. That said, there was a time when I thought some of the MI prospects coming up in the system would be better than Dozier. I don't think so. Not quite sure how long his peak will be, but right now the Twins are looking pretty good for that extension and he's looking like an elite cornerstone player. I just wish he was a couple years younger at this point.
  13. Problem with Arcia is that he has always been a bit of a streaky hitter. His lack of plate discipline has also been an issue. At this point, his plate discipline is what it is. He was projected as a breakout hitter in MLB, and that could very well happen if he figures out what he was doing wrong. I think bringing him up over Santana makes a ton of sense, but given his lack of defense in the OF, he's probably a downgrade over Escobar/Nunez... think about that for a sec. Will has bat make up for that? Quite possibly. I think he's going to get called up if he can keep this up for another week or so, just to make sure he's not riding a fluke.
  14. The idea of swapping Arcia for a reliever (no matter how good said reliever is), makes me cringe. I realize he's not a premium defender, but you are talking about a potential premium bat in exchange for a guy who might pitch 60 or son innings in a season. For a guy like Will Smith, I'd be interested in dangling someone like Burdi to get him if they want upside, or possibly a bit of a lower ceiling position prospect.
  15. This is an internet message board. We all live in our mom's basements, shower once a month if that, and weigh 300 pounds at a minimum. You tell me.
  16. I like the idea of a Vogt/Suzuki (and eventually) Pinto platoon. My big issue here is his age. At 30, he's got a lot of mileage on those knees already. I'd be much more excited about it if he were a couple years younger. The real question is whether Oakland would want someone like Plouffe for him. I doubt it. He's going to cost prospects. Who that is determines whether or not you get him. As for Suzuki, the extension wasn't a bad option. It's not like we could have found better in free agency. If we were getting an awesome prospect for him, I think he'd have been traded last year.
  17. I doubt it's stamina. It isn't as though he's never been able to pitch through the 6th. I'm guessing a combination of nerves, not quite having his best stuff, tiring, and a few other things likely led to it. That happens to a lot of guys from time to time. I'm also guessing he works through it just fine. If not, worst case is that he spends a bit extra time in AAA. He's 21. Time is definitely on his side.
  18. yeah, last time they did something like that, they shipped off a kid named Lawton for if I remember right, Rick Reed. That killed the offense. I suspect Plouffe is an offseason deal, and I have no problems targeting a young ML ready catcher for him, as I think he's good enough to net it.
  19. Anyone else think that Miranda Waiters would be a better President than the crap coming out of DC these days?
  20. If there was a reason to trade an elite prospect, that would probably be it. I'd probably flip Plouffe for an above average catcher if I could this offseason, but I'd think long and hard if Beane offered him up for Berrios and a lesser prospect.
  21. I really liked that they went with HS upside type guys with these two. Good seasons in the GCL would go a long way to giving these guys some solid status. They are quite a bit younger than their league.
  22. I'd be more interested in long term help vs. short term help. The pen should be addressable cheaply, and I have no problems trading off a marginal prospect for a quasi decent reliever. Who I'd trade: Pelfrey - think his time might be up here. He will probably get something from a team that needs pitching. Won't likely net much, but if I could ship him off for a decent reliever with a year or two left on his contract, I would. Plouffe - a wildcard here. I'd probably wait closer to the deadline to see if Sano is still hitting, but if he is, I'd shop Plouffe for a long term catching fixture. If I cannot get it, I don't trade him. If I can, then Arcia gets called up to DH and Sano moves to 3rd.
  23. I think Tonkin just needs time. Problem is that this is the one thing he doesn't get. I don't understand why he cannot occupy a roster spot in favor of some of the lower ceiling guys who really aren't getting the job done either.
  24. Perhaps there should just be a general disclaimer for Dick and Bert.
