  1. He'd need to get younger and perhaps hit for power a bit more. He wouldn't be a bad utility player in the majors except for the real problem that the ML roster is occupied by Dozier, Escobar, Nunez, and Polanco up the middle and Plouffe/Sano at 3B.
  2. There's irony there given that the 2012 class was almost universally hated right after the draft. Now, it's looking like one of the best classes we've seen a while. Buxton, Berrios, Melotakis, Chargois, Walker, and Duffy could all be difference makers at their positions and there are plenty of talented guys still playing that could still potentially have an impact.
  3. I don't think Hughes is tradable right now. The more I think about that one, I am leaning towards simply letting him close for the time being. His velo is down, whether that's b/c there's something wrong or that he's just getting old, I don't know, but I'd put him in the pen for the remainder of the season to get some kids in the rotation. Nolasco might be tradable... probably won't get much, but it's a win if he's off the roster by the deadline. Plouffe is tradable. He wouldn't net much this offseason, so I'm not expecting much at the deadline, except that there are some needs at 3B right now that weren't there a two months ago. Might get a B prospect for him. Suzuki might be had for something, just b/c catching is a need, but given that he isn't hitting, I doubt it's for much. That might force bringing up Turner or Garver a bit earlier, but I'd probably be OK with that. Not sure either would be as good as Kurt is now, though both are probably better defenders. Perkins might get something if he comes back throwing well, but he's got 2 more years after this, so I wouldn't exactly hold my breath in terms of trade value.
  4. Polanco made the 40 man due to rule V rules. But yeah, he needs to play this year as he has to have a roster spot next year. Given that the season is for all intents and purposes over, I don't see why he's not getting more playing time. There's no reason why Molitor cannot find PT for four guys at 2nd, 3rd, and SS.
  5. Palacios was quite a bit better than Arrez last year (if memory serves me right). The fact that both are in A ball right now at that age is on its own pretty impressive. Palacios got off to a pretty good start, so hopefully he's just a mechanical tweak away from turning it around.
  6. I wouldn't trade Arcia (not yet at least), nor would I promote Buxton and Kepler at this point. Buxton is turning a corner and personally I'd like him to reinforce those better habits he's learning in AAA. Kepler isn't doing well there at all. Polanco is an odd situation. He should be playing every day, why he's not up here I'm not sure. As bad as the OF defense has been, I don't even understand why he cannot get the occasional OF start. He cannot possibly be worse than Sano out there, but yeah, if they aren't going to play him, demote him or trade him. The real problem with Polanco is that this is his last option year. They need to figure out if he can stick at the ML level.
  7. And then the converse, best memory of RB's life, or worst.
  8. Seriously Brian, how in the world do you think some of this up... absolutely hilarious.
  9. Harrison has always shown flashes of good things. He's doing that again right now... definitely enough that I wouldn't give up on him. What I would say though is that his BABIP could simply be that he's hitting the ball hard. Those hits might not be finding the gaps, or as Thrylos noted, they could be getting killed by the cold, wet weather in the mid-west. I wouldn't be too concerned just yet. The biggest thing with Harrison is that he needs to do this for a season. He's had good stretches for several years now, but he tends to slow down over the year.
  10. This. Buxton has failed twice now in the majors, and part of that has to do with a lack of at bats in the high minors and the fact that he's been taking horrible ones as well. I'm assuming the results mean his approach has improved, but I'd like him to reinforce those good behaviors for a while.
  11. Antony served as an interim GM when Ryan was out in 2014, and he wasn't very impressive then. I'll echo what other said, very little about his body of work says that he's the right guy for this job. Yes, I get that guys can learn a lot, but of the internal names floated, I have the least confidence in him. At the very least, Krivisky went outside the org and ran the reds for a few years. I'd take a guy like that who has seen other orgs over Anthony at this point. As for Molly, let's put to rest the 'no experience' meme. He's an HOF baseball player who has been in the game for longer than many of us have been alive. He was pretty good as a manager last year. I won't argue that he's made some mistakes this season, but I do think he deserves a chance to learn from them... now, one caveat to that. If he's refusing to play the kids and pulling a Gardy, then he's all but saying he isn't right for this team.
  12. I don't know, I'd be pretty happy with that Revoldt kid in round 2. I think it would behoove them to pick up another one later in the top 10, though neither of those would be ready to help any time soon. If we want help soon, those answers are Murphy, Garver, and Turner... like it or not.
  13. I think you need to rethink your expectations. If this was true, every coaching staff in the league would be unemployed. Talented prospects fail on every team.
  14. So with that in mind... the Twins Daily powerball fund. Proceeds go to buy the Twins.
  15. So... that means he's going 4/5 tonight with a couple of home runs.
  16. That's my bigger concern. Nothing I've seen concerning Anthony gives me the warm and fuzzies that he'd be a decent GM. I could be wrong. I hope I'm wrong, but I won't be happy if he's the guy.
  17. Yes, I'd agree that's dominating. I wasn't implying otherwise. I do think, however, that one week is too small a sample size and that 5 weeks (even if he continues at that pace) is not enough time. He struggles to hit ML curve balls, and that won't be fixed in 5 weeks, and his ML approach was nothing short of awful. He'll get some ML quality pitches in AAA from time to time, which is good, and I know MLB is really where he's going to learn it, but for now, I think he's best served by reinforcing the plate approach that made him a top prospect to begin with.
  18. Maestro is a warm body. He maybe starts once a week and is used as a defensive replacement/pinch runner. To be fair, that's all Rosario is worth at the moment. Eddie needs at bats, and it's far better for him and the Twins for him to get those at bats in AAA while Maestro effectively does the same job.
  19. I honestly hope that's where they go. They have a lot of younger talent in the high minors. Not sure I'd do it all at once, but I'd definitely start rotating them in. I'd give Ricky a few more starts to sink or swim and put him on the DFA list next if he sinks and trade him for a bucket of baseballs if he swims. I'd trade Plouffe for whatever we can get (not expecting much, but maybe we can get lucky and pry away a blocked player for a team in desperate need of a 3B), install Sano at 3rd, and play musical chairs with Rochester OFs until someone plays well enough to keep the LF and RF jobs. CF is going to be a mess at this point as Buxton needs time in AAA. May as well let Santana play there for now. I'd probably start rotating our 40 man RP prospects in and out of the pen at this point as well. I expect them to struggle since they're in AA, but at the least you can let them spend a few weeks up here, let them taste the majors, and send them back with a list of a few things they need to work on.
  20. This is really encouraging, though I think it's going to need more than 4 weeks. I'd rather not repeat the same mistakes we made with Hicks. Let him sit in AAA for a while. Let him flat out dominate. It's not as much about building confidence but giving him the ability to reinforce the good habits he's picking back up right now as well as working on some of the finer points of his game that he wasn't able to do at the ML level.
  21. I'm not really arguing with any of these, as they are very valid. I don't know if Hammer would have gotten much, but Perk certainly would have. My point was more in the context of now. As the kids get ready, by all means, you have to get younger and play them, and we are in a situation where getting younger does make sense to an extent, and getting younger and getting better aren't necessarily mutually exclusive. I would argue though that whether Ryan would publicly use the term rebuild or not, we were rebuilding.. that was obvious the moment Span and Revere were traded. My big issue is that we have a number of young starting pitchers who were likely to outperform Milone (who had value and could be traded) and while this would have been another bumpy year, it would have been able to get someone solidified. I also took issue that we didn't hedge our bets with Buxton. As well, we needed a lot of help in the pen, and while help is on the way, it won't be up right away, and adding a really good vet in the pen both helps now and should be of use down the road, especially when you consider the fact that there are 6 or 7 slots for pen use. I figured the record would be around the same this year, but that the kids would really take hold. Instead, we valued depth to the point that some of these kids aren't playing or playing out of position. Can't say I'm a fan of that.
