  1. I've never seen him play but Keith Law his him ranked 3rd overall and calls him "one of the best pure hitters in the minors". If that's true I'd trade Sano for him in a heartbeat, as much as I would hate to trade Sano.
  2. I was surpised by how low Stewart was but found this encouraging...
  3. Pretty vanilla overall (as most athlete chats are) but I liked this answer - Austin R. (Savage, MN) Where do you think your bat fits in the lineup in the current twins roster?? Byron Buxton (2:48 PM) Hopefully I'm more experienced and more disciplined at the plate to be a leadoff hitter. That's where I've hit most of my life. I feel confident there. Hopefully leadoff. I don't really care where he bats but I like that he cares.
  4. Gut feelings are obviously less reliable than statistics. That's why we have statistics. I do agree that Pinto will likely earn his time and will "steal" the job but these kinds of moves (assuming Suzuki really does get the job) is what makes it hard to be a Twins fan sometimes. He can't hit and all signs point to him not being a good defender (truthfully, I've seen him play probably less than 30 games in my life, tough to judge defense in that sss). At least Butera had a notable tool.
  5. I'd do 3-$40 for Santana but only if they trade KC or can go back in time and not sign Pelfrey. I really want Gibson/others to have a shot of winning a spot out of ST. But a good chane would exist that Santana would be our best starter. With that rotation and a little growth in the lineup (Arcia mashes, Plouffe is slightly above terrible, Willingham rebounds) the Twins could be pretty exciting this year.
  6. The mlb at bat app is pretty sweet for listening to games if you have a smartphone or tablet. You can choose whether you want the Twins announcers or the opponents announcers. That's always fun to hear another team. It's $15 per year but, in my opinion, well worth it.
  7. Sure sounds like he's going to be playing 2nd for the Yankees. It would make sense, their SS is 40 years old and you could slide Drew over if Jeter gets hurt.
  8. I voted for Tanaka. His K's were down last year but his career K numbers were awfully close to Darvish with fewer walks. I don't think he'll be Darvish (who might be the best pitcher in the AL) but I think there's a chance he's our ace for 5 years if we sign him. I don't think you can say that with any of the other guys. I just want a real ace pitcher here. We've had one true #1 in the last 20 years. Gross.
  9. Why does Buxton wear #7 in the minors? Not that it matters if he wears a different number in the majors than you did in the minors but it seems a foregone conclusion that Joe Mauer will be the last Twin to wear it for the big club.
  10. Wait, what exactly did Jack Morris do that is not reflected in his statistics?
  11. Not even particularly close. If you take game 7 away he's remembered somewhere in the Chuck Finley/Mark Langston/Jamie Moyer/Rick Sutcliffe group of pretty good pitchers. No one saved their rookie cards though.
  12. On such a stacked ballot (in my mind there are 11-14 HOFers on the ballot) it's sort of annoying when someone gives a vote to a no-doubt non-HOFer. But my biggest problem is Bonds/Clemens. Since the only reason to not vote for them is PED issues, they should both have the exact same votes every year. Anything else reeks of homerism (or potentially another -ism) or someone still hurt that Bonds was a big meanie to the press.
  13. After reading this thread this morning I ordered it for the first time. In previous years I'd considered it but kind of figured I could get most of the content elsewhere on TD or other Twins sites. This thread convinced me otherwise and now I can't wait for it to arrive. I agree with Wookiee, I don't get not advertising it. I mean, you're not selling wrapping paper here. You guys provide the best Twins content out there for zero dollars and zero cents. If you battle your tails off to create something this detailed and in depth and someone complains about it being promoted on TD I don't think that's your problem.
  14. I took the day off of work on opening day 2002 and watched him hit a leadoff HR. That was such a fun time to be a Twins fan, they came from such a dark stretch that having good baseball to watch was incredibly exciting. And that Jones HR really kicked off what might've been my favorite Twins season (non-87 & 91 category).
  15. You can't just call it ridiculous and the people that reference it "embarrassing" without being able to explain what it is and why you don't like it. So, what is WAR and why don't you like it? For instance, I don't like RBI or Batting Average with RISP as a stat. I know exactly what both of them are and exactly why I don't like them. RBI are a team stat and are mostly useless in terms of talent evaluation (rather a nod to opportunity). BAwRISP is not an innate skill and typically has too small of a sample size to be meaningful. See, I both understood and was able to communicate what I don't like about them. So now it's your turn! First, explain what WAR is and then explain what you don't like about it or what you find embarrassing or ridiculous. (And no, saying "well I can just SEE that Mike Trout is worse than Miguel Cabrera" doesn't count. Actual evidence please.)
  16. Man, it's not even Thanksgiving. Let's wait to freak out until there is something to react to?
  17. I know. Between this and global warming...I mean, what's the point? (kicks a rock)
  18. Reality check : scouting the stat line of the AFL is absolutely, positively pointless. Yes, I noticed you called out SSS but you still cited the stats as if they mean ANYTHING. Which they don't. At all.
  19. Hi. Welcome to the internet. Where most things don't add anything new to the discussion and people complain about everything. We hope you enjoy your stay.
  20. Who cares? Those are two really dumb ways to judge a hitter. His OPS is .914. You don't have to think that's dominant but that's dominant.
  21. I don't know if he should be promoted or not, but this is incorrect. As Jokin' said earlier in this thread.... ...if Sano qualified among the Eastern League statistical leaders, his SLG of .559 would lead the League. His OPS of .914 would be 3rd in the League. I don't know how that isn't dominating a league.
  22. I have no idea how to judge a hitting coach who is supposed to coach a bunch of really crappy hitters.
  23. Trying to determine what kind of person 20 year old Miguel Sano will be in the coming years based off of watching him play in a game or two and watching a couple of fuzzy youtube videos is pretty silly. I have no problem with sitting him but, as has been said several times in this thread, Harmon Killebrew did this ALL THE TIME. And he's widely considered one of the most likeable human beings to ever put on a uniform. I'm not saying there are racial undertones to certain responses here but I would like to see an identical response if Kepler ever pimps a HR or if Kohl Stewart goes all Big Z after striking out a guy to end an inning.
  24. Right, the rankings don't really mean much. I won't trust them until they're both several hundred AB's into the big leagues. But using the same exercise as Gleeman (comparing prospects at their current ranking) is slightly more useful if you look at them as individuals instead of as a duo.
